Cadian 82nd Special Operations Group: a plog!

I'm thinking next up will be something for the Big Guns challenge. Some flavour of hell hound!

Got the itch to do some modelling as well, so some objective markers are also in order.

After that my big hobby resolution for the new year was to get my Grey Knights up to scratch for a set of tournaments I want to attend, so the shiny tin cans might be getting some love. Depends on how my muse grabs me.

So I've pledged for Big Guns!

I took a couple more piccies of the model and thought I'd add them here.

I've got a back story in mind for this bad boy, hence the addition of the little reliquaries and the book.

Hound front

Hound side

I've also magnetised the turret, dozer blade and hull gun, so I can try out the other variants as well.

Really enjoyed building this kit. The spaced armour on the turret and the back hull area have given me some ideas for other projects.

I've got a couple of very sketchy ideas about using an open hulled chimera hull (manticore, hound or wyvern) as the basis for a salamander or bombard/griffon sort of thing. Nothing solid though.

Kind of thinking the spaced armour turret would look funky with an autocannon on it, slapped on a chimera.

So many ideas, not enough time!

Ah, Griffons... I've still not forgiven GW. Would be a good start for some artillery conversions, but I'd feel it'd be a waste of a good Hellhound.

For your sig, that code is the BBCode, so paste it into code mode (the switch in the top right, disables all other buttons when on) and it'll display for you :tu:

I have a lot of love for the Hellhound chassis, such a fun model to build, paint and play!

I agree with you that it suits an Open-Topped Chimera chassis look. I'm planning on converting one to be an Assault Chimera for my Kill Team!

Been off work with a stupid cough and cold, but at least I can post an update. And that means, my vow for Big Guns is complete!

First up, pictures of my shiny new Hell Hound "Lucky 2", ready to toast filthy xenos and heretics!

Lucky 2 front

Lucky 2 left

Lucky 2 right

Lucky 2 Top

And some random scribblings for Regiment and Vehicle bios:

Cadian 82nd Special Operations Group; the Ghost Hunters

According to the official records and papers of the Administratum, the Cadian 82nd Special Operations Group is a simple Shock Troop Regiment of the Astra Militarum. Brave, loyal, faithful and decorated with Battle Honours in the Emperors name to be sure, but no more or less than would be expected of the Sons of Cadia.

The truth is a somewhat different matter; the 82nd are permanently assigned to support the Office of the Holy Inquisition, specifically under the control of Inquisitor Varchilde of the Ordo Malleus.  In this function the 82nd prosecute actions under the Inquisitor’s direction and supply support and man power for Varchilde’s war bands and kill teams. If a situation warrants it, the 82nd will be used in conjunction with the formidable Space Marines of the Ordo Malleus; the fabled Grey Knights!

In turn the Cadian 82nd receive the support and favour of the Holy Inquisition; the Regiment is well supplied with equipment and resources and can make use of rare and specialised weapons should the occasion call.

The Cadian 82nd are a fleet based force, moving quickly from theatre to theatre as circumstances dictate. This mobility follows through in their tactical doctrine; highly mechanised with drop trooper support for rapid insertion.

The 82nd maintains a high number of veteran and specialist units, including a number of psychic-sensitives; telepaths are deployed among the 82nd’s command structure as another means of communication between Inquisitor Varchilde’s eclectic forces, and to provide a measure of defence against the warp-beasts and witches they battle against.

Command of the 82nd is held by Colonel Staysback; a gruff battle hardened officer who leads his troops from the front line. Discipline and courage are the watch words of the 82nd, but Staysback recognises and values initiative and tactical acumen in his officers. His men are value resources in the Emperor’s service and their lives are not to be spent carelessly.

Hell Hound Lambda-Two

The Cadian 82nd Special Operations Group are currently on deployment on the verdant jungle world of Karsh-5, fighting a serious of mobile engagements against Eldar pirates.  The xeno forces are led by a wily and cunning farseer witch who has eluded capture and elimination at all turns. The eldar psyker hides in the shadows of the jungle vegetation, using his witchcraft to confound, confuse and kill the Emperor’s loyal servants.

