Specialists

Just wondering if any of the 'specialists' in a pre-heresy army would have used the current colours - eg: Tech = Red, Librarian (pre-Nikea) = Blue, Apoth = white - or would they have been strictly a post-Heresy Codex thing?

 

 Only reason I ask is that I have a Techmarine conversion shaping up to be a Warpsmith, so want to get the paint right.

i think the specialist colouring was down to robert girlymans silly book, that thrice damned codex astartes. personally id paint them in legion colours, maybe slip in a helmit or shoulder pad in red/blue maybe, then you get the best of both

Only thrice damned? I would've thought it more Chaos-y to eightfold damn stuff :p

 

As for the colors, maybe let a little of it show through some battle damage? As in they covered it up with their Chaos Scheme but due to wear and tear, it shows through just a little, hearkening back to their long gone past.

I don't think there is a right or wrong answer.

 

IIRC though, the red on techmarines comes from their connections to the Adeptus Mechanicus. Something Warpsmiths don't have.

A warpsmith who was a fallen techmarine though might still have the red armor.

 

Personally, I would paint them in legion colors.  But that one contrast character in your army could look cool.
