The Doom Slayers are from an unknown founding, although they are recorded as being an Ultramarines successor. Their Chapter badge is a stylized white wing and lightning bolt with a blue skull on a blue background. Their color scheme follows the same pattern as the Marines Malevolent with the distinction of being blue and black.

Thanks brothers!

Dolchiate Rememberancer: l drew the chapter badge with a pen. Its a play on the Marines Malevolent and Rainbow Warriors/Death Strike Chapters and the Angels of Absolution. I plan on cleaning it up in Photoshop and Illustrator and making my own decals. I'll change it to white and blue when I create the print file.

Olis: thanks brother, I will definitely be stopping by the Liber at some point soon in the project. As a recovering Blood Angel fanatic for the past two decades, I am looking forward to developing a radically different chapter culture. More the greek mythology and rogue trader psychopath criminal style instead of what the BA have become today. No offense to the blood brothers, really after 20 years of GW, I just decided I finally wanted to create the chapter I had invisioned as a little kid when I first painted my little plastic beakies black and blue with evil red eyes.

Thanks for checking it out. More later.

Good to hear. By the look of your chapter master, have you ever considered some sort of shared lineage with the Executioners? Perhaps a descendance from them?

Actually, better yet, why not explore these questions in the Liber. ^_^

BionicBrain, sockwithaticket: Thanks brothers, I appreciate the comments.

Warlord Torvold: Here ya go!

med_gallery_65363_7458_43085.jpg

Biohazard: Thanks dude! That helmets pretty cool, would make for a good World Eater. I don't think you've used it yet. :cool.: Congrats on the little one!

Olis: I can definitely see the Executioners symbology as well, but I also see a lot of other things in the model. When I was in the process on deciding on what direction I wanted to go, and this took like years, I thought about the idea of creating an obscure chapter that got its lineage from a successor chapter. I even came across the Iron Champs, a successor of the Executioners. It's a cool idea. But the Doom Slayers are Ultramarines. This will play a huge part in their background. I also want them to have a Rogue Trader feel, so their origins need to stay as vanilla as possible so I can twist their current pathos. Their story will be told!!! I just got to paint the little psychopaths first.

The Doom Slayers would have approved of the Wardian Space Marine Codex. They are right there with Ward. They see all other chapters/legions as something less then Ultramarine. And of course they see themselves as better then any other Ultra successor because of their own deeds. Their direct descent from the Ultramarines grants them a great sense of arrogance and hubris. So there's a little more background for you. Let me know how that sounds.

Of course this type of attitude can only lead to more and more tabletop war.

With Odysseus Cerberus (counts as Dante) this is the current force that I want to build with this WIP thread. I have about five troops from various squads built and base coated. I also have one of the Stormravens primed and off the sprue. I still have a ton of work, but this is the general direction going forward.

Decals. Totally awesome experience to make my own Chapter badge. I think they turned out alright. It was quite a process but a lot of fun. A couple of pictures, no highlights on anything yet. Thanks for checking it out. There is only war!!!!

If you feel they should be from the Ultramarines and it plays well into further plans, then by all means pursue that direction. With the arrogance and hubris, do they themselves see it like that or are they more self righteous than what others think they are? How did this arrogance come about, and why has it persisted? If they believe themselves to be second only to the Ultramarines, then you'll have explore the reasoning behind it and the consequences of it. :)

Brother Tyrax: Glory and Hate, brother!

Deathspectersgt7: Thanks brother. I have been rather bad at posting as a lurker here for some time, but I follow your awesome thread.

Biohazard: heh, looking forward to seeing what you do with it. Owl and Moon Guy originally used it on a dev sgt for his Angels Sanguine a number of years ago.

The_Chaplain: Thanks brother. I bought a twelver of pale ale and a couple of frozen pizzas for the weekend, so hopefully I will have some more stuff painted by the end of the weekend.

Brother Galfridus: Thanks man. It was quite a process and I used a lot of foul language to get through it.

First of all I came up with the sketch and used photoshop to create a print file. I used the lasso tool and the fill to block it in and create the hard edges as a high rez raster image.

I used the Testors white decal sheets and my inkjet printer. Let that dry for a couple of hours so the ink settles and then spray it with Testors decal bonder spray and let that dry over night, otherwide the ink comes off when you put them in water.

I then cut them out and put little divits in a bunch of places on the edges so they would wrap around the model without creasing. I applied them with water and then microsol solution to soften them. Let em dry completely so the edges shrink down on the surface. Put ardcoat over them especially around the edges to fill the gap as much as I could.

