Hi,

after playing for a long time 40k (Space Wolves), I decided to start a new project. Because of the fact that I love the HH Forgeworld models and the fluff my first choice are Salamanders.

So here's my first 30k list:

You are paying too much for the Firedrakes. Assuming its a 5 man squad all with TH/SS combo and m-c thunder hammer on the Sergeant then they should only be 350 points.

Also, while the Pyroclasts are great models the prevailing thought is that they are too expensive for what they do and that you are better off with a flamer armed Support Squad. I like them so would probably use them myself anyway, but you could consider just using the models to represent a Support Squad and spending the saved points elsewhere.

EDIT: Also, you don't seem to have any anti-flyer, which could be a problem.

Ah that was a typing error sorry. ;-)

I know that the pyroclasts are very expensive but this is my favourite salamanders unit so I don't want to change them. Fluff is more important than winning for me. ;-)

I'm working on a second list with a raptor gunship.

Some friends and I are planning a campaign arround the dropside massacre.

so only in the first games there will be flyers.

You are right I was so focused on flame weapons (love them happy.png ) that I forgot about that fact. So I here's the list update (I made a second mistake because the rapier is an elite unit not a heavy support...I should stop writing lists when it becomes too late tongue.png )

You've got your praetor eternal warrior, but with no invulnerable save he remains squishy. He needs an iron halo at least, or cataphracti armour. Also I'd add a flare shield to your Spartan. There is no reason not to. The archaeotech pistol and rapier are the best things to drop for this. You might be able to add melta bombs to your pyroclasts too, which I think would be a good option, as it means they can threaten EVERYTHING on the board.

I don't really buy into this idea that pyroclasts are suboptimal. I think they bring a flexible and resilient unit to the table, and are great as troops with the covenant of fire, at least on par with the same points of flamer support marines. Maybe I'm wrong, but I say use them.

Anyway, I think it is a simple solid list, and quite salamander, with a nice use of air support. Another option to consider is swapping the Phobos for a proteus with the augary web. Eight scouting pyroclasts sound great to me... And it will help bring on you fire raptor straight away. You'll lose the apothecary for this (can pyros definitely have one?), but it is an interesting option.
