15 Shades of Grey, A new start.... with Primaris,

Dantay VI

The FW chest plates are great and they work really well both with mark 3 and mark 4, so I am optimistic it will work on marks and 5 also.

So got some plasitc dread bits in a hope to revitalise my old metal Bjorn, got some filing to do for the second panel.

Also tried a design on the assault marines.... Really not sure

I think if the edges of the design were sharp it could look really good. Maybe run a very fine line of black around the outer edge of the design? Otherwise I'd say they look better without, but as always, this is just my opinion.

The more i have worked on it, the more I am finding that I do not like it an might be better sticking to a simple rune or just the design as it was.

As a quick update, begun glossing the left pads for the legion symbols.

Been buying up a lot of the RT transfer kits.

A lot of red and some of the white.

Why white?

Well looking at this image:

http://i1206.photobucket.com/albums/bb456/dantay_xv/1legionnary.jpg

The white wolf symbol, is used by reconissance units, so I am going to use the white wolf symbols for units such as recon marines, seekers and outrider/ jetbike & speeder units.

So for a start:

http://i1206.photobucket.com/albums/bb456/dantay_xv/20170323_134522.jpg

http://i1206.photobucket.com/albums/bb456/dantay_xv/20170323_134531.jpg

I have a feeling the white is going to be too bright, so once the tidying up etc is done, then a blast of nuln oil or agrax might be needed to tone it down.

So I started my ETL preparation with the Mastodon, however having  few fit issues

http://i1206.photobucket.com/albums/bb456/dantay_xv/20170328_202511.jpg

Had to replace the bottom section when the holder bits snapped off, also had to take a fair chunk off of the floor at the back a the rear door would not have worked.

http://i1206.photobucket.com/albums/bb456/dantay_xv/20170328_202531.jpg

You can see where I had to drill through to get the brass rod in at the bottom right I can get the command section to fit better but it requires a fir bit of wiggling to do.

http://i1206.photobucket.com/albums/bb456/dantay_xv/20170328_202557.jpg

Even though the fit on this side is pretty good.

http://i1206.photobucket.com/albums/bb456/dantay_xv/20170328_202610.jpg

A bit banana shaped

http://i1206.photobucket.com/albums/bb456/dantay_xv/20170328_202641.jpg

Looking a bit lop-sided. Removed the front internal section because it will not fit in properly.

http://i1206.photobucket.com/albums/bb456/dantay_xv/20170328_202651.jpg

This side not too bad

http://i1206.photobucket.com/albums/bb456/dantay_xv/20170328_202657.jpg

Maybe hat this side up and pull it out and straighten it up a bit.

Hot bath time!!!

Hi cody, glad to see you back.

Lol Betrayer, no need to be jealous... Your Wolves and conversions are amazing!! Absolutely love the Leviathans.

Oh I got more than a Mastodon, but thats another story.

It is actually not that bad of a model, but I slightly messed up by trying to shape parts as I was going along which messed up the overall

However I do have a plan!!

 http://i1206.photobucket.com/albums/bb456/dantay_xv/20170329_202511.jpg

Crude but I am hoping effective... If I do not drop the model in the boiling water :D

http://i1206.photobucket.com/albums/bb456/dantay_xv/20170329_204620.jpg

Some jiggery pokery and looking a lot better. However one side is still curved

So a bit more bending later

http://i1206.photobucket.com/albums/bb456/dantay_xv/20170329_210509.jpg

And a scale shot beside the Spartan

http://i1206.photobucket.com/albums/bb456/dantay_xv/20170329_210804.jpg

I also jazzed up some bases and got the Storm Eagle front hatch mostly done

http://i1206.photobucket.com/albums/bb456/dantay_xv/20170329_214037.jpg

Not too bad a nights work

Thanks Bjorn... I also got a Spartan built up... So I a going a bit tread-head again

However...

Getting a bit of hobby fatigue, especially on the building side of things, so I have decided to go back to older moels which need an update and a bit of a freshen up.

Remember these guys from abut 18 months ago??

