Crusade of Wrath - The Argos Nebula

Prologue:

Upon completion of the Maelstrom Conclave between representatives from the Astral Claws and the Black Templars, it was agreed that each chapter would begin cleansing operations from their respective positions, driving pirate and renegade forces out of Imperial space and back into the eye of the Maelstrom.

Marshal Sevenius gathered forces for the crusade while Reclusiarch Konrad began the spiritual preparation of the brethren.

It has been determined that pirate forces preying upon Imperial shipping and isolated planets have begun to have an significant impact upon normal trade routes in the area which lies to the galactic west of the Black Templars current area of operations. Scattered reports from the few survivors of the pirate attacks, speak of mighty giants clad in armor of crimson and silver.

Initial reconnaissance efforts have discovered that a number of mercenary pirate bands have for reasons unknown, begun unprecedented levels of cooperation, which has resulted in unacceptable shipping losses in the Argos Nebula.

This will not be tolerated.

The Black Templars are to engage all non-Imperial forces in the Argos Nebula and lay waste to the forces and infrastructure of those who do not stand in the Emperor's light.

Of those who would hide in the shadows, seek out and leave nothing but desolation in your wake. The light of the Emperor will guide you. He will be your shield and sword. Let nothing stay your hand.

Let hatred and righteous anger fuel the engine of your zeal.

Pour out upon the weak, the faithless, and the vile a full measure of your wrath.

In the millennia to come, let none doubt that the Emperor was manifest. Let no one doubt that he unleashed the instrument of His great displeasure. Remind the forsaken the breadth of his reach, that when he opens His arms wide, they will only embrace the faithful. The faithless will be cast into ruin and gain nothing but sorrow, anguish, and grief.

Show those outside of His light, the true meaning of Wrath.

No Pity.

No Remorse.

No Fear.

Brethren,

The Crusade of Wrath - Argos Nebula is a world-wide online campaign hosted by the Black Templar forum of Bolter and Chainsword.

The campaign will run in four phases, each phase will last two weeks. The purpose of a phase is to play games, report back the results and observe the progress of the campaign. You may play as many games as you are able to fit into that phase. There will be a cut-off for reporting results, just like the E Tenebrae Lux operated.

The Marshal's High Command will provide orders for each phase and any operationally specific targets. More details will be forthcoming prior to the Crusade's launch.

No one is obliged to play games, though those that do will earn the right to bear the Crusade of Wrath badge in their signature. Brethren must enroll in the campaign and commit to the crusade in order to report results.

The reporting will be straight forward and simple. The emphasis is on playing games to effect the conduct of the crusade.

Much like the world-wide Eye of Terror campaign, the Brethren are encouraged to communicate and coordinate with each other. Marshal Acebaur and Reclusiarch Honda will not be telling each of you what to do. Each of you are a Son of Sigismund, one who draws his lineage through our Primarch Dorn and to the Emperor himself.

The enemies of Mankind will not go quietly into the night. You must relentlessly pursue and prosecute them to your fullest capability. They will fight back.

You will prevail.

Additionally, Brethren will be encouraged to write battle reports, model and paint new figures, units, or vehicles, or create new art. Any of these optional activities constitutes participation in the crusade, earning the right to bear the crusade badge.

Every sword is important.

These artifacts will become part of the legend told by remembrancers for millennia to come.

This crusade is your story. Every battle is important.

Marshal Sevenius calls to you.

Will you answer?

The Rules

Over the next 8 weeks we will prosecute The Crusade of Wrath and there are several ways to participate. The first and easiest is to play games, more on that later. However, Warhammer is a multifaceted hobby and not everyone is interested or able to get a lot of games in, so in those cases you may also participate by contributing artwork or fluff stories based on what’s happened in the campaign so far. Also by popular demand, we’ve added a painting element.

Playing Games:

This is the primary way to advance the crusade and during each of the four phases you will be given a set of mission parameters with which to play your games. These are not full missions but add on rules designed to fit with the Eternal War or Maelstrom of War missions in the 40K rulebook.

