Part 1: Formation

‘Our Fraternity represents divine change. On ancient Colchis, a billion souls were released from earthly flesh in the Brotherhood’s purge of the Covenant, and great was the rejoicing; and stronger did Colchis become. The second cleansing saw the Legion’s ranks purified of Terran taint; and stronger did the Legion become, its chaff cast aside. Change is inevitable; the Brotherhood’s return is inevitable. So shall the Legion be strengthened once more.’

 – The Arch-Prophet Baz-Ezael, recorded during his torture/death vigil after being condemned by the Council of Sicarus for heresy and blasphemy.

Fall of the 30th Host:

As prophesized, on Boros Prime,

The third Brotherhood was revealed,

To strengthen Legion one last time,

Those weak of faith, their fate 'twas sealed.

Grand Apostle, at Master's heed,

Incites hidden rebellion,

To end First Chaplain's stagnant creed,

And see returned, Aurelian.

Holy Thirty, of Gods combined,

Swore ancient bonds of brotherhood,

With Grand Apostle they aligned,

For petty bribe, it's understood.

On planet's surface, long war raged,

Against the bitter enemy,

Sons of Guilliman were engaged,

To fall before such zealotry.

Belagosa, arrogant he,

Led Host before undying tide,

Reclaim what's lost to enemy,

Yet every son of Lorgar died.

Once holy thirty, fell on Boros,

Ancient Brotherhood defeated,

Traitors lost within the stratos,

A Legion's justice, 'twas meted.

Despite their loss they would succeed,

In making the Legion stronger,

The fallen Brotherhood would bleed,

Their weakness purged, a taint no longer.

‘The Dark Crusade upon the Boros Gate has failed, the Nexus Arrangement lost. The entirety of the 7th, 11th, 18th and 30th Hosts have been lost; our brothers not slain upon planet's surface annihilated by the Astartes Praeses fleet. Yet the Legion has grown stronger... Grand Apostle Ekodas, not content with his position at the head of the Dark Council, had sought to overthrow their rule in the absence of our Lord. Reforming the Brotherhood, Ekodas plotted, under the pretence of strengthening the Legion once more, to eliminate the esteemed First Chaplain Erebus as well as turning against myself, his former sponsor, in order to further his own agenda. With these key figures removed from power, Ekodas had sought to seize it for himself, replacing the Dark Council with his own hand-picked whipping boys from amongst the Brotherhood in order to secure his power. Among these, Lord Belagosa of the 30th Host. Whilst the failure of the Brotherhood is welcomed by the Legion, for such change would displease the Urizen and our ranks have been purified of those weak of faith, the loss of the 30th Host in unacceptable. As the amalgamation of the numbers of each of the Dark Pantheon, 30 is a sacred number with the XVIIth Legion and thus, the 30th Host must be renewed under the command of a more suitable candidate than before.’

 – Proclamation of Master of the Faith, Kor Phaeron, following the failed Dark Crusade upon the Boros Gate.
