Hellrenders Iron Warrior project log

@Dragonlover: I think i will incoorporate it in the fluff for the knight aswell. It's a household that fought often with the night lords, and have adopted some of their methods. Each knight is a predator, not a defender. They are reavers and pirates, effigies that inspire fear and awe at the same time. Just need an extra 1-2 colours for heraldry and to disrupt the monotony.

@Thousand Eyes: Thanks!

@Eldrich Shadowblade: The vindicator was done by airbrush (everything but detail). Everything was primed black.

Metal: VMC Black Metal - Army Painter gun metal - Army Painter Plate mail - VMC Steel (iirc)

The yellow i cant remember the colour names, but i believe VMC golden yellow. Simply build up until even (airbrush), and later on shaded lightly in a sandy/brownish collour on the edges. I should have done it the other way around, which is what i will do on future projects.

Very few progress since last time, but nearing completion on the building stage, which is nice. Still unsure on a few things:

Banner: No idea what to put on it really

Head/neck: Does it need more, or is it good as is? i might add some horns at one point..

Does it look traitorous enough?

The knight look's great, but if i was you i would make it look like the knight itself is infected by the obliterators virus (maybe add some flesh to the neck and body). I would say keep the banner (and if you want to test your painting skills then why not make it a coat of arms) and i would add some horns to make it more chaos like.

I'm not the best of sculptors, but i attempted to create the face to do indeed something along those lines. Similar with the arrows on the armour plates. What i'm unsure of now is what colour to make those.. a pale flesh (like i will do the neck) or just gold that seems to be creeping over the armour.

Eitherway, the other question now is the sort of blue. Metallic blue ala Forgeworld's Night Lords, or normal acrylic midnight blue. Metallic blue you don't see as often, but it's also quite a bit rarer. I just test painted clear red from tamiya, which turned out more orange then red lol, but i think i can get the blue to work if i just stick to forgeworlds recipe. The only difference i would do is airbrush the metal, starting with a blackish metal, up to gun metal with a very light highlight of silver. Then spray the clear blue/clear red mix over that, and follow FW recipe from there.

But the normal midnight blue is a lot easier. I also have no idea if a secondary colour should be also metallic or if it can be acrylic. Either way, here is a wip shot:

Metallic is a bit more difficult, but the results are generally impressive when it's pulled off well.  Do you have a test model of this technique to show us yet?  I'd highly recommend trying it out on a spare marine or something first!

In either case, great sculpting work thus far.  It's definitely brave to go for a conversion project of this size, so I'm looking forward to seeing it progress!

it was a close call this years ETL. Having failed a previous ETL and a previous Call of Chaos, this year mattered to me. BUt with increased IRL work load, aswell as now being on a holiday it got quite a bit of stress to be able to complete it.

Luckily i could bring my knight along and yesterday evening aswell as today i got to work on it. So with a bit of pride, i present Maim, a Daemon Knight-Titan of Khorne.

i had to google chaos runes, so all the runes on him mean something.

Maim looks exceptional!

The little fleshy details are super creepy and looks perfect for illustrating that obliterator virus taking over the God-machine.

I'll be honest though, I can't not see a creepy teddy bear face in the flesh on his groin plate now...

And so it begins anew. This year i aim to increase the size of my warband, with more bodies and some much needed ordnance. To start it off, this is my first (and hopefully not my only) vow)!

http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/322389-e-tenebrae-lux-v-realm-of-chaos-strategium/?p=4398410

I, Hellrender, rise to the challenge of E TENEBRAE LUX and vow to complete from Stronghold Assault and IA: 13,

Vortex Missile Aquila Strongpoint and a Vengeance Weapon Battery with Battlecannon, and a Dreadclaw Assault pod

for a total value of 720 points on or before August 15th, 2016.

Success will bring Glory to the Lord of Iron and the IVth.

Iron Within!

Upcoming week i will be building the Vortex missile Strongpoint, and hope to have some paint slapped on all of this vow by the end of next week. Busy in exam period, so we shall see. Should just stop wasting time watching netflix :P
