Old Dog - Hopefully New Tricks - A Slaaneshi Warband Tale

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, quick introduction;

I've been on this forum for a few years on and off (sadly it seems all of my old posts/threads have expired) and I thought I'd give the game another go: more fool my wallet...

Anyway, I've fallen back in with my old love Slaanesh and have decided to throw together a little ol' warband. I had some fluff that I've sadly lost although there is a little on my very old DakkaDakka thread: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/0/443079.page Apologies in advance for the quality of the miniatures & photography, I have advanced considerably since then in both fields have no fear...

On to the models! I'm starting off with two schemes to represent two different factions within the warband as it stands and I'd really appreciate feedback on the schemes, good and bad, as well as just general thoughts/ friendly hellos if any of you recognise me god forbid O.o

First of we have The Disciples of Noise - These guys are my sonic armed noise marines, naturally they come in 6's, and are the majority of the force. This is a spare model I had lying around so sadly won't be included, but he does wear the scheme quite well:

(oops, please ignore the unpainted feet, I can confirm that won't be a regular feature of my models...)

Secondly we have the Heralds of Excess. These guys are close combat orientated and feature alot of Raptor parts from that god-send of a kit:

Thanks for taking the time to look/ feedback guys, really appreciate it!

All the best,

Heralds

Hi guys,

Cheers for the replies, I've started working on one of my Helbrutes while I'm waiting for my orders from a couple of 3rd party stores to arrive

http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u116/DiscipleofNoise/IMG_1276_zpsf00fb08a.jpg

Obviously it's very PIP (I will paint those damned feet!) but you get a basic idea, what do you think?

I'm also unsure about the pipes around the 'cab' should I do the helmet eyes in black and use the blue for some of the torso pipes? I'm not entirely sure about those little spot colours just yet so any suggestions would be great!

In addition my first order of a few arrived today that I'm very excited about:

http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u116/DiscipleofNoise/IMG_1272_zpsfd222c98.jpg

And with an extra set of torsos because, well, Christmas:

Thanks for reading!

Put this guy together today, what do you think?

I'll run some fluff with him under the working title of 'The Bull and The Raven' (three guesses as to where those rather unoriginal name come from). The Shoulder Pads, Torso and Skin Tabard are from Spellcrow and the blades are from the Fantasy Slaanesh Champion foot and mounted respectively.

This is The Raven as he stands at the minute, although I'll probably change him up to be more birdlike when I have the bits

Hey Guys,

Hope everyone had a good festive period. I've been busy putting together my run of the line troops and a few extra models for swap-outs as well as painting the dread and the Bull in the post above.

First off all obligatory seasonal family photo:

Excuse the blur...

I've also put together two standard bearers and a Blastmaster marine so I have the option of using them if I need to:

Sorry for the photo-spam!

As always I'd really appreciate some comments and criticisms on these guys.

Cheers for looking!

So to quickly tag onto the bottom here I've finished the official marine for this army (minus base, as I'm still not sure what direction I want to take with them just yet)...

Aertillus Krennan; The Bull. Champion of the Disciples of Noise 1st Troupe and third found member of Torren's Chosen:

Nice start on the army! I like the colours so far, maybe give the finished guy a bit more love, highlight his boots like you did the helmet. And a wash on the speakers(?) Part of the shoulder pads would benefit a lot. ☺

Awesome bits though, nice mix of releases, the fabulous bile bodyguard brought a smile to my face.

Cheers for the reply,

You're right, looking at it there the speakers do seem to need a second wash and the feet to do look a little flat, I'll get on that when I sit down to paint next.

Thanks, I've slowly collected quite the bits box over the years and with some great 3rd party bits its really shaping this force into quite a characterful bunch.

PINK!

I see you did a couple of highlights on the pink portions of the backpack.

I think the sonic gun needs some too. Right now the main case is just too bland, it needs some pop.

Possibly also the torso and feet, but that is skill/accessibility/effort dependent.

Hi guys,

@TJWrym cheers for the feedback. I see what you mean about the case being quite flat so I have highlighted up in line with the rest of the model.

I've been painting away at the rest of the squad but for the minute here is a picture of the rebuilt 2nd champion, The Raven, let me know what you think...

I wanted him to look a lot more sadistic than The Bull and his 'come at me' pose so I've used lots of flayed skin on this guy and will maybe add some strips of skin to his backpack also. maybe a little excessive?

