Cadian 82nd Special Operations Group; the Ghost Hunters

According to the official records and papers of the Administratum, the Cadian 82nd Special Operations Group is a simple Shock Troop Regiment of the Astra Militarum. Brave, loyal, faithful and decorated with Battle Honours in the Emperors name to be sure, but no more or less than would be expected of the Sons of Cadia.

The truth is a somewhat different matter; the 82nd are permanently assigned to support the Office of the Holy Inquisition, specifically under the control of Inquisitor Varchilde of the Ordo Malleus.  In this function the 82nd prosecute actions under the Inquisitor’s direction and supply support and man power for Varchilde’s war bands and kill teams. If a situation warrants it, the 82nd will be used in conjunction with the formidable Space Marines of the Ordo Malleus; the fabled Grey Knights!

In turn the Cadian 82nd receive the support and favour of the Holy Inquisition; the Regiment is well supplied with equipment and resources and can make use of rare and specialised weapons should the occasion call.

The Cadian 82nd are a fleet based force, moving quickly from theatre to theatre as circumstances dictate. This mobility follows through in their tactical doctrine; highly mechanised with drop trooper support for rapid insertion.

The 82nd maintains a high number of veteran and specialist units, including a number of psychic-sensitives; telepaths are deployed among the 82nd’s command structure as another means of communication between Inquisitor Varchilde’s eclectic forces, and to provide a measure of defence against the warp-beasts and witches they battle against.

Command of the 82nd is held by Colonel Staysback; a gruff battle hardened officer who leads his troops from the front line. Discipline and courage are the watch words of the 82nd, but Staysback recognises and values initiative and tactical acumen in his officers. His men are value resources in the Emperor’s service and their lives are not to be spent carelessly.

Hell Hound Lambda-Two

The Cadian 82nd Special Operations Group are currently on deployment on the verdant jungle world of Karsh-5, fighting a serious of mobile engagements against Eldar pirates.  The xeno forces are led by a wily and cunning farseer witch who has eluded capture and elimination at all turns. The eldar psyker hides in the shadows of the jungle vegetation, using his witchcraft to confound, confuse and kill the Emperor’s loyal servants.

The 82nd have deployed Hell Hounds in support of the troops tasked with rooting out the xenos. The Hell Hounds of Lambda squadron are employed as a kill team in this venture, having specific instructions to seek out, engage and destroy the farseer and his retinue.  The hounds have a weapon load out specifically chosen to destroy enemy infantry in heavy cover, and are equipped with dozer blades so to allow them to better negotiate the treacherous terrain.

One might argue to draw service as crew on a hell hound would be a terrible piece of luck, but the vehicle crews of the 82nd would argue that service on the sturdy Lambda-Two would be something of the good kind! Lamdba-Two aka “Lucky 2” has a reputation for serving her crew well, and coming through scrapes where other tanks would not.  So much so that traditions grow out of the stories; “Lucky 2” is bedecked with lucky charms, notes of thanks, and tokens of victory; as crew men join the tank each adds a small piece of their own luck to the eclectic mix of tokens and hopes the old girl will keep them just as safe!

Lambda-Two aka “Lucky 2”: Hell Hound, Hull Heavy Flamer, Dozer Blade, Relic Plating. For those of a narrative bent, the good luck talismans of “Lucky 2” can “count as” Camo Netting.

Thank you Lord Commissar WarriorFish. It is good to see we think the same, after all a united front from the commissariat is required for enforcing discipline on the troops whistlingW.gif

Baneblade photos tomorrow. Not finished but happy with the progress :)

61st Daltarn Forge Guards

The 61st Daltarn Forge Guards are one of several regiments specifically founded to defend the various planets of the Forge system Daltarn, The 61st are an armoured regiment who are tasked with rapidly deploying to bolster the defences of areas under heavy attack. They have gained a reputation for extreme heavy handedness even in situations where victory is assured; Marshall Andrask is often quoted as saying “unless the enemy have been pummelled into patches of bloody pulp on the floor by more tank shells than is perhaps necessary can you really be sure they are dead?” As such they are rarely seen without deploying one of their 4 super heavy tanks regardless of enemy numbers.

