Hail!

A lot has happened this year. I've been working full on to get my green skin hoard done, I started last year and it's been all green all the time for a long time.

I've also completed a fish heads commission.

It seemed like a lot t the time but now the Greenies have me run down. And the fish heads are gone!

Last week I tried to sell my Space Wolves collection but to my surprise it did not sell.

Until this week I had hardly skimmed the new codex and now I think I am impressed.

I had trouble deciding if I wanted to try to sell my collection again after it didn't sell. And after looking through the new codex I think I will keep them a wile longer.

My motivation to sell was simply money. not the rules or anything like that . Just cash.

Now on to the good stuff.

I want to try to have the rest of my army painted and done in the next 6 weeks. Starting this Saturday.

this gives me Friday to start establishing a plan and to write a list of what I have left to do.

I don't think it's all that much left to do.

A few things I want to do are re organize my packs, make a list of my company and points costs for each pack. finish building a few models. paint a few models and take some pictures for my blog. And very lastly make a short (I hope) list of what new models I want to buy, even if I have to wait a while to buy them.

I am only shooting for 6 weeks. the reason is I still have a lot of other projects coming up this year.

And I expect to have less time to paint later this year. I have a lot of real life stuff to do later this year.  If I am to add anything else to my above list it would be to do a proppa battle report once my painting is done.

I plan to post my list of work on Saturday.

Thanks for looking!

I have been surfing your army. Quite nice and personal transformations.

Love it!

Thank you very much. I started this army before their 5th edition codex was out, a lot of the models built from my bitz box. Later I learned to cast resin bases and cast most of what this army is standing on. I have tried to make every model as unique as I was able.

Mostly that was done through posing the models but there are repeats. I have always had a hard time deciding on the grey I wanted to use and that has led to the bluish color they are. Really a dark grey with a hint of green would have been colors I would have liked but wasn't able to do that at the time.

My list.

10 droppods to rebuild, stick the "guts" into some and repaint. ( I was trying to do very weathered droppods but I have never liked how they turned out.)

6 Land speeders. finish painting and rebuild a few of them, mostly the crew.

8 wolf scouts rebuild and some paint.

7 plastic TDA which need everything from paint to assembly.

5 metal TDA need paint.

2 Long fang plasma cannons

1 Ragnar needs a base and more paint. Stopped after base coats.

1 Ulrik repaint.

1 TDA rune priest needs base and paint

1 Bjorn - metal model. assembly and paint needed.

reassemble arms and hands on some infantry models.

vehicle hatches for all 11 vehicles

reassemble 2 land raiders also hatches and more paint.

I think that covers it. not as much work as it sounds.

My next on topic post will have which ever unit I have chosen to work on and a few pictures.

Thanks for looking!

Well, quite the endeavor, isn't it. I guess I shouldn't be the one talking with more conversions up my rear than I can handle biggrin.png

Nevertheless, I will be checking in from time to time. Always nice to see another SW rising msn-wink.gif

I would say it's all a mater of prospective. If I was just at the beginning of this collected army then I would easily agree that it is quite the task. But so many years later I am very nearly done and , shamefully, I should have been done two or three years ago.

But I thank you for looking.

Today I just worked on the above list and will find a starting point on Saturday.

In most cases, for most projects, I start with what ever will be the most work first and then move outward to the models that will be at the same step. So on ans so on until I am done. this is a little different. It will fall into 4 batches of work. Droppods, rhino/vehicles, speeders and infantry models.

I think I see a plan coming together now.

This evening I am starting Lord Ragnar I have yet to find him a base. His pelt is black and his hair will be a blond. it's still early stages of paint for him.( I very nearly sat down to paint more Orks... )

I am now starting his skin tones.

Thanks for looking. More updates to come.

Day 1.

Working on Ragnar today.

http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-5yCABBsBrqQ/VBRgcZn8UVI/AAAAAAAAE58/1wqiYTpoEP4/s1600/292_0008.JPG

He had been base coated and given the Zenith highlight previously. The first three steps being base coat, highlight and then wash. the wash is a mix of blue and black which I made from the APJLess recipe.  (Found on Dakka Dakka or on his youtube channel.)

Ragnar, shown above, hay not had the wash yet. Which can be done later, I tend to do everything in certain steps when I am painting a lot of models at one time.

And so far he looks like..

this.

I took a few pictures but his skin color makes it challenging. Light skin tones wash out very easily.

I decided to go with blond haired Ragnar from second edition.  His surname coming from the Blackmaned wolf and not his hair.

I am working on a slight color transition on his sword. using yellow to lighten the color.  So far so good.

An update.

And later.

Day 2.

Not ye sure which models I wan to work on today.

