So, Lets say you have 3 IG armies collected. You have decided to sell one and are thinking about selling one of the other two.

How do you decide which army to keep?

In this case I have a small DKoK army and A slightly larger Mordian Iron Guard army.

Note. Vehicles are not part of the decision. My vehicles fall into yet another category/Collection.

So which range of models would you keep?

Thanks for the help.

I'd keep the Death Korps, because:

1) They're much nicer figures and

2) I have much more faith in their continued availability, so you can keep expanding the army. Can you see GW ever releasing plastic Mordians? I can't. How long is metal going to be around? They didn't even bother painting an entire squad the same colour for the promo picture.

But...but...Mordians! I have always liked the look of Mordian Iron Guard and I'm loath to see any get sold. I only wish I have the $$ to afford them myself, they might be enough to actually get me to paint even! Sadly, I'll be sticking to my Cadians for now.

Keep the Mordians. While their availability is junk you'll have an increasingly unique army as time goes on.

Ya, ya, ya..Heresy, Hersey, Hersey...

I have used the Mordians two or three times ever and the DKoK..Maybe one time ever. and I got those...I want to say I started collecting those in 08'.

I never really painted them I wasn't sure about the colors for their uniforms.

I guess they will go next. I plan to keep 3 2 Heavy mortars and 3 Thud guns both Medusa guns and the Cyclops. I think that's all of it that the Mordians are allowed to use.

I guess I'm going to go through my vehicle pool and pull out some of the vehicles No longer in the codex to put with the DKoK. Like those Colossus I have. Real shame about those.  But I can keep a lot of the tanks and other vehicles.

The upside to keeping the Mordians.

Every squad should have a transport. I think I will have a few Chimeras left over.

And I think I like those models a little more then the DKoK.

Costs for additional squads  over all any additions will be cheaper.

I am only looking at a few officers and a vet squad.

I have no squad level Heavy weapons for the DKoK but have loads for the Mordians.

Thanks for the help. I think I have a plan of action now.

quick one,

do you HAVE to sell? I got rid of a bunch of stuff ten years ago, and I am crying with pain now

Yes and no.

It's not a sell or die kind of thing.

I have collected 3 different IG armies I have been more or less collecting them sense 2001. In 08' O started to collect DKoK but never fully committed and later added more units and things. Honestly in the time between FW orders I should have built and painted everything I had but I never got around to it. Last year I found so recast DKoK stuff on ebay and added just a little more. Mostly the rough riders. I also found a load of Mordians. More then enough to use and very little left that I felt had to be added. Though I did add just a little.

But the real down side is that while in the army I hurt my back. Not so much to make me nonfunctional, I can still walk, drive, paint and what have you. But standing over a table for long periods of time and leaning over to move all those men. I have a hard time. And as little as I play now I make a full 8 hours of it.. compounding the problem.

I guess mostly I don't really use my IG as much as I used to and it kind of hurts. so I thought if I sold a bunch and just kept one I'd feel I was in a better state of mind about what I had vs how often I use it. Sounds funny I guess but there is a line of thinking in which the cos of the army you have either goes down, because you build paint and play with it, or it goes up because you don't.

Ideally I want only two armies. One"good" and one "bad". I at one point thought I would sell off all my Orks. But realized I would never be happy with the final sale price. I have been collecting them sense 99' or 2000. and have quite a lot of time, energy and ...money in them. For a while I though I'd sell all my Loyalist armies and return to the Dark Angels ( All glory to the first Legion!)

Playing mostly Deathwing. ( Back issues mentioned above.) 30 to 40 models to paint and very fast turns on my part.

I guess the real question is how many armies does one person really need. I'd like to add some Knight titans to my Mordians. Even after selling ( When they sell) my other two collections I will still have an Apocalypse sized army easily over 3K..or even more!!!

I don't plan to quit just downsize. And a healthy state of mind is easily as important..maybe..as my hobby.

Oh. And don't think I haven't had to adjust how I play my Orks. I have had to and am still working on a way to play that army in a new and hopefully interesting way that wont leave me hurting.

(How that's going to turn out now one can say.. But they will be very very shooty...)

Again thanks for the encouragement and advice.

Hows this for a sales pitch.

Be the next ruthless commander of the Death Korps of Krieg! ( DKoK)
Send all your men to the front lines and win that game!
Put them in coach! They can do it!
This is an excellent opportunity to add more men to your DKoK collection or Start one!
Watch opposing players weep and cry at the though of your artillery bombardments! See the look of terror on their faces as they sit there helpless as their little plastic models are removed from the board in mass! Callously seen your men after pointless objective! Laugh heartlessly as they are cut down in the name of the Immortal Emperor of Mankind! And drink from the cup of glorious imperial victory!

Yes this can be you!

How does this make you feel?

That's more or less what it's going to turn into. That's actually a really good idea for games away from home.

I hope I haven't come across as feeling down. In a way this is king of freeing me to get things done.

the only things I put into the DKoK auction list, that I just am not sure I want to get rid of, are the colossus, Medusa, griffons, thunder siege tank and the tank destroyer. Maybe I should hold onto them. I really like the Mordians.

I have thought to replace all of those with more basilisks. I have three now but could add 3 more.

I have one rifle platoon, no heavy weapons. Special weapon in every squad. 55 strong.

2 tactical platoons, special and heavy weapon in every squad. 45 strong each.

I have I think I have 17 chimera and 9 or 10 battle tanks.

All of that mess, and then some...

I really want to get excited about IG again.

I'll have a look over IA1 second edition and see if that helps.

I am very excited to get my shop space cleaned up and reorganized.

Thanks every one. This is helping a lot.

Started a rough list of what I plan to keep.

I think this was a step in the right direction for me. I think this will also help me when I get back to painting this army.

Both are interesting questions.

I like my Uniform color choices so far. Maybe the red piping on the jackets is a bit much. But I think that's kinda the point.

My over all plans don't seem to have changed from before.  If anything having less models will make getting them out for a game easier. ( And we'd all like that!)

The tanks are going to stay in their field colors. But vehicle markings are planned. 6 for the riffle platoon.  Dedicated for them 4 for the Platoon and Company command. Any additional transports will be Taurox troop carriers.

I don't really know how to answer to, Will my Mordians in fact be Mordians.

I thought they were but am I missing something? what makes a Mordian a Mordian.

I haven't put any time into painting them sense that large picture was taken. Back in January.

Well, meant: will you be modelling them as a Mordian regiment or as a regiment from another world which has similar uniform and arms to Mordians (like the core infantry of my Kierdale's Shrineworlders)?

Either way, keep the red piping. I love it!

Oh.  Yes I see.   In my subsector I don't believe that the Mordians are well represented. A lot of other regiments are. I think they should stay mordians. I am trying to decide on a number for the regiments. the "Deaths doorstep" as it will be affectionately refereed to by the troopers.

This will represent the survivors of a really bad warp transition followed by a spectacular crash landing right through an enemy fleet in high anchor above an outlaying imperial world.   Dense with jungles and thick with the savage green skins who are attempting to set up a raiding post. It will be up to these brave souls to to stem the tide while awaiting pickup. They were in rout to replace a sister regiment that had been used as biomass, to fool some foul Tyranid hive fleet or other, several systems away. All of the staff officers are becoming impatient with this delay and fear further reassignment may be awaiting them all to some back water worlds of no importance on some peace keeping mission or other. Far too much free time on their soldiers hands. So much paperwork and disciplinary actions, And did I mention the piles of paperwork! Emperors teeth! If only we had died in the crash! All the while looking for a good war to jump into to give the troop something constructive to do with their time.

Only time will tell.