Despite relying on large airborne transports for rapid deployment the regiment has never been overly fond of aircraft, so for reasons unknown to some of the more balanced commanders of the Daltarn system the 61st elects to only keep 2 Valkyries flying at any one time. In a similar vein the infantry units of the 61st are often seen as more of a hindrance than a help in combat and are pretty much exclusively used to guard the “Armadillo” mobile ammunition storage tankers.

Due to strong ties with several of the local Manafactorums the regiment is rarely short of parts or ammunition and is well respected by quite a few of the high ranking Magos, despite Marshall Andrask refusing to have the Baneblade Indomitable restored to full pristine condition citing “No one before me and no one after me has or will take away the scars earned by that tank and the crews that have bled and fought in her, she is living testament to the unbreakable will of the regiment and the Daltarn system as a whole. We will not surrender, we will not give ground, we will not show fear in the face of the enemy for we are Indomitable”

Baneblade "Indomitable"

The Baneblade “Indomitable” is the oldest tank of its class within the regiment, having defended the Daltarn system for 600 years without fail. Its presence on the battlefield is a true inspiration to the men and women serving alongside it as there are many victories attributed to its name, most notably the siege of the ammunition plant on Daltarn Sigma.

The siege of the plant by Ork forces lasted 9 weeks with thousands and thousands of casualties on both sides, the key turning point was the defence of the main gate where after a 13 hour long push to take the gate and approximately two thousand casualties the enemy was driven back. The defensive line of tanks and guardsmen held their ground with the commander afraid of what might happen if they abandoned their dug in positions, the engines of the Indomitable roared in defiance at such a display of cowardice! Despite having barely any ammunition, tracks clogged with dead Orks and huge chunks of armour missing from its hull it surged forward alone towards the centre of the horde, determined to find the enemy commander and end the siege once and for all. It eventually found its target 2 miles away from the gate and with the remnants of a burning Deff Dread still attached to its hull the Indomitable bought its main cannon to bare on the enemy warlord tearing all remnants of the foul creature from existence. Seeing this the commander (name redacted(executed for dereliction of duty) of the defensive line ordered his troops forward to assault the remaining Ork forces and as such the battle was over within the next 2 hours.

Huzzah, my likes are back so I can catch up :)

Not long until Big Guns closes for new recruits, so if you want to join in the great crusade time is running out! Most have got to the WIP stage which is great but we still have some stragglers - could this be our fabled 100%? Only you can decide that...

Painting is complete but needs weathering and battle damage, but I have a campaign game on Monday. Seems appropriate enough to weather, damage and name it dependng on the outcome!

In a first for me, I have written the background before the model is complete.
Now I have even more added incentive to complete it!

Previous Regiment info for Astra Militarum Event: 'One for All'.

To the North West of Imperial Space, Segmentum Obscurus, past the Cygnus Arm lies a relatively unknown Knight World called Verdant Secundus. It is the second largest planet after Verdant Prime in the Verdant Prime system of 3 planets.
Verdant Prime was once a lush and green world but suffered terribly after a dreaded Chaos attack. What members of the Knight families ruling class were forced to flee for their lives and make a concerted effort to repel the invaders on Verdant Secundus. Here they stood united with their brothers and did indeed save themselves and their planet.
Due to the decimation of the natural habitat on Prime, Secundus became the home for many knight families and the 3 moons circling it became outposts so that any future invasions could be detected earlier. Each Moon of Secundus has 1 large Garrison, and the 3rd moon is the furthest away, so is the 1st to realise any imminent attack.

The Planetary Defence force of the system is fairly similar to that of the Astra Militarum, in that the troopers are the backbone of the force and are issued with standard Imperium equipment.
The terrain is mostly a mix of desert and green woody areas, pre-dominantly around built up areas. This means that vehicles are not in use so much as mostly the defence systems in place are 'defensive' based. For example the use of Fortresses, Defensive walls, Firestorm redoubts for anti-air mean more standard Imperial transports for troop usage are not used extensively.
What the trooper aspect does include is lots of heavy weapons platoons and the occasional use of veterans who use carapace armour. Squads each number 10 troopers with a Sergeant in charge. The veterans use some aircraft for quick insertions.