I got some AoS bases to try out as Prospero bases and did them as a quick sandy, brown-ish marble effect. It dried matte, so the marbly effect didn't work out so well, but overall I think it is alright and provides a nice contrast to the grey. Covered the skulls with debris... It's pretty basic but works well as a proof of concept... Any ideas for jazzing them up??

http://i1206.photobucket.com/albums/bb456/dantay_xv/20170406_142409.jpg

As for the terminators themselves, I am going to do a small knot design under the mini legion symbol on the left leg and do the design from the chinfist on the right leg...

Thoughts???

Oh and my sisters dog Not-so is staying for a few days and he chose my study as his bedroom.... GUess my Wolves have a new pack mate :D

This is terrific work, Dantay.  I literally turn to threads like these for motivation to work on my own collection.

I've not worked any large pieces of resin from Forgeworld...I'd be a little put out if I spent Mastadon money and had to deal with all that warping, though my understanding is that's fairly typical...?  Looks like some hot water and patience is doing the trick.

  • 1 month later...

Bjorn, yep bloodstains and glass I reckon fr the bases

Garreck: The kit is not that bad, but I have a habit of build first and think later, so issues with the kit are as much to do with me as the model. I actually tried dewarping, only to find that I had then inadvertently caused the warping... Hot water and a hair dryer have been my best friend thus far

Triszin: Oh he gets lots of treats, plus he may become a semi-permanent member of the family soon :)

In other news, been gone for a long weekend with the family.Went to Nairn and spent some time in Aviemore. I cannot recommend Landmark enough, such a great day out!!

Been plugging away at the mastodon. Unfortunately there is a slight curve in the hull. but nothing I cannot overcome. I ave also taken ut the rear htch piec for now as it makes the command section sit too high, so it needs shaved down.

So glued and clamped the model before I went away

http://i1206.photobucket.com/albums/bb456/dantay_xv/20170505_114418.jpg

Also did a spot of work on the AA turret. Ditched the resin barrel and decided to do my own from brass.

I think it went okay, but need to find a decent way of cutting brass rod without killing my blades, any ideas?

Will do away with these bits and stick the barre ends on, not sure if it needs something in the middle though

Why external ammunition drums on the Mastadon's assault cannons? As those things are more likely to take hits than a flyer's or even a Terminator's (the latter can still take cover behind trees, pillars, walls, etc.), the convenience of rapid reloading is NOT worth the added vulnerability, and the ammo drums should be in the turret, whose armor protects them and allows the weapons to continue functioning (i.e., SHOOTING) in the face of enemy attempts to deny that.

I never really thought beyond how cool he turret was and what it would look like on a razorback.

In all honesty, I think it is a secondary weapon, nly for AA work so it is designed to be modular and easily replaced, so building externally means it can all be easily lifted off and on (ease of maintenance). Mybe Mastodons might get other turret fittings in future, like the Aialos missile system on the Deredeos?

JBickB, how does your Mastodon get on?? And please post up some pictures. I am curious as I want to field mine asap...

http://i1206.photobucket.com/albums/bb456/dantay_xv/20170513_095020.jpg

On the home stretch now,gap filling mostly done

Weapons are awaiting magnets and just need to heat and shape the tracks which can be fitted.

http://i1206.photobucket.com/albums/bb456/dantay_xv/20170513_095034.jpg

The missing centre will be replaced with a half sphere to look like a shied boss

http://i1206.photobucket.com/albums/bb456/dantay_xv/20170513_095041.jpg

Tank commander will get the Mark 3 techmarine head and need a bionic arm of some sort want to give him a beat up look, as if his injuries have been too severe to fight amongst the packs, so now he is a ship master, guiding the warriors safely in battle.

http://i1206.photobucket.com/albums/bb456/dantay_xv/20170513_095141.jpg

The other tankguy giving advice, I might convert him up t be a recon marine.. Part of an advance pack, offering guidance to the ship master as to whre to avoid traps and deliver a killing blow.

Thoughts?? Thanks for taking a look.
