Thanks for the replies.

@MrFlutterPie - thanks!  I'm really pleased with how he turned out - I think his colours help him to stand out from the rank and file Sisters, while still tying in and looking coherent.  It might have been a bit sacrilegious to hack off the club that he was originally swinging - but an Eviscerator seemed like a better choice!

@Duke - cheers for the suggestions.  As you guessed - unfortunately I don't own any Repressors, and they're now unavailable on FW's site - although I would love to have the Dominions driving around in one.  Looks like I'll have to wait for the much anticipated (yet possibly mythical) new Sister releases...The Rhino on the Sister squad is a necessity thing too, I only have 3 Immolators, and the Dominions pulled rank!

How do you run your Seraphim?  I have heaps of them, but I've never been able to figure out how to use them effectively - they're just too fragile!  Any tips would be gratefully received!

hummm. the  Repressor is out of stock. I wonder.....

As for Seraphim, 5 to 7, hand flamers, melta bomb, power sword. Mostly a harassment unit (hit and run) that seems to do some damage. Have also had some luck with a pure tank hunter squad that plays havoc with more gunline armies. Seems that most of my opponents don't play alot of attention to both of these squads until there in their face.

Hmmm... maybe that's where I'm going wrong.  I think I've been using them much as I would an Assault Squad with Flamers...  Perhaps a change of tactics is in order.

I finally got around to taking some pictures too...  The long-awaited "next 5 Sisters":

And a bonus "Family Portrait":

I've got the Rhino for these girls almost painted too... stay tuned!

Yeah, Assault Marines are lackluster at all ranges. Seraphim are lackluster in assault, but at short-range, they put out as much firepower as a battle sister squad, with better ability to wound. They don't have Hit ad Run so you can charge in and do some extra hits without worrying too much, they have Hit and Run so that when they get charged, they can get back out to shoot some more.

Its been out of stock for months so give up on the wondering. ;)

The sisters are looking awesome there mate.

As I was saying though in regards to Seraphim, most of us run them in 5 Sister squads with 2 Duel Hand flamers for under 100 points, not too shabby a way to get 4 flamers.

They tend to annoy units and deal great with hordes, if you run them 10 strong though with Celestine , Flamers and Veteran Superior with Power Weapon, combined with their hit and run plus everything else they hit like a train, jump out at the end of your foes combat, flamer everyone, shoot again and charge back in.

You have to remember that unit has 8 Twin Bolt Pistol which is 16 Shots, 4 Flamers, 1 Heavy Flamer, on charge they get 11 Strenght 3 Hammer of Wrath Attacks, 27 Attacks from the Girls, 4 from the veteran Superior with power weapon plus Celestine then you can jump out and do it all again the turn after.

Thats not mentioning they can reroll to wound through Shred...

Got to remember as well they reroll their shield of faith so they are as good as Terminators for taking low AP shots due to the reroll.

in truth they are a unit which does not see as much play as it does considering what they can do.

Well,  Mud Duck, the Duke and Miko have convinced me to give Seraphim another chance...

@BetterOffShred - thanks mate.  Glad you like them!  The bases were a pretty easy recipe, but I'm pleased with how they've come out.  Its just Steel Legion Drab (or Khemri Brown, which ever is closer...), then drybrushed with a Bubonic Brown type colour, and then again with a little Bleached Bone mixed in this time.  Some of them have the odd bit of razor wire or other debris as well, but I've tried to keep them pretty simple.  I'm pretty keen for an eventual plastic release too... not that I need more Sisters, but it'd be nice if we got some plastic options (especially Repressors, and some kind of flyer...).

I've also got the Rhino all but completed... although I'm struggling to decide what colour the headlights/searchlight should be.  I am tempted to try out some OSL from them, but I'm not sure...

I might put up some pictures when I get home from work to see what you lot think...

Ok, so any input you might have on this...  I'm trying to figure out the colour for the headlights and searchlight... I was thinking purple, the same as my GK ones, and the Sisters' eyes etc, but I don't want to detract from the purple that is already on the model...  Thoughts?

Purple's not a good colour for searchlights because it doesn't show up against a black background very well.

You want white, ideally.

That said, those Inquisition decorations are pretty nice. Forge World?

Thanks folks - I quite like the idea of the light blue >> white for the lights...  I might test it out on something I don't care about before I try putting it onto my newly painted Rhino though, just to make sure I've got it figured out!

@Miko - thanks! Yep, I picked up some sets of the FW Inquisition Rhino Doors many years ago.  It was a few different sets... 3 maybe - "Front Panel", "Side/Rear Doors", and "Top Hatch" from memory.  Although I'm not sure that they're all still available now  :sad.: .

@Duke - thanks mate.  This is one of three Rhinos that will all look the same.  I've also got three Exo's which are made using Immolator chassis, with the FW Sister doors & front panel, and the FW Exo turret.  My Immolators are all just plain "straight outta the box" though...  I do love the Land Raider stuff too...  I've got one set of the doors on a Land Raider somewhere... It is earmarked for my Grey Knights, but I may yet decide that one of my Inquisitors has a greater need for it (and it'll give me an excuse to paint it in some cooler colours).

@Sith'ari - thanks man.  I'm quite pleased with how they're turning out so far... although a bit daunted by the 80 or so + 8 tanks that I have left to paint!  I like your suggestion about the lights too... I might give it a try.