  • Preferably, your opponent should be Chaos Space Marines, or Chaos Daemons as the enemy in the Crusade of Wrath is the Word Bearers Legion(Though it is not required that your opponent play Word Bearers).
    • If these are not available then you should attempt to find a power armored opponent instead(who will fluff wise be renegade space marines just turned from the Emperor’s light) or Imperial Guard(representing the legions of traitor guard)
    • Finally, you may play a xenos opponent as a last resort.
  • You may play a maximum of 2 games per week(4 per phase) which is subject to being increased depending on participation
  • You will need to decide which section of the map you are attacking(which may be limited by where your last battle was and which sections have or haven’t been conquered)
  • You will need to submit a battle report after each game(a thread will be created for this). Though you do not need to include a detailed account of the battle, feel free to as it adds to the atmosphere of the Crusade. You will need to include the following
    • Which faction your opponent used.
    • Who won and how many VP’s each side scored
    • Which mission type you played
    • Which section of the map you attacked
Fluff/Art

You may also contribute by writing narrative accounts of peoples battle reports and how the campaign has progressed so far. There is no set length that you need to achieve, but the length will help contribute to how well the Templars are doing in the region the story is about.

Anyone with artistic ability should feel free to contribute artwork of the crusade, including battles, characters, and scenes. You may even use bat-rep photos and editing software such as Snapseed to create 40K “pict images” of battles.

Painting

Since there was a high demand for a painting challenge, we’re allowing people to paint mini’s for this as well. Painted minis will count towards the phase they are completed in. This will work like the last Crusade Expansion where you do not need legal units. Single vehicles and groups of mini’s with a minimum size of 3(except for units with the IC rules) will eligible. One thing I would caution with this is do not go crazy, the High Marshal does not want people to get burned out right before the start of this years ETL.

  • You may complete a maximum of 1 unit(or partial unit) per phase of the campaign. You may decide which region you want to reinforce with the points earned from it.
  • Before and after pics are required
  • VP for each unit are as follows
  • 1 VP for a HQ type character
  • 2 VP's for a unit or vehicle(large vehicles may receive extra, TBD)
  • 1 VP for a partial unit of at least 3 models

Phase One

Marshal Sevenius wants to establish a foothold in the outer reaches of the nebula. This phase is the most crucial. Without a strong foothold the Crusade could falter entirely and Chaos will strengthen it’s grip on the region making it all the harder to extricate them.

However, the Marshal trusts the judgement of his war council. As such it is up to you decide how much of the Crusade’s forces to commit to each region.

In Phase One, you may only assault the regions of the map labeled NX-01 or NX-02. There are known shipping warp lanes between NX-01, 02 and 03. Advance intel suggests that there are also stable warp routes between NX-01 and NX-06. It takes time to move the massive warmachine that is a Black Templars Crusade and so you may attack a region only if your last battle was within two (2) steps of the region your last battle was in. Routes to and from regions will be revealed the further you push into the region.

You must decide where and how much to commit to each region available. Strategizing amongst yourselves is encouraged as it can mean the difference between success and failure. Committing too much to a region can mean the crusade falters in others. The ultimate goal of course is to cleanse the region of the foul taint of chaos but it remains up to you on how to achieve this.

Starting today, you may begin Phase One. Battles should be played at the 500-1000 point level and you may find the link to the mission rules here.

Good luck and may the Emperor guide your path!

Update:

Combat missions are concluded, see the final report.

I was tired enough when I clicked the trailer this morning to think, briefly, that it was a GW trailer for something, rather than home-made.  I wasn't exactly pleased by the ending of the video.

Well whatever.  Anyway, it sounds like soon I'll be charged to bust out my brush and paddleum for the good of the Chapter again.  Hopefully participation will mirror the ETL more than the Crusade Expansion.

Well, do you say that the Ultramarines come "from the space of the Ultramar segmentum?" No. You just say "from the Ultramar segmentum." You already know it's made of space. Just like we already know the Maelstrom is made of flashy, glowy heresy.

Grammar paddlin's.

Ofc it does you non belivers.

Sete has come to believe in the warp of the Maelstrom? Right, time for a barbecue... furious.gif

  • 2 weeks later...

A few questions:

  • Aren't the Astral Claws traitors now???
  • Is there a points limit to each battle report or are we allowed to play as low or as high in points as we like?
  • Are other forums/sub-forums in on this as well, namely speaking the Chaos subforum? in case they want to claim/reclaim a sector?
  • Where do I sign up?

We'll need structured, organized rules for this and some campaign themes, like points for Kill-team type games or terrain setting rules for Desert Planets, Ice Worlds or City fighting.

The other BnC subforums could chip in as well, especially the Chaos sub-forum members, to make the campaign a bit more challenging.

And special Banners/badges to be provided to those who lead their Brethren into the campaign. They'll be the Champions of the Crusade of Wrath.

We'll also need an opening banner for this campaign similar to ETL's and a closing date.

Just my opinions and suggestions ofcourse...
