A somewhat late batrep for Kill Team, but a little different as it was a three-way battle!

I managed to be unlucky for deployment going last, so I didn't have much choice for where I went. The mission was to grab VPs for each turn you held an objective, the further away ones worth 2 and the centre 3.

I manage to roll poorly again and I'm stuck as the Orks come barrelling out of their deployment zone - not that the Sunder won't accept a challenge when it comes! I do alright putting down two Orks - including the Nob - and wounding another so he's shaken. The crucial point is that the Death Watch have more room to breath as I'm stuck dealing with Orks on my doorstep while they were more conservative on advancing on the loyalists due to the terrain.

Next turn I successful roll low to be further down the pecking order, so there's nothing I can do to stop the Orks making their charges. Overwatch does kill an Ork though! My luck further improves (not that this was hard...) as my Marines weather the attacks.

At this point the DW are getting in a scrap with the Orks, but the Marine holding the centre point proves impossible to remove despite lots of dice and Tactics deployed... my Marine on the side capturing a point moves up to assault a DW Marine, further helped as my troops gather and cut down the Orks. Shamefully my combat specialist did nothing, having to be shown how to fight by a bolter Marine...

This ends up being the turning point to how the battle was going; the Orks are broken and effectively removed as a theat and I start making my marks to whittle down the DW. I move up to capture some objectives but the game ends at the first dice roll to continue, with the Sunder coming a distant second to the DW.

At the bottom is my so-called combat specialist, still unable to do anything even against an Ork that's been shaken from turn 2...

It was a bit of an odd game, aside from being the first multiplayer KT. We all rolled terribly all game for the most part, the game ending (I rolled a 2) early was entirely expected and almost a mercy killing of the game itself :tongue.: This was further compounded by the fact that the DW essentially won turn 1, as they got 4 VPs then and I only ever managed to get 3 :confused:

I feel it'd work better with an even number of players, as that way nobody is forced to play third wheel. This is why I didn't deploy on the craters as I know it'd just make the DW piggy in the middle. As it turns out the Orks unwittingly made themselves public enemy number 1 by gunning for everyone after going first, but they certainly had the numbers for it!

It was also a good advert for how while horde teams may be strong with their numbers, especially being able to dictate games like this and plenty of opportunity for objectives, but the nerve tests can be ruinous. Perhaps it would have been a very different game if I didn't take the Nob out of action so soon?

I plan to get a few Cultists done to spice up my lists, but that needs to wait for the moment. Plus I'm set on getting a Thousand Sons one on the table soon :biggrin.:

I owe another KT batrep, this time a four player battle royale - I'll get that done later as first I could squeeze in some painting:

I'm hoping the Contemptor can add some much needed long ranged AT, I've dubbed him Zhang the Lion:

Last but not least the Dark Apostle! I think the kit bashing worked well, good job too given the amount of work involved :tongue.: With any luck he can help with my poor Leadership rolls and his aura of re-rolls will no doubt be useful :smile.:

Taken a while to get here, I might focus on the Daemonettes next as they might take a bit longer to do. May as well give the vow my best shot despite the circumstances right?

Thanks guys, the Dark Apostle was a labour of love I think he's made out of about six kits (that didn't always fit together) :laugh.: With any luck the dice gods will reward this effort on the table top ;) Zhang isn't technically finished yet as I've yet to see what transfers and maybe freehand I can do, but this is the same for the entire army! I'll be adding a box Dread too once I've finished the Rhino, get some more long range in :smile.:

 

It's been a long slog finding the time but no rest for the wicked... plan is to get the Daemonettes assembled this week. Let's see if I can :tongue.:

Sneaked some base coating in last night and followed up with the washes today:

A great start, sadly this is all the easy work done! Doing all the chains and that will take time, and all the cloth and armour too where I'll need to be careful to try and keep off the washed bits. I'll see how much I can get done, the sun is shining nicely so perhaps Slaanesh is looking over me ;)

I think Slaanesh blessed me with some speed, I seem to have got a lot of progress today and I'm not quite sure how I did it:

Astrogranite left to dry for today and I'll see what I can get done tomorrow. The bases won't take long to finish so of the remaining details the gems are most of the work. They're very small so are not easy to do so I expect they'll keep me busy but after today I fancy my chances to complete them, or close to :biggrin.:

As an added bonus I'm using this opportunity to finish the odd bits on the first four (you can see them at the rear) so my Daemons are getting off to a good start now I'm finally painting them up :thumbsup: Looking forward to moving on to the Rubrics soon :smile.:

Just in case anyone thought painting is all I do, here's a belated batrep :tongue.: This was my first four player Kill Team game, and with my experiences in three player ones I was expecting it to be even more hectic. So it proved!

I took my usual list, but with a Zealot instead of Combat Marine (+1A is nice, but that extra Strength on charging is probably more useful). I was up against the Death Watch, Orks and Genestealer Cult and I was a little concerned that I didn't have hordes of models, fancy guns or fancy rules... More so when a load of GSC models get a free move to advance ever closer to me :sad.:

I do get first turn though, which I use to put some space between us. It helps as the GSC can't quite manage to charge. Unfortunately an Ork sprints from behind the container and engages my bolter Marine which isn't good.

