The Sons of DOOooom: Nurgly Traitor Guard

Originally, I had started this army....well, lord knows how long ago. In fact its been through several incarnations. During the last Edition of 40K it was allies for my Chaos army. Since the new edition broke, frankly its been collecting dust while I work on other things and figure out what I want to do with it. But, what can we do but sell all our crap(for pennies on the dollar) or soldier on. The army is a nurgly/creepy fallen army of Chaos,

SO..in light of that. I'll start by showing some pics of what I have in progress and we'll get the old ball rolling again

First off, the  sentinals..as they stand, in progress these days.

There is one more with the same progress.   The Leman Russes are next. There are 4. 2 have magnetized main guns.

Here's a shot of one of my Exterminator. Still need to be dirtied up/weathered and detailed.

Here's 3 of the hulls after Phase 1 of the weahering (basically a bunch o' drybrushing)

And their Turrets.... in Progress.

The only thing really finished for this army is one Command Squad..... (with Straken stand-in)

http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-gPIsPRh8y4s/UJDJ9YXb_pI/AAAAAAAAAwo/MsIgvwzlP_w/s1600/CommSquadExtras.jpg

And an OLD unit of veterans I converted years ago and gave a new paintjob....

I DO have painted Chaos cultists which will find their way into the army. I used to use then as Penal Squads, but they don't exist anymore. I've got plenty of models... just need to get them finished. I'll post some background and other fun stuff next.  Let me know what you think of them so far. :smile.:

Well, I have to ask... Why don't you use IA 13 ?

Well, that's an easy answer. It costs more money than I'm willing to spend on a book when I already have perfectly good rules no one will have any issue with. The AM(IG) book is lighter and it gives me all the options I need. LOTS of cool conversion ideas and possilities, especially nowthat Imperials are all basically one big happy family. Well, that and I had started the army  Looooooooong before that came out.

Glad to see you've started a thread for this army on the B&C now! :smile.:

Cheers! I had some of this stuff here and there in my Templars of DOOooom thread. But, with the changes in 7th edition, they deserve their own thread. Plus, they will have cool marine allies. And I like the idea of making tainted stuff with loyalist rules, just to twerk certain folks off a bit. Think Tzeentch Ultramarine....for instance. :blink.:

Interesting. I like the hunch back dude its almost like his rot is in the bones.

I call them "creeps/ I love, love, love the crypt ghoul kit for this kind of project.  I figure they are poor unfortunates who have given themselves over to Chaos and get experimented on and/or basically turned into pack animals.   All of my Infantry units will have radio creeps ...like this guy from the Veterans unit..

And this, of course, is "Master Vox"... from the command squad.

http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-PPasgLf-xvE/UCxxf2WG1UI/AAAAAAAAAiU/XW9wUYMvGpc/s1600/MastVoxWIP01.jpg

Eventually there will be weapons creeps and suicide creeps (demo charge guys) for the special weapons teams.

  • 4 months later...
  • 3 weeks later...

I broke out the Leman Russ' to finish them up.  There's gribblies on the turrets and engines that need finishing, plus a few details. I kind of forgot they weren't done....

http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-i556ebclAMM/VS9A3GLOPiI/AAAAAAAACLs/IRMGlZY6FyI/s1600/tanks1501.jpg

The missing turrets were getting their gribblies painted.  The one on the left I have started the detailing on, while the one on the right just had a fleshy drybrush and some washes.

Also began stripping some of the 100+ chaos guys, mostly berserkers i go t for "free" last year. Free means you have no idea how much labor will go into stripping, rebuilding and converting these poorly built and painted minis I'm about to dump on you.  But, still.... cheaper than buying them all.  All of the bigger models I got are stripped, now its on to the guys. They need another week in the Krud Kutter to soften up whatever non-modelling glue they were put together with. The upside being it makes then easier to rebuild/convert when they are just parts.  They will form the bulk of the Dogs of Khorne.

Thanks guys! I'm on a "paint the minis I have to finish" binge. While I whittle away at stripping a ton of marines, I'll be getting an infantry platoon ready as well.  The weapons teams will be weapons beasts, like an Guard version of an Obliterator, but without all the choices..  More to come on that.

More update on the possessed turrets. Some highlighting with , of all things, a light pink and we are ready for the GW Shades.

http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-FpxUoYtZI1Q/VTSN5LHqyOI/AAAAAAAACMY/EmnuKv6sBNU/s1600/PossTurt03.jpg

First shade was good ol' Althonian Camoshade. Watered down overall and straight from the bottle on the detailed areas and recesses. Then Druchii Purple to darken up the recesses and 'feather' the darkness out into the rusty surrounding parts.  Then some Carroburg Crimson to pick out the more infected/tender areas and pustules.

http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-E864AQ2iWS4/VTSN6vLnfDI/AAAAAAAACMg/vXLS4XRrLx4/s1600/PossTurt04.jpg

After that I used a light fleshy tone to pick out a couple highlights and do the puss heads/zits/ gross things. Detailed the teeth and mouth. After all that was dry I picked out some area with the Waywatcher Green glaze, so it matches the greens in the other gribblies in the "Bloody 7th".  The turret on the right is at the first wash stage, while the one on the left is basically done, except for some gloss medium.

http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-vXDx-8sZb2I/VTSN7hPmmUI/AAAAAAAACMo/iH_TCNnJRGo/s1600/PossTurt05.jpg

These guys should be done tonight...then its on to the tentacled things that live in the engine compartments.

Awesome work brother, as always. Love the way the Plasma turret litterally looks like it is being quietly possesed by a Great unclean one!

And big respect on the camoflage pattern. Palin ridiculous.

I stole the basic camo pattern from a WW2 German camoflage, for uniforms- not vehicles. And just changed the colors around. I try to do some of this camo, though a bit more simplified, on some of the infantry uniforms too. I hopes to give the impression that the stuff is captured or the guys turned to Chaos, but still keep the grubby rag-tag look a chaos army should have. I'm planning to get an infantry platoon painted this coming month, so they will atart popping up. And the Sentinals are on my "ready" desk too. As long as I've got all the colors for painting gribblies on my paint station, I might as well get all my gribblies done. :smile.:
