Hey all

as you probably guessed this is going to be my WIP thread/plog thread.

**warning*** Im a little too lazy to properly capitalize and punctuate my posts so bear with me I like to type like im talking for these sorts of posts.

A little about me I guess. I've been playing warhammer 40k for a few years now on and off. I started with the pre-order of black reach so I could jump right into the game with a new edition. naturally I chose space marines because hey, who didn't at first. but time progressed I found space marines to be too bland so I began my search for a new army. I had purchased my models from ebay and hobby shops and spent little time on gw's website. one day while browsing their site for tau (I think in an "article when they still did that) I saw some guardsman models and instantly fell in love. after researching them intensely I decided that I was and forever will be a guardsman. to this day I cant see myself playing another race. my love Is for the guard, well lets be honest my love is for the inquisition (even have an inquisition tattoo)  but gw doesn't give them enough love so I settle for guard game wise.from the start I loved 40k and I loved the lore and the game but my passion has always been in building the models, not so much painting so be prepared for lots of highly converted but poorly painted, if painted at all, models.

I eventually sold my space marines for some imperial guardsmen and a rulebook and played with some buddies but never a tournament or anything as "professionsal" as that.  FLASH FOREWARD to about 2 years ago when I enlisted in the army. I decided that since I was going active duty in a combat mos that I didn't have time for such things and sold EVERYTHING. I know...heresy....but lately ive found some extra personal time and im starting back up from scratch. I just moved (anyone in Killeen/ft hood want to play?) and bought myself a small started deal off ebay to get back in the swing of things.  im mostly going to be using this deal (an amazing deal!!) to practice painting and techniques nd not so much in the game so I can have a solid force that's all painted to the same standard. heres what I got

about 35 shock troopers. all mostly built
4 heavy weapons teams. none built
forgeworld command squad. unbuilt
forgeworld techpriest. unbuilt
forgeword vets upgrade. unbuilt
forgeworld shock trooper upgrade. unbuilt
forgewolrd respirator upgrade. unbuilt
forgeworld elysian heads and grave chute. unbuilt

ALL FOR JUST 80 DOLLARS....80...DOLLARS!!

I also picked up an aegis defense line, some orders cards, a basing kit, and an orlock heavy (the model that got me into 40k to start)

heres the lot of them

Orlock heavy. ill wait until my painting skills improve to paint him up

http://i605.photobucket.com/albums/tt134/jaco331r/IMG_0116.jpg

and I just love this model. I think I may have to give my company commander a powerfist just so I can field him haha

http://i605.photobucket.com/albums/tt134/jaco331r/IMG_0118.jpg

and there ya go. my first WIP thread post. I don't have a color scheme in mind yet but Im thinking something desert-y or inquisition style red and black.

**also. are the pictures too big? should I resize them from now on?**

Welcome to the ranks! Or... re-welcome I guess since you've played guard before? I really like the heavy bolter conversion you did with the ammo clips, it looks great. I agree that that company commander is awesome, you should definitely use him! Perhaps you could take a close up of a painted model for us so we can see your colour scheme? I think the photos are fine, I like big ones because it is easier to see the details on the models. I prefer buying new models instead of new ones as that gives lots of customisation options, as well as lots of bitz for future conversions, although it's significantly more expensive.

Keep on posting any progress you make!

Damn that was a bargain! Looking forward to seeing these guys painted up - those FW models are fantastic.

It might be worth taking a file to some of the plastics guys before you get cracking though, some of them still have quite prominent mold lines.

hey guys just a small update I haven't done much this week. my tax returns came in and I bought almost an entire army ohmy.png I just have to pick up a hellhound a Valkyrie and 2 demolishers. ill take a picture of everything I got once its all been shipped. my local hobby shop does not sell demolishes that I've seen but next pay check ill probably run in and pick up the hellhound and Valkyrie and then with my total reward points get...a....SUPER HEAVY. naturally ill magnetize it as well. anyways so after this list is built ill probably make a few models that aren't in my army. I really want to make a squad of scions but use cadian torsos and respirators as well as a rough rider squad of space marine scout bikes, highly converted of course.