I do get some measure of safety when it comes to shooting however. The Heavy Bolter from his perch has a good field of view and turns the rockdrill of doom cultist into little chunks - that's a load off my mind! I manage to throw some more good shooting at them to take out another grunt so I've bought vital breathing room. Luckily for me the Ork bounces off power armour, and the bolter Marine gives him a taste of rifle (I am slightly concerned now that my bolter Marine is better at combat than my combat Marines...).

Things escalate quickly as KT is wont to do, another couple of Orks bundle in but thanks to moving later I can counter charge with some of my Marines including my Champ. The HB proves his worth with more punishing fire, and the plasma gunner joins in. So while the GSC are closing it on the right flank they're just shy of combat and getting pelted with fire. It goes very well as one dies and the other who is all but on top of my Heavy gets shaken after his flesh would :thumbsup:

The game has been busy the other corner too, as the GSC and Orks pile in to the DW. Having no chance to act before combat it's hard going for the Marines but they are inflicting heavy losses on the xenos. The trouble for my opponents is this is not the case for my corner - my Zealot eats an Ork a turn and my Champ has no problems cutting down another. With the closes GSC being shaken again my Heavy turns him to mist from close range.

At later game, again as KT tends to go, things move very quickly. The remaining Orks are dying, their last core of strength bundled by the advancing Sunder. The remaining cultists are picked off by accurate fire and even with only a single VP difference between me and others (one extra captured prisoner) my position is unassailable. Once the last opposing team breaks the game is over well and truly - a heroic victory for the Sunder!

I wish I could say I earned such a victory - winning on VPs, winning by default and not even a single flesh wound. Once again so much came down to luck and the game order as the turns went on. In some ways this is what makes KT so great as you're constantly adapting but it could so easily have gone differently. I think I paradoxically gained a strong advantage by being hemmed in right away as my opponents justifiably thought I was less threat for it.

After all, surrounded with nowhere to go against dangerous foes at close combat it didn't look good. This got turned around quickly as good rolls saw the GSC's sure looking advance get squashed and the Ork player had already committed more of his forces towards the DW. From there some consolidation of strength and some luck let me turn things around and emerge unscathed and in control.

At the start of the game it wasn't looking like I had much of a shot as I was pretty much out-everythinged (in part due to the less than exciting CSM options and abilities) - yet I ended up winning by a landslide! :ohmy.: I think this is a perfect demonstration of the nature of KT that I'll use in the future when explaining to people. You can easily go from zero to hero - or the other way round :laugh.:

Zealot was a good choice here, but in the future I think I'll need to mix things up a bit more maybe get some Cultists in see how that works. Before that though I expect I might have a different Chaos Marine KT to play... :wink: I also have another KT batrep I need to write up, I'll try not to leave that too long as it's already a while ago now :smile.:

Looks like I keep flitting between things to update here, but that's fitting considering this update:

I was wondering if I'd regret the Exalted Sorcerer as part of my Call of Chaos vow, but now I realise all the extra detail will be worth it! The box is outstanding, so many cool bits and detail :biggrin.: I'll have to paint him in several bits if I'm to have any chance, but I'm looking forward to starting. Just need to build the Rubric squad and I'll be ready for some priming :smile.:

Decided to keep just the weapons, heads and back backs unglued - hoping it'll speed up painting a bit by making it less fiddly. Very cool models with nice poses :smile.: I should have the squad full assembled and ready for priming before the weekend all going well :tu:

Not bad progress at all, lets me use my hobby time this weekend for painting which is a much more efficient use of my time :smile.: There's a lot of (fantastic) detail on them so I think it's going to be slow progress once I've done the gold but an earlier start is only a good thing :thumbsup:

It's a real life saver too, I dread to think how painting these models would be without it. Especially since it took long enough just to get to this stage:

I've not touched the backbacks, weapons and capes yet either! At least the main work is done, just need the second coat on the purple and I can move on to the secondary colours :smile.: Though they'll be slow to do too there's a lot less so overall I reckon progress is pretty good. All going well I can make my way to the finish line before the deadline :wink:

Once they're done it'll be time to create a separate topic to chart my progress with them (and their own gallery!) :biggrin.:

Thanks Forté, been a long ride (and will be longer still!) but it's a good one :D You might want to read this Panzer - the purple should not be new ;)

 

I've got some more painting scheduled in for today, plan is to get the bodies and helmets finished. I'll work on the cloth and backpacks next as I need to decide what to do with the weapons so they'll be last.

 

I thought a black or next to it for the casing would be fine and work with the gold on the rest of the gun, but the little glyphs I'm not sure about. In part because they're so little! Anyone got ideas and tips?

Uh, that's the first time I see a purple Thousand Son. And he's rocking that color better than any Emperor's Child could hope to. No wonder they're pumping themselves full of drugs all the time, that must be hard to stomach.

That's more dark blue than purple tho imo.

Also Emperor's Children are wearing black/pink in 40k, not purple. ;)

EC are free to wear what ever they fancy. Black and pink is so last season :)