As a sort of update I hadn't yet mentioned my work on Day 0.

While trying to plan out my work I spent a few hours looking over my grey hunters and adding a brass color to part of the motor housings on their chainswords and more or less adding the brass color where it was needed. Mostly that was a few shoulder guards and some other decorative "edging" .

I also started to work on my last two plasma cannon long fangs. I have to find heads for them still.

I think today I will try to find a base for Ragnar, heads for the long fangs and start to paint the land speeder crews. I have to keep my planed out work easy to accomplish. Any other "work" will just be a bonus.

I was very tempted to put all this up and get back to my Orks yesterday.  Space Marines are fairly boring to paint.

I will be very pleased when I can say I am officially done painting my army.

Pictures later

Thanks for reading.

Armour is looking nice, but the face does remind me of a mix between a Blood Angel and the Joker. A bit darker would be real good, because as such, the face ain't half bad.

It's hard for me to say for sure. I was having some trouble with the tip on my detail brush. I cleaned all my brushes this morning.

But for comparison.

I can always come back to Ragnar later.

Today so far I have managed to reassemble  two Terminators, paint the eyes of 4 other terminators and started painting the crews of 3 land speeders. I have decided not to count reassembling painted models as part of my list. the few of them that there are.

Thanks for reading.

I woke up this morning and realized I haven't been enjoying this project. So I am calling it quits again.  Painting Space Marines just isn't very exciting. There will be no more posts or updates regarding this collection until I actually get excited about it again.

I really enjoy painting. It's been strange forcing myself to complete a project. Normally I get very focused and can't put down my paint brush. I think a lot of it has to do with now playing very much anymore. I think I am very out of touch with 40K. Maybe I  will try again in 6 months. It only works when I want to paint something or other.

mmm some times i get the same feelings. Painting another things usually works for me.

currently i'm painting an infinity band and my former SW army.

It's a pity you quit your work, but if it doesn't fulfill you...

Yes, I agree. I was thinking that this would give me a brake from my beloved Green Skins.  If I force myself to paint, models don't turn out as well as they could/would if I just wanted to paint them.

Maybe I'll try again in a few months to a year.

Good luck and good working on whatever you choose.  If I could afford it, I'd have an Ork army too.  They are just so much fun looking!

Thank you. I've been collecting them sense 99' or 2000. Not exactly sure any more. I took a long brake from them during 5th edition but have had some fun with them in 6 and now 7th. I really like the total creative freedom with them.  But I play them for the shock value. ( now days )

I will also add that they're not to be underestimated.

I really enjoyed the wolves before but I am allergic to meta and "competitive lists".

Thank you for the encouragement, maybe I'll try again next year. Who knows a lot can happen in 4 months.

  • 11 months later...

Just short of a year later I am reviving my thread. ARISE! Form your slumber! And live again!

Not a full year later I am pleased to be painting Space Wolves again

I'm not sure what changed but I'm not complaining about it!

Last month I picked up Logan from my local flgs. ( Local being a two hour drive)

I'm still not done with it but it's coming along. After Logan I got a box of TWC those need to be based and just a bit more work on the thunder wolves them selves. And most lastly I have received a Storm fang from ebay. I Ordered and paid for two but only one has arrived. I am hopeful the second one will arrive this week. I have been assured by the seller that it's one the way and that they admit there mistake. I hope it arrives, it's a little stressful and if not I hope I can get my money back on that one. ( More as our story unfolds)

Here's some pictures!

WLK, I couldn't wait to use that wolf head you gave me. I think it's fitting for a wolf priest. I went back into the codex to see if I could give him a power fist. That would have been worth the points.

sml_gallery_3442_2354_40136.jpg

He will standing watch.

I also spent some time yesterday cleaning up my thunder lord, still a work in progress.

Let his enemies fear him and flee!

This model is a pain. I have to find a shoulder guard I like for his left rm and then chop it up to fit. Yuck.

I put the first two colors on my Storm wolf to day. I had a lot of trouble with my air brush. I cleaned it several times and struggles through. No pictures of that yet.

Great thread, uberwolve!! I really like your eyes, they have an almost corpse paint look to them. Very dark and stylized.

End of Line

good lord...now i really want some corpse painted wolf guard :D

Yesterday when I saw this thread the armour shade didnt really tickle my fancy, today I thought I'd have a look with fresh eyes and all I can say is 'YES!!!'

Amazing work, I love the way you have done the eyes, they actually look feral and not just like marines with bad 80's haircuts.

Thank you.

Some times I think they are too blue. But they look good on the table. I wanted the skin to look very pale. Some of this is how I imagine their skin would look from the descriptions in Prospero burns.

The eyes are yellow ink over a white dot.

I have try'd to make each model different from the next.