Hi Guys,

Long time since my last post, works been pretty hectic so not had much luck painting, however I have managed to get some work done on some new units.

First off are a unit of 6 bikers that are inspired by the Dornian Heresy and the  audio drama Master Of The Hunt from Black Library. These guys are corrupted White Scars with lots of flayed skin and shiny trinkets as their current fluff is that the commander of the unit became obsessed with trophies and greed with Slaanesh/Doomrider convincing him to greater acts of greed until he and his unit commit some heinous crime and have to flee the chapter before they are picked up by my warband. Any way, Tester model, what do you think?
http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u116/DiscipleofNoise/DSC_0005_zps25a8faf3.jpg

I also put together a unit of terminators, which I Slaanesh'ed up with speakers and more flayed skin (notice a theme?) these guys are still very much wip so any input would be greatly appreciated.

Last, but not least, I have three members of my old Corpus Brethren warband re-purposed as a termi-suicide squad. these guys I wanted to look more corrupt and maddened by chaos and in my fluff for the Corpus Brethren they are quite fatalistic so that fits with their unit type also as well as how I have modelled them. I'm not sure how I'll paint these guys as my last attempt didn't work very well so any help would be great. They also have Fantasy Hellstriders (Helstriders?) parts on their knees as the sculpts where great and very nicely detailed.

Thanks for the replies guys,

@Forte - Thanks! It was your blog on here in part that made me come back to the hobby, curse your turquoise brilliance!

@Insane Psychopath - Well my painting table screams yes, but alas my wallet screams no... but I will be the owner of a squad of Forgeworld Kakophoni someday

@Slaanbull - As a matter of fact I do, here's the front and sides for you, my greenstuff skills aren't great, but I'm happy with it for starters.

Cheers and it's looking like you're on the right track.

As for green stuff work, I hugely recommend silicone clay shapers. They don't stick which makes it easier.

Thanks for the extra closeups of the champ, I'm not a fan of the usual terminator heads, but your addition to the snout made that one quite special. For tattered skin you could try letting the greenstuff set a bit before pulling at the edges, that might be an effect you could use. Combine that with making flat pieces between two layers of saran wrap before ripping it apart and applying to models.

Thanks guys,

@Pearson73 thanks mate, they were a pleasure to tinker with and I'm quite happy with them.

I'll look into clay shapers as I would like to get into modelling my own parts more, cheers @Forte

@Slaanbull cheers, I wanted him to look like his jaw was unhinged as if he was about to scream. I'll also look into that skin technique you mentioned when I get hold of more greenstuff

I might be able to post something tonight fingers crossed, does anyone have any suggestions for schemes for my corpus brethren, or maybe tutorials for the cleaved?

Cheers,

Heralds

What is dead may never die.

It's been a hectic few months with work, moving and that ever present distraction - life.

Regardless, I've returned to have another go at this whole modelling malarky. I am currently working on a unit of Cultists that I will, fingers crossed, have photos for this evening using Helstriders, Dark Eldar Wracks and some Imperial Guard bits and bobs.

Cheers Guys,

Anyway. As promised, some cultists for you all:

There are 4 guys with Whips, at the minute they are just modeled but eventually I might use them as squad leaders, or bodyguards, if thats still a thing? They use the helmeted heads from the helstriders kit and the rest is DE wrack. Some do have Helstrider feet, but they looked a bit goofy so I stopped after one or two (The one on the right has said booties.)

http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u116/DiscipleofNoise/IMG_2058_zpsis2p1smw.jpg

Close-up of front guy. We'll call him Terry, the Hedonist...

http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u116/DiscipleofNoise/IMG_2059_zpsglt3hn7p.jpg

Next up are the other 6 wracks bodies, I'm just going to run these as a CC unit of cultists for now. I will be adding more of the syringes from the set to these guys ala Batman & Robin Bane. And yes, that one does have a syringe in his head. Also, the heads do look more in proportion on the actual models

http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u116/DiscipleofNoise/IMG_2063_zpspptkz1wo.jpg

Last little bit, had some spare helmets that were a little small for Marines, and a little too big for these Cadians, maybe they'll fit Militarum Temptus scions? I'll leave them at the minute as the look rather Deadmaus5 which I find amusing.

Comments & Crits. are always very much appreciated!

Cheeers,

Heralds