Imperial Knights are much more common on Verdant Secundus itself. However each moon also has a trio of Knights at each Garrison. They can be rotated with other Knights back on Secundus at the whims of the ruling class. Whatever their reasoning for being there it is a splendid sight to behold a gigantic Knight or 2 backed up by scores of infantry armed with heavy weapons, rallied behind defensive walls and towers.

Currently there is an Imperial fleet passing on its way to the meet a xenos incursion, which is a real rarity. No doubt many Knights are being prepped and Households will be wanting in on the action.

Previous Additional Regiment info for Astra Militarum Event: 'Treads and Thrusters'.

Some time has passed since we last heard of Verdant Secundus.
The Xenos incursion (read Tyranid force) was thought to be repelled.

Verdant Secundus
Capital: Lalibela (New Jerusalem City), a holy city, is in the Northern Hemisphere.
Second Major City: Merlion City, a trade port city, is in the Southern Hemisphere.

Merlion City
This is an extremely large port city, south of the equatorial line, surrounded by a series of islands. As well as being the major trade hub for the planet and for the system, it also holds a large garrison there comprised of 5 Battalions.

Battalions 1 to 4 are pre-dominantly defensive, and are designed to defend each quadrant of the city. So each city facing, North, South, East and West, are divided into their own force. This is a real simple philosophy employed long ago, as there are 4 noble families that maintain the city. Each Battalion also includes the noble families knights within. It is their belief that by still honouring this system, their knights can defend assuredly, backed up by city wall forts and infantry.

The relationship between the knights and PDF is a strong mutual one. Each is seen by the other as a trustworthy counterpart, making up for what they themselves may lack. A true blend of force capable of defending in any direction.

5th Battalion
The 5th is an an active force and a mobile one. They are patrolling beyond the city walls, venturing into the forested areas around the harbour and across the islands. By necessity this means they include more vehicles. Each regiment of the 5th will have a chimera as standard for it's Command staff. Veteran squads can also have the luxury of chimera transports. When the city is attacked, the 5th will co-ordinate a responsive counter assault and crush the enemy between themselves and the city walls.

It is a well held 5th belief that they get hand me downs. The 1st to the 4th appear to get all the accolades and shiny new equipment (not really that new though), while the 5th are rarely seen within the city at all. They have become more of an adventuring group, a proving ground almost. Many veterans remember their time served with the 5th fondly. It is also within the 5th that young knights will be assigned to each regiment so they too can prove themselves.

Notes:
The 3rd Moon Garrisons uniform is a green fatigue, with black body armour.
The Verdant Secundus PDF uniform use the same green fatigues, but with blue body armour. Their vehicles are also mainly blue, with some silver and occasionally a lighter blue strip with Company number.

Additional Regiment info for Astra Militarum Event: 'Big Guns Never Tire'.

Verdant Secundus recently suffered a xenos (tyranid) incursion within Merlion City district itself. The invading force was small and therefore repelled easily enough, but the city is bewidered. They thought the aliens gone, so how could they come back and be present within the city itself. Unlocking this question is the main focus for now, as a repeat occurrence weighs on the minds of both the PDF and civilians alike. The alien menace must be denied a foothold.

On a more positive note, the cities defences performed admirably. Knights proved more than a match for the few larger creatures, the PDF mobilised speedily, city defensive batteries chimed in when needed and airborne support was keenly dispatched from Lalibela (the capital city). Although the air support was hardly warranted, it was a great boost to morale to know it was available and responded in haste.

The 5th Battalion were close at hand performing manoeuvres, so hurried back to the city. As the alien threat had appeared to originate within the city, the 5th entered via the south port entrance amid the lower canals, cordoning off the docks and market areas. It was in this environment of built up and narrow corridors that the newest addition to the 5th began to shine. The Wyvern, which had originally been added to make short work of any enemy hugging cover in the wooded surrounds, instead proved valuable reducing the cover of small fast enemies in the city confines.

For now the 'excitement' surrounding the xenos race encountered on Verdant Secundus is dissipating, the Merlion City officials are duly performing their investigation. They don't want to become complacent and allow a similar, possibly worse scenario in the future.

Info for Wyvern

(Names)
Wyvern Tank = Liberte
Gunnery Seneschal = Charlie
Charlies Confidant = Hebdo

The Wyvern, 'Liberte' is a part of the Verdant Secundus PDF, Merlion City Garrison, 5th Battalion. The newest addition has already proved its worth and gained much admiration among the 5th, and other companies too, in light of its recent actions.

