My White Scars Successor Chptr - Painting in Progress (pics)

The dreads look great - if a little confusing in a White Scars successor chapter :P How do you do that light effect with the red, is it just dry brushing? I want to do a similar effect for the lights on the front of my bikes, but I don't dare try it until I know how it's done.

Thanks and yes its just dry brushing. Worked my way up from a dark red to red to hot orange.

Great army! Those bike bases are fantastic.

One question, did you pin the bikes to the base or just glue them right on?

I have a ton of bikes to base and want to make sure if I base them like this I attach them correctly.

Solid Color scheme. I love the chapter symbol as well. You didn't happen to get that from the Dragon Age games did you? It sure looks a hell of a lot like the Blood Dragon logo, and I absolutely love it.

Thank you!  I've seen something similar to it a long time ago so I drew it based on what I remembered, not sure where it came from.

Thanks!  No pins on the bikes just glue.  So sorry for the late reply I wasn't subscribed to the thread

Their Chapter Master has arrived, along with his body guard :)

A W E S O M E ! ! !

Thanks dude!

Black and white? Sweet nectar.

Love the Dragon Age-esque design on the Thunderfires.

Yeah when I was starting this Army I was terrible at painting white but I had a glimpse of hope painting black! So I went with an opposite WS theme with the intention of always running them as such. I'm very happy with the result, it looks really sinister on the table!

Niiiice. Once again showing us all up. msn-wink.gif

The chapter master hs some nice conversions. How are you running him?

Also, can we see some other angles?

haha thanks buddy. I'm running the CM on his new jet bike with Artificer Armor, Shield Eternal, Thunder hammer (I just loved that FW axe which is why I used it and my buddy's think it can pass as a hammer smile.png. He's a real presence on the board with that load out and brings the pain down! I usually attach him to a unit of 5 bikes and a libby on a bike, then later in the game he leaves the unit and brings the pain! The kit is a converted jetbike from FW. added Stormtalon rear wings to the back (had to cut them up precisely). The armor, axe, head and shoulder pads are all FW. The legs are Dark Angels with the cape. Here are a few more pictures from different angles:

Don't have a rear shot on him but the engine is glowing blue like its fired up and launching him off into battle. I have yet to add the freehand symbols or battle damage to the bike but those will follow!

Big brother is complete!  This was my first time messing around with checkered pattern painting.  It was easier than I thought it would be and turned out really cool.  Enjoy

I really like your overall paint scheme, the way you've not limited yourself to the dragon in only one pose/form and your mud technique which makes the bikes look like they are driving in mud but are not put away muddy every night. If that last doesn't make sense, it's like when people paint chips onto the minis - some chips are fine but too many and it looks like you never paint your armor after a battle.

I like the headlights on the bikes. Such a simple thing but it stood out to me.

I am not a fan of the jetbike model from Forgeworld but everyone's tastes are different. You have done a great paintjob on yours. I also don't normally like the knight models but actually like yours. Great job.

I echo putting the dragon from the TFCs on the talon and possibly the knights. It would look really cool.

I am interested in seeing your list if you'd be willing to post it. You have a lot of things I hadn't expected in a White Scars force and I'd really be interested in seeing what exactly you've done.

PS: I also like the skull and scythes icon on the knights. It's the first thing that stood out to me on the knights. I have to repeat how I think it's cool that you didn't limit yourself to a single chapter icon but modified everything as you got to a different type of unit. All of the GW chapters do this but it is rare for players to do so.

Thanks so much for your compliments and suggestions.  FYI I customized the FW bike, I added rear wings to it (Stormtalon wings) to give it less of an appearance of a male body part and more of a sweet looking flying machine!  :-P

I've thought about adding the dragons to the knights, definitely a plan of mine just takes a lot of time to do those so its on the list!  I love painting and modding models to have the look I want.  I don't necessarily stick to any particular fluff.  That's one of the things I LOVE about this hobby so much, you can be creative and really turn it into anything you want it to be!

Regarding my WS list, I don't really have any one list anymore.  I used to run a very hard hitting bike Army, which included a decked out Chapter Master on a bike with artificer armor, shield eternal, powerfist, etc.  And then I'd run like 7-8 (5)man bike squads, 3-4 with 2 gravs/combi grav, 2 sqds w 2 meltas/combi and then 1 squad with flamers.  Then I'd take 1-2 thunderfire cannons and three landspeeders with Typhoon Missile Launchers and Heavy Bolters.  I also LOVE scout bikes, 3 man squads with meltabombs, a super cheap unit that causes havok and is usually ignored by the opponent.  Then to fill the rest of the points it would be a toss up, sometimes Stormtalons with TML/A/Cs (or) Ironclad dreads with melta/flamer and fists in drop pods <-- that one is always fun when you run a ton of bikes with Kahn and 2 dreds with 3 droppods (1 empty).  Turn 1 you scout all of your bikes forward and then drop 2 ironclads behind the enemy lines.  Talk about your opponent panicking turn 1!  Tau and Guard cringe at that tactic. Now with all of the new formations in the Kayoun book there are some serious new combinations that make WS that much more flexible and competitive, even moreso that my old way of playing them.  What I love so much about Space Marines is there are so many different units and so many ways to play them!  The possibilities are endless!

Nice army! Great logo! I think everyone else has covered all the praise on the freehand.

Looking forward to more!

Thanks! Check out the Deredeo, just finished him this morning

I'm very curious what you did for the white arms on the bikers.

Are you asking about the freehand dragon or the blue wash? Or are you asking how I painted them white?

How the white was painted happy.png

I removed the arm and airbrushed it white. Those were some of the first models I painted so if I did it all over again I would probably (using airbrush) base coat them black, cover with medium sea grey and then highlight white. Then I'd wash with either nulin oil or my own blue again. The key though is to paint them separate and then attach after.