also I made a test color scheme. im not much of a painter and I need to work on the darker brown and mess around with some colors but here are two guys I made super fast, like in an hour fast. juts to test it out. (I tried a new way to take photos too)

http://i605.photobucket.com/albums/tt134/jaco331r/IMG_01521.jpg

I wanted a desert scheme and I don't like the "chocolate chip" pattern at all blech(...although I really like elmo's blog. hes done a good job, I still have no idea how to tag him) anyways I really want a subtle tan/brown with not a whole super ton of contrast. I think I achived that and I need to mess around with olors more just to contrast it a tiny bit more. ill also be adding various deep reds and some white to the models as well. the reds will probably be for squad designation and the white is for my storyline that they are part of an inquisition detachment and the veterans that have proved themselves but doing "acts of purity" will have pieces of white armor or weapons so that other guardsmen know how true they are to the god-emperor.

anyways theres that. have a good weekend ill update again once my stuffs are in.

cheers

$80.... $80... I hate you sooo much right now!

That is a great collection of models and I am looking forward to what you do with all of them.

How could you not like Chocochips?? No, it's ok as I can understand that it was not the most effective pattern ever brought into service or the quickest to paint (although I am working at another 15 as I type).

I must admit that although you are not doing chocochips your tester models have come out really well. They have that dusty, worn look that I would expect after a hard fight in the sand. Keep it up but watch out for the mould lines especially on the boots and arms.

Thanks elmo! I really just used these two models as a test subject. I have a bunch of guys in the mail and once I actually get to build them I'm going to take the time to do it right and remove the mold lines and make sure they're all cleaned up

The scheme looks good to me, nice and gritty so I don't think you need to do any more with it unless you want to :) A camouflage scheme is something you need to make sure you're happy with before adding it to the army - not just the appearance and colours but also how you do it, so you can replicate it without too much effort :tu: I want to see more models painted! Especially the ones the tax man paid for ;)

Alright guys here comes a HUGE update. I got 90% of my models in the mail delivered along with some extras. and on top of that I bought some things from my local hobby shop but we'll get to that later.

anyways heres what I got in terms of tax returns for those of you wondering

set 1

cadian defense force (not pictured because it got delayed in the snow storms up north)
the rule book set (all three books because im a sucker for fluff and showcasing)
astra mili-imperial guard codex
various paints, basing items, and tools
magnets and drill bits to match
sexy inquisition dice bag
templates
125 mechanicum dice pack off ebay

http://i605.photobucket.com/albums/tt134/jaco331r/d0ff0fe8-60a5-4daf-96db-c8a792629d8c.jpg

set 2

cadian battleforce
Valkyrie
2 sentinels (total of 3)
hellhound

http://i605.photobucket.com/albums/tt134/jaco331r/IMG_01831.jpg

my hobby shop didn't have anymore baneblades and are backordered so I settled for something just as necessary. a battlefoam pack go with full pluck foam loadout.

http://i605.photobucket.com/albums/tt134/jaco331r/IMG_01841.jpg

so theres that. I just need my defense force to come in this weekend and I need two demolishers then ill have a full 1850 list to keep my occupied.

on a different note all together I also had picked up a chimera for cheap and painted it up. I didn't take any pictures in progress but I have completed ones.

this was a big step in my 40k career with lots of firsts like
first 40k vehicle built
firt vehicle painted
first time using weathering powder
first time using gw spray paints

I think it turned out quite well. a little light un top and I may have gone crazy with the powders because I was so overcome with the machine spirit. I need to go back and really smooth out the white (I didn't notice how sloppy it was until I saw the picture) and touch up a couple places

http://i605.photobucket.com/albums/tt134/jaco331r/IMG_01781.jpg
http://i605.photobucket.com/albums/tt134/jaco331r/IMG_01801.jpg

im really content with this paint scheme and ive decided that its what im sticking with. now all I need is a name of some sort a few days and a lot of gluemsn-wink.gif

cheers