Within the 5th, Liberte was originally intended to add more suppressive fire and work in a supportive role to the mobile mortar elements already in use. The fire output is performing so well, questions are being raised as to defining its role in other areas as well.

Charlie, Hebdo and Liberte found themselves in an urban combat zone fighting against the xenos threat. How a standard Wyvern could be fired till out of ammo in under 1 imperial hour is still being asked, but they did.

Being in a heavily compact downtown market district, they eyed off possible mortar replacements, or anything really to use as suitable shrapnel.

Charlie spyed a stationers store. Concerned support PDF members reported afterwards they did hear Hebdo voicing his concerns, and Charlie reportedly said, 'I don't care. We have nothing else, I will not waste our magnificent tank sitting here idle without at least trying it. Have Faith.'

With that, all 4 large barrels were loaded up with whatever metal or weighty objects were at hand included biros, staples and staple guns, hole punches, paper clips, calculators, even loose imperial credits!

When the xenos approached down the street, a nervous moment for all present. Charlie uttered,' Everyone back here (small hand wave) now Fire!'

It worked! But at a severely reduced range. As the raw bits of junk were not encased in a proper shell, the firing mechanism although solid, could not propel them as far. But in extremely close range they still found their way through alien carapaces. The biros were a real surprise, as although their outer plastic casings melted a bit, the metal ink cartridges remained intact, and proved just as deadly as any small calibre projectile handgun.

After that initial live test run a few brave PDF members helped hurriedly 'reload'. And so it continued, firing and reloading amid the cries of gunnery seneschal Charlie, 'For freedom! Send them to shrapnel heaven!'

Big Guns Never Tire 002

Big Guns Never Tire 001

I bring you Knight Commander Pask in his Punisher now attached to the 2nd Cavalry Regiment.

The 2nd Cavalry can trace it's lineage all the way back to Terra in the  year 1836. When they were formed as the Second Regiment of Dragoons to fight the Seminole indian tribe. This makes them the longest continually operating cavalry unit in the Imperium. The 2nd Cav has been at the forefront of battle since that time. Distinguishing itself time and time again. The motto of 2nd Cav, Toujours Pret, which translates to Always Ready has been the rallying cry for it's cav troopers since that time. You will always find the 2nd Cav at the forefront of any armored spearhead. Its tank leading the charge into any enemy defense. Fast moving and hard hitting. Using maneuver, firepower and shock effect to close with and destory any and all enemies of the Imperium.

Leading the way as a hard hitting, armored heavy force the 2nd Cav is know for it's flexibility in battle. Giving it the ability to succesfully accomplish almost any kind of mission. 2nd Cav most recently working very closely with Sharpe's Rifles in battling the Archenemy and it's forces lead by Urlock Gaur in the Sabbat Crusade.

'Eagle 6'

The command tank of E Trp 2nd Sqd, 2nd Cav has changed hands on several occasions and the designation of Eagle 6 has changed hands almost as much. As commanders are killed or transferred to new units. The latest itteration is the Punisher(Bullet Hose) variant of the Leman Russ. This particular Punisher has served with the E Troop for almost 85 years and has seen action on several planets within the Sabbat System. One of the most important contributions was during the capture of Balhaut.

2nd Cav on orders to flank around the capitol dispatched a heavy recon screen into an industrial area. This screen included 2 Salamander recon tanks supported by 2 Leman Russ Battle Tanks and the Punisher 'Bullet Hose'. This screen was attacked and after fierce fighting that destroyed the Salamanders and the Battle Tanks left Bullet Hose immobilized, with no comms and  on it's own against a battalion of Blood Pact troops. The tank then commanded by Sergeant Lafayette 'Wardaddy' Pool stood as the only armor protecting the entire flank of the battle group. One particular assault had Bullet Hose surrounded by troops and the only thing to save her and her crew was the igniting of the fire barrels around her hull.

After 19 hours of intense fighting that left Bullet Hose desperately low on ammo, with 2 crewmembers killed and Pool losing a leg. They were finally relieved. Final kill tally was 275 Blood Pact troops and another 300 wounded.