Thanks everyone - feedback and encouragement is really helping me to stay on track, and resist the urge to get carried away painting other shiny things! :blink.:

Cheers,

Ben

Ah, those are the ones I've used on my Exorcists...  These are the ones that I've used on the Rhinos (originally they were intended for Inquisitorial Storm Troopers).  The Top Hatch (with the big =][= and the Aquila) is OOP now I think...

  • 3 months later...

Well, after a brief hiatus (I had a Masters paper to write, so that kinda took priority...) I've got back into the painting side of things.  And I even managed a game the other day.

I"ll get some pictures of the painting up once I have some finished models to show off (I've got some "Meltaminions" and a unit of Seraphim + Saint Celestine on the go at the moment...

The game I had was against Dad's Necrons.  Turns out Decurion Detachments are a pain in the posterior.  Everything in the army having a 4+ "stand back up" roll is quite frustrating.  They certainly can take a lot of punishment.  I managed a win on Maelstrom points though, so I'll take it.

I experimented with a few units of Militarum Tempestus (read "Inquisitorial Storm Troopers").  They're fun, and fluffy, but they're just a little bit too fragile.  Although I was Deep Striking them - so perhaps a Transport of some description might be the way to go - that way they can join the rest of the Rhino rush...

Highlight had to be 2x scouting Immolators getting Explodes results on 2x Ghost Arks on turn one... and then later one of them snap-shotted a Croissant (err... I mean Night Scythe) out of the sky. Certainly the "transports for everybody" school of army list building seems to be quite effective...

Ahahaha! I've run out of likes for the day, but it's good to see your sisters are still in the fight mate!

Looking forward to seeing what's new for your force. B)

I haven't forgotten this thread - honestly :mellow.: I'm working on some stuff at the moment in between work and moving house, and buying a new house, and study... Damn "real life" really eats into my hobby time...

But I did write this the other day... I quite like the idea of a fluff "snapshot" into one of my models, so here goes:

~~~~~
Sister Superior Manuela shielded her face as a gout of searing flame enveloped the corpse of the traitor PDF soldier – turning the body to ashes in mere seconds. She mumbled the words of one of the Emperor’s benedictions, almost without thinking, as she trudged towards yet another pile of corpses. This time, she and her squad mates stopped a little further away, as the Priest incinerated the bodies of yet more of the traitors – administering to them in death the Emperor’s salvation that they had attempted to cast aside in life. He was a lanky, ungainly figure, yet stooped and ponderous – one would have thought him better suited to a dusty library than a battlefield.
“Sister Superior,” a soft voice called from behind her.
Manuela instructed her squad to follow the Priest and continue their work. She watched for a moment as he shuffled off, escorted by four of her red-armoured Sisters. He was swaying slightly under the weight of the fuel tanks and massive brazier strapped to his shoulders, and looked liable to trip on the hem of the dirty white robes which dragged through the scorched earth. As he moved away, Manuela reflected on the strength of the man’s faith in the God-Emperor. The stumps of both his arms – lost below the elbow in some battle or other – had been grafted onto crudely fashioned braziers, which burned with the Emperor’s holy promethium, belching thick greasy smoke. Manuela was in awe of the man’s dedication. To have turned his crippled body into a weapon in the service of the Emperor was inspirational, although – she conceded privately – perhaps slightly impractical…
“Sister Superior,” the voice repeated, “His Lordship has instructed me to summon you.”
Manuela felt her skin crawl at the sound of it, and she spun sharply on her heel, irritated, to face the speaker. He was a psyker – gaunt and sickly. His drab robes had a disturbing tendency to hang motionless off his haggard frame despite the wind which gusted across the battlefield, which Manuela could only attribute to some witchcraft. Manuela could feel the bile rising in her throat, and she consciously suppressed the urge to draw her bolt pistol and administer the Emperor’s mercy. He was a senior member of the Inquisitor’s retinue, and so, for all of the revulsion she felt for this… creature… she was bound to tolerate him.
The Inquisitor. Manuela had about as much tolerance for the Inquisitor as she did for his vile henchman. He was a witch too, and by Manuela’s reckoning that made him as much an abomination as the sorry figure he’d sent to summon her. Inquisitor Lord Torquemada Coteaz, High Lord of the Formosa Sector. He could hide behind all the impressive titles he wished, but it didn’t change what he was.
Manuela gave a final glance back at her squad, and then indicated for the psyker to lead the way. The sooner this campaign was over, the better.
Our Multi Melta Immolators always do their jobs well, shield your troops from small arms, are able to strug off most small arms fire themselves and when spammed are also an answer to anti air.
A nice little bit of lore there as well Kiwiben.
I often have to write up fluff for some of my tournament lists due to the sisters inquisition combo I like to use. :)
  • 4 weeks later...
Progress continues at a snail's pace - perhaps slightly slower...
However, reinforcements are incoming.  I decided to bite the bullet the other week, and purchased an Imperial Knight Warden...
Then my birthday happened, and my parents decided that I needed a Cerastus Knight Castigator from Forge World :devil: (having a Dad who's just as addicted to WH40K as I am has numerous benefits!)
The Warden is 30-40% complete.  I should receive his new friend the Castigator in about a week...
