2015 Army (fight or die)

Seeing as I am going to have a bunch of left over bits from my penance army I have decided to make a small force for 40K. After seeing the phenomenal work done by Dorns_fist and reading "Bitter Salvage", I have decided to try Marines Malevolent.

I figure with the extra time it takes to paint these guys I won't have to worry about painting as many. Plus it forces me to paint yellow, which I normally avoid like a hug from Papa Nurgle himself.

As always any C&C is welcome and pointers, tips, or advice would be appreciated. Thanks for taking a look.

Noctem - it's all brushed smile.png that's why I said it's going to be a small force

One coat of dark sea grey (Vallejo Game Color)

Two coats of thinned Ochre (Vallejo Model Air)

Washed with the old flesh wash (GW)

Two coats thined Golden Yellow (Vallejo Game color)

Recesses "washed" with Earthshade (GW)

I see what you mean about the black. I may have washed it out after my highlights. It has two shades of gray highlights and then a black wash, but that may have been too harse. I will try diluting it and see how that turns out. Thanks for the input.

Brother Traced, The Broken One, Last of the Tanhauser Defenders, the Zealot, Marine Malevolent Veteran.

Brother Traced was destined to live and die as untold billions within the Imperium. That changed when he was discovered by a Marines Malevolent recruitment purge of his hive slum.

He quickly progressed through the ranks of scout and distinguished himself as a tactical marine, culminating in the battle of Tanhauser Wall. The remnants of his squad were the sole survivors of the battle for which he earned the Iron Aquila. He still incorporates this award into his armor to this day

Though his squad mates and Brothers refer to him as "the Zealot" closer inspection reveal that his prayers are not directed to the Emperor, a Primarch, or even a Chapter ancient. Throughout each battle his prayers are sung to the ancient machine spirit of his battered and failing Tactical Dreadnaught Plate. Requesting simply one more battle for the imperium of man (visible is the modified tageting array moved from Traced's helmet to an external pick-up in his power fist)...

Brother Traced's left shoulder plate bears honor markings for two of his Imperial cousins that gave thier lives so that his plate could continue to serve the Imperium.

Tried this one with a white primer rather than a grey one. As always C&C is welcome and tips and advice are always welcome. Thanks for taking a look.

Ephrael and Grizzly_bear, thank you both :)

Now that I have the right army it is just a matter of repetition to get the right colors. These guys seem to be perfect for me as they allow so much diversity in the builds as well as being nowhere near "parade ground pretty" which most armies are.

Made my first attempt at air brushing (made lots of mistakes).

Used chipping medium for the first time and put polyurethane primer on top of it. It all peeled up so I had to start over.

Used oil based paint for shading and I have a lot of work to go to get it right, but I can definitely see why people like it.

Started the mud work but haven't added the powders or heavy effects yet so its not an issue yet.

Tried to do rust but didn't have "rust streaks" so tried it with a rust wash instead.

I think being Marines Malevolent saves me a little with the paint job :)

C&C, tips, or any advice are always welcome. Thanks for taking a look.

Went with Heavy Bolters and made the doors in case I want to run it as a rhino. Still need to add the mud and pigments, but I am surprised ( and honestly happy) with it as a air brush test piece.

The black and bits are brush painted, but the majority is airbrushed. It's just a matter of getting over my fear of the equipment I guess :)

As always any C&C or other input is welcome.
