The Iron Tenth of Istvaan - Horus Heresy blag

Recommended Posts

Been doing this on Facebook for a little bit (https://www.facebook.com/IronHandsIstvaan), so why not scoot across to here? Just loving the Iron Hands during the Heresy and I wanna document my cack-handed attempts at making them look good, so here I go!

First up, to give credit, here's the first of the tactical blokes I painted. I based my army's appearance off IronHandFanatic's photoshop work, as I loved his red-armed marine and wanted to make that the defining feature of my clan.10530928_1482992141946649_64434960020782
Ignore the undone bases.

Lemme know what you think, more to come!

I like it too! It really give them an interesting look, more... well... colorful :)

I would really be interested to know your recipe for the black parts of your marines, though. I'm looking for a way to paint my future IH too and only found quite complicated way to do this colour.

Hope to see more soon!

Kydoimos - honestly, I think the photos are just very complimentary of my painting. All I've done is spray black, drybrush Astronimican Grey then whatever the new Codex Grey is on the raised bits and then do some heavy washing/repainting on the entire model with Abaddon Black mixed with Lahmian Medium. Totally replaced Nuln Oil for me.

And on to the sexy portion of this post - the reason why I think Khrangar is psychic now. Still a wip, but here's my conversion for the man-mountain that is AUTEK MOR.

Now some people may tell you Sigismund is the best Praetor out there. Those people are liars. Need to add some proper IH symbols and the like to him, then some more cabling and he should be ready for undercoats. And with my birthday this weekend, he might get a harem of Gorgons to kick around with if I'm lucky!

Oh, and one more: a Forge Lord Consul, because of course. Gave him the power klaw because I wanted his fist to kind-of look like a Castellax death nub, and I suck at small-scale scratchbuilding. The backpack's the Sternguard veteran heavy flamer pack with one of the vents cut off to make room for Chronos' servo arm to be stuck on.

Ignore the lack of a left shoulder pad, I'm waiting on the chance to get more MKIII shoulders for my characters.

Wargear: power fist, master-crafted bolter, rad grenades, refractor field

Thanks Ratra! Your way is much simpler than everything I've seen so far, I'll give a try as soon as I'll get my models.

Your Autek Mor is really cool, looking forward to seeing it painted as well!

Evening Raktra,

Loving the Iron Tenth so far. The red bits bring such a cool contrast and make everything look super eye catching. Awesome job so far!

What do you have planned next?

Hooray, recognition!

Mor looks great so far. Were you planning on doing anything with the censor things on the legs other than gs over them? Vents perhaps?

Khrangar

I'm not sure on the legs to be honest, originally I'd planned to just paint them silver but the more I think about it, the more I feel they should be flat to match the general aesthetic set by the Iron Father and Gorgon kits.

Cheers man, hope it works for you! And my apologies if I inadvertently ruin your resin.

My next stuff on my painting block is the last five of my Tacticals that I currently own (10/15 painted), a Castrmen Orth conversion that needs a tiny few details added, and turning Callistarius from Space Hulk into a Librarian Consul.

And hey, speaking of those ten marines...

Good to hear! Mine's been done (again, based off IHF's ideas) to represent a close Clan tie to the Mechanicum, and whenever I get me some Castellax to join the force I'm going to invert the scheme, so that it's majority red with one black arm to show their brotherhood with the Hands.

My thousand point list should be ready to spray soon (big FW order next week), but I'm still undecided on how to round it off. I've got 115pts left to spend, and I'm torn between either bulking out each squad by another five men, or throwing in a pair of rapiers. Anyone got an opinion?

HQ

- Contemptor Dreadnought
- Multi-melta
- Plasma blaster

So, one of my Iron Hands achieved the ultimate ambition of a Son of Medusa and marches off to war with his less autonomically perfect brothers.

Also, I started trying to chip at the old paint on my pallet, and...

Wargamer biscuit, anyone?

Im really liking the the Red detail, very nice touch; different and still fitting with the colours. Loving every model so far...

By the way Mor looks okay..... If okay is Chuck Norris in an Iron-man suit that shoots lightsabers, while he is headbutting an Alien and high-fiving John Rambo. Just to get the symbolism right...

When do you plan to show us more of him?

Ahaha, there's a set of compliments right there! Next week there'll be more on him, I've changed my violin strings so I've got cabling for him, and on Monday I'll be ringing up about brass etch sheets to give him his iconography. Then bish-bash-bosh, cyborg boss.

Although, admittedly there's a bit on his back that needs tidied up I'm still mulling over. Maybe just hide with cables.

As it was my birthday yesterday, I was delighted to receive a stack of Warhammer gear! Most of it was Eldar related, but one particular parcel from my brother stood out from the rest...

Only gonna be using them as standard Breachers, but damn, Medusan Immortals are GORGEOUS.

Nothing fancy to add right now, just a very early (and blurry) Librarian pic.  There's gonna be way more added to him, I just feel remiss not keeping up to date with images at times.

Right then, slow-ass week, but time to pick up the pace and update y'all. By Sunday I should have the Tactical Squad fully painted, so there'll be a new photo up. I've also started building the Medusan Immortals, have ordered another five Breachers with IH shoulder pads to bulk them out, I've fixed Autek Mor's back (there were a pair of HUGE gaps left where I had to slice some bits), and the big one...

Five of these MAGNIFICENT bastards are also on their way. Life, it is good.

TACTICAL SQUID! Wait, that's not right...

The fifteen are done! Bases, no, obviously, I'm not a real boy. Sorry for the awful photo, my bulbs have decided to asplode all over me and I had to rely on a mangy lamp.