I used macragge blue and fenris grey and just kind of colored them in to blend the ink to the rest of the model. Kind of like a stencil or tiny coloring book, but the hard edges are the decal. Lots of cussing.

Dragonlover: Heh, well these guys are pushing renegade status if that makes you feel better about it. They still hate chaos, and aliens, and mutants, and everyone else. The death company will be marked with hazard stripes on their right shoulder pad for squad designation. They will be made up of the worst and the meanest of the bunch, but no visions of Sanguinious or anything. Just the best combat-drugs the chapter apothecary has to offer.

Olis: Thank you brother, your questions are awesome. The Doom Slayers are Ultramarines in name only. They are a fleet based chapter, understrength and constantly at war. The usual. Odysseus' only concern is to keep them in battle. Over the centuries much of the teachings and structure have been lost. The codex is no longer as strictly adhered to, because the chapter is ignorant to it and the leadership does not care if it doesn't serve an imediate purpose. They only use whats left if it serves their interests at the moment. The chapter culture is rotting, the words and intent twisting. Perhaps to others they are not as noble and heroic as they see themselves. Perhaps their faith is in a state of deteriorating or only strained for the time. Maybe they have an idea of this, or know this about themselves, but they don't speak about it. They are Ultramarines. They are Doom Slayers. There is only war. The claim to ultramarine lineage is an entitlement. They are beyond question, criminals with high credentials, sanction. But this is acceptable within the Imperial war machine and there is bloodshed, or it is not excepted and there is more bloodshed. So in 40k, because it is a setting, there is a background history based on ignorance, and a present m.39.99.9 like a snapshot at the end of time, and the Doom Slayers are loyal but dirty, in freefall but not fallen. The details, the records are obscure in clues. The Doom Slayers are shadowy. They tend to get lost in actions, "chapter status unknown" and what can happen in these gaps in the logs and databases is beyond recall. The fog of war. The seeds of doubt. Glory and hate. For the Emperor. We are Doom Slayers, sons of Guilliman. There is only war. Say these things enough and they will be true. This is faith.

That's all I got for now. I'll pass it back to you if you want to keep going. I think we are all pretty hardcore fans of the fluff here. Thanks brothers. I'm going to go drink and paint for awhile. Stay tuned.

This sounds like there is an issue with their hypno-indoctrination methods, brother. As the chapter has been left to use their own reasoning rather than follow presets left to them by their forebearers, whatever ingrained cultural identity from their homeworld (which would be desperate, dirty and bloody if this line of thought is pursued) has seeped in and 'poisoned' the way they think. They recall the honour of being chosen but the reality of being one of the Emperor's angels of death is one they didn't expect. So they cling to the old chapter concepts of honour and glory and strive to be everything that they are supposed to be. Just what that is, well, is subject to individual interpretation for each astartes. For most it'll involve killing. For others it might simply be preserving the old legacy that's obviously crumbling away with each generation.

It's a collection of psychopaths trying to live up to what the chapter used to be. This is why the name of the chapter is seen to be beyond reproach by the brethren - to sully it's name would be to sully it's memory. They were the best. The are the best. Only their father-Legion can be seen in a higher regard by the Doom Slayers.

This chapter is showing true promise, I think.

With this quote (especially the bold part) and your comment to Brother Tyrax, I had an idea and would like to make a suggestion. Perhaps the Doom Slayers are upholders of the Nikaea Edict, like the Marines Malevolent? In this perspective, the brothers would believe that Psykers are not to be trusted at all and suffer the use of Navigators and Astropaths with great contempt. As such they neither field nor recruit Psykers, which means no Librarians, and treat those with Psychic abilities with bitter scorn at best and (supposedly cleansing) bodily harm/mutilation at worst. Perhaps some of this could be a hold-over from their homeworld beliefs and practices...

Of course, with a precedent set by the Marines Malevolent, the Doom Slayers would become pariahs to many other Imperial agencies and worlds in the Imperium that know about them. Their words and deeds don't necessarily match (the advocation of excellence while basically behaving like Imperialist Night Lords) and their word may not be their bond. They are not to be trusted. But they still take bolt and blade to the enemies of mankind, and for some that is enough.

Let me know if you like any of that. :happy.:

Thanks for showing a pic of the jump pack Radiation.  Been a way from the forums for a bit or would of commented earlier.  I like the idea that your chapter isn't the noble hero type that the Ultra's claim to be.  In my mind they have a gritty anti-hero feel kinda like Spawn or Frank Castle.  They do bad things to bad people because bad people deserve bad things done to them.  That is just my take on what you have put forward so far.  I'm interested in reading more about your Doom Slayers.