The 82nd have deployed Hell Hounds in support of the troops tasked with rooting out the xenos. The Hell Hounds of Lambda squadron are employed as a kill team in this venture, having specific instructions to seek out, engage and destroy the farseer and his retinue.  The hounds have a weapon load out specifically chosen to destroy enemy infantry in heavy cover, and are equipped with dozer blades so to allow them to better negotiate the treacherous terrain.

One might argue to draw service as crew on a hell hound would be a terrible piece of luck, but the vehicle crews of the 82nd would argue that service on the sturdy Lambda-Two would be something of the good kind! Lamdba-Two aka “Lucky 2” has a reputation for serving her crew well, and coming through scrapes where other tanks would not.  So much so that traditions grow out of the stories; “Lucky 2” is bedecked with lucky charms, notes of thanks, and tokens of victory; as crew men join the tank each adds a small piece of their own luck to the eclectic mix of tokens and hopes the old girl will keep them just as safe!

Lambda-Two aka “Lucky 2”: Hell Hound, Hull Heavy Flamer, Dozer Blade, Relic Plating. For those of a narrative bent, the good luck talismans of “Lucky 2” can “count as” Camo Netting.

Sooo many projects to get to grips with!

Really need to get my act together for my Grey Knights/Marines mash up for the tourney season, but the 82nd keep distracting me!  Also got a shiny new Imperial Knight to build and paint. That might get some <3 this weekend.

However the 82nd still have some toys in the painting queue:

2 Russes

Taurox

Vendetta

6x 5 man scion squads

I've also got some cadian goons to build and play with as well.

Also want to build and paint some objective markers.

Oh what a terrible position to be in :smile.:

Reason for edit. There's a Shadowsword as well!!! Can't believe I forgot that :P

Wow. Almost a month since last update. Damn real life getting in the way of hobby time!

So I have mostly been building a shiny new Imperial Knight. Which is a lovely kit :)

And I've raided the bits box to build some objective markers

Vital supplies and an abandoned mortar position:

Objective Markers: Supplies

And a statue of a famous Imperial Hero!

Objective Marker: Statue

And next will be an actual game! Time for the 82nd to advance to glory!

The column is from an old Lord of the Rings "Mines of Moria" set. I think there were 4 of them in the box.

All the objectives are on 40mm bases to give an idea of size.

I've also used the columns normally used on wedding cakes as part of hobby projects as well. They come in a variety of styles.

Another no paint update I'm afraid.

Played a 1k point game this aftenoon against one of my regular opponents with his nasty nasty eldar. Squeaked out a draw in the final reckoning, and it was nip and tuck right up until the end.

Was also a day of firsts:

First time with the fully painted guard army

First time on a new secret weapon tablescape tiles battle board with a shiny new load of spartan scenics terrain

And a reminder of a valuable lesson: always double check. Found out today shadow weaver artillery have an inconsistency in the eldar codex. Small blast in main rules, large blast on reference page. Small blast on FAQ. We've been playing the wrong version for ages! Thought they were a bit good for 30 points :P

Piccie time!

A WIP of my Master of Ordnance for Blood and Glory

MoO WIP

And a WIP of my GL goon for One for All

Banjo WIP

And while waiting for the gallon of Argrax Earthshade to dry I've assembled 5 more GL guys who will form the basis of 2 Special Weapon Squads.

Grenade Launchers

I've been thinking about how to use Grenade Launchers a fair bit recently, especially as I've got loads of them in the bits box (as every Guard player does I'm sure).

One shot at BS3 is a bit underwhelming, but at 5 points a pop they are cheap enough to spam, so I'm going to try 2 SWS squads with 3 each and run them in tandem; kind of like a super infantry squad.  6 S6 or small blasts on mobile men sounds quite appealing.
