crimson slaughter colour scheme advice

Recommended Posts

My most recent batches of models have been painted with the following method

Undercoat in Chaos Black spray
Apply a basecoat of Khorne Red (whilst risking the detail, avoid using water to thin else it becomes very pink)
Wash with Carroberg Crimson to pick out the detail. This generally turns the red areas black where it pools.
Now apply Mephiston Red to almost all the areas of armour, avoid the very edges
Highlight using Evil Sunz Scarlet, again not at the very edges, and I've been experiementing with blending in the highlight with a clean brush.

Some of my earlier models had Blood for the Blood God applied over their entire model, but I wasn't massively happy with the brighter colours.

The metal areas are Warplock Bronze base, with Golden Griffon painted on with a fine detail brush, not quite coating all the area, and the larger metallic areas washed with Nuln Oil.

Mephiston Red would work, id prefer Khorne Red if I was choosing myself.

I would also say Mephiston Red from what I've seen in the supplament & White Dwarf.  Try the spray cans that Games Workdshop release with the Blood Angels.  Then use brown wash in the recess/joint in the armour.

Tale of Painted blog has a step by step painting guide if this is any help?

I've tried the Mephiston Red spray, it's too light to give much of a depth to the colours. Far more useful for painting the Pink Horrors and my upcoming Noise Marines than standard Crimson Slaughter troops IMO.

I would offer you advice, but my recipe changes so much.....

As I am getting closer to nailing it down, I hope to do a little post on the process in my crimson blog thread. But there's lots of great advice here already to be honest.
