Let's Talk Custodes

First off, I know that the Agents of the Imperium section has the Adeptus Custodes under it but since most of their stuff will be in the Heresy I feel that it is better in the Age of Darkness forum. If I am wrong, please move it.

On to the topic.

I want to discuss a couple of things.

1. What can we expect from Forgeworld?

It has been mentioned that they will be included in the book with Thousand Sons and Space Wolves. Is there any information on what they might be getting. Are they more likely to be a kind of allied group or could they have their own stand alone army. Also what would they get, maybe throw around unit/rule ideas (first things that come to my head are their spears and the floating Rhinos). Just a general discussion of what we could expect.

2. Possibility of at least one Black Library book from their perspective? I think that it would be cool if there were a book from Valdor's perspective (if he survives the Heresy which I hope he does) during The Scouring or possibility later. It would be pretty Grimdark given how he must feel about failing to protect the leader of Humanity and the guy who he has been with for hundreds of years. Possibly some stuff on the rebuilding of the Imperium and all that. Also a book about fighting Daemons in the Palace basement.

3. Anything else Custodes you guys might want to talk about.

I'm willing to wager that they'll be best used as a small but VERY elite detachment for most armies; though we might see some restrictions as to who they can join - I doubt it but it could happen.

In terms of Kits, maybe 1-3 special characters, 1 generic HQ Variant, Maybe that Grav-Rhino we've seen artwork of and maybe 1-2 standard custodes in PA kits and one Custodes in Terminator armor kit. If we're lucky a Contemptor though its likely they'll use the Relic Contemptor.

Their bolter-weapons will very likely be useful in modelling True-Grit Marines since its a CCW AND a Bolter in one ...Fluff murder aside.

They'll also probably put the Sisters Of Silence in with the Custodes and label them "Guardians of the Emperor" or some such. So, 2 troops choices : Custodes in PA or SoS?

Hopefully they add in variant color schemes or add enough variation to them rather that GOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLDDDDDDDDD BE BLINDING BY THIS SHINY GYOOOOLLLDDD!!

I expect them to be very elite and expensive. I hope that there's an option (albeit an expensive option) to upgrade the whole squad to have artificer armor. I imagine their weapons would be a bolter obviously and some kind of power weapon.

I think they'll come standard with Artificer armor. Would make sense since the Imperial Fists Templar already do.

They'll probably use Power Sword / Axe / Halberd(polearm) with integrated bolter.

Stats-wise maybe +1Ini, +1W and +1WS over a Standard Marine?

That seems about right. And I wouldn't be surprised if they came standard with the Chosen Warriors rule

Gold and Red is the way to go. Black helms for tacticals with bolters and power weapons, conical helms for elites with guardian spears.

In the above pic, I adore the black variant helm, and I really hope FW makes them the standard troops.

I agree, the helm is awesome. I'm really excited for the Custodes models in general. At first I wasn't sure about the conical helmets but I'm liking them now.

*mumbles*alright..soo..after the IF, its WE then RG, the NL?, then TS...or Custodes...*mumbles*

Brother, this is the bloody Custodes we're talking about here. I hope FW takes their sweet time on these boys, considering they will be some of the most complex of the miniatures and background history they'll be making.

I can wait for perfection.

I get ya. Oh yes I do. The amount of stuff I've piled up before the Custodes - hell even before the Thousand Sons, should see me occupied until they're actually released!

My comment was more along the lines of my progression chart / descent-into-resin-madness : IF->WE->RG->NL(unless next is released by that point)->TS->Custodes + SoS

I pretty much have the WE and RG forces fully planned out : Clown Car World Eaters (see the Army List I made called "muderface") and Raven Force One (...posted it in Fire Golems RG list thread).

Even my IF I have more or less fully planned out just needing to buy ~25 Breachers and ~20 Templars....2x Dorn and 2x Sigismund (so I can paint a GC and Scouring Version of each).

Night Lords will be a Stop-gap force that will only truly see the light of day if I've done all of the Above and the Thousand Sons &/or Custodes + SoS aren't released yet.

And with the pace Forgeworld is keeping AND the quality of the stuff they've been releasing *cough*bartheDreadChainfist*cough*, the Custodes are in Good and Capable Hands.

In the First Heretic it's mentioned that unlike Marines who are all about brotherhood and working together Custodes are much more individualistic and lone wolves and I wonder how that is going to be represented on the tabletop.

The only way that I could think of doing that with existing rules without gimping them is giving every single one of them the Chosen Warriors rule
