Blood Angels/Space Hulk working through

Hi everyone

With all the Space Hulk excitement I've dug out my 2009 set and my unfinished Blood Angel army themed around a strikeforce clearing a hulk in order to get them done using techniques and experience I've gained over the years I have been painting.

So far here is a regular thunder hammer terminator I'm testing out my recipes on. The basecoat and shadows were applied by airbrush.

I am having a lot of fun doing the details by glazing up the highlights so I also started a Space Hulk guy completely by hand. Here is where he stands at the end of the second highlight colour (50:50 Mephiston Red and Evil Sunz Scarlet) after many many layers.

Thank you all for the comments

What is the recipe for your by brush model?

Prime white

basecoat with Mephiston Red

wash with Carroburg Crimson

wash the deepest recesses with Agrax Earthshade

Layer Mephiston Red thinned with lots of lahmian medium. The idea is that after one pass you can't see a difference. Apply several layers until you are happy with it.

layer 1:1 mix Mephiston:Evil Sunz Scarlet again with medium

This is as far as the picture shows

Later layers are Evil Sunz Scarlet again with medium, first edge highlight with Wildrider Red, second edge with Tau Light Ochre.

Snuck a little bit of work on the test guy today

May redo the scroll thing on his chest it doesn't look right to me.

Thanks for the kind words biggrin.png

The one guy is now done bar some minor battle damage and I've brought the by brush model to the point where all the red is done. This pictures have been taken in daylight with no lamps so some of the vibrancy on the edge highlights has washed out.
