Thanks for all of your comments and suggestions. I was going for a stone gargoyle look for the wings. Painting them black did not occur to me but I can now see how it would make the rest of the model pop. Once I get my vow for the Covenant of Caliban done I will have to look into those black wings.
Speaking of the Covenant of Caliban... I was concerned that I may not be able to complete my vow but after tonight's session I think the deadline will not be an issue. I have a few pieces left to highlight and varnish before applying the rest of the decals. I applied the Citadel 'Ard Coat for surface prep for decals and I liked how it looked with the layered reds. I wanted a more maroon color so it would match my GotC robes but I really like the result that I am getting. It makes me think of an oil rubbed finish over the weathered and worn red. It is only on the red surfaces and not on the metal trim.
I am going to have to do something about those crossed swords, they look to bright and shiny. Any suggestions?

Very nice work mate. Just goes to show that even by keeping the colour pallet relatively simple you can produce a quality-looking Knight!!! I need to tell myself this, as mine has the metals all done but I've been procrastinating over the armour colours for well over a year lol
2 thumbs up!

Hey Raz, you know that my knight started off in the same way. I got the box and ripped it open as soon as I got home. I got all the metal framework done and then it sat. You can see its previous state in the before picture. I just could not decide on the color until I saw Tygwyn's red knight and then I was hooked for a color scheme. It was too far along for the ETL but this competition was perfect to get it done!
What colors are you thinking of for your knight?

That's the thing ... I'm just not sure. Originally when I only had Deathwing I was tempted to do a primarily bone colour, but now I've been lured into the Power Armour scene, I'm thinking a Black and Bone mix, with a few DA Green accents. I also want to try and throw some chequer markings in there, with the larger surface area of the shoulders it should be easier. All I know is that before I can attempt any further painting, I must get the kitchen done!!! If I fail to do that, I will be learning to paint with no hands!!!

As for the crossed swords, maybe just try a simple wash, probably black. Just to dull it down a bit. Are you planning on adding weathering and/ or battle damage? That'll definitely help to break up that white

Raztalin, you better get the kitchen done. That way you can be sure of your color scheme! Go for red!
Greenz, just put the knight on your Christmas list! If you are lucky, you could get the Renegade boxed set before all of the in store copies are gone! No? What colors are you thinking? I hear that red looks pretty sharp. I tried some Nuln Oil over the decals with pretty good results. Thanks for the tip! I had to apply more varnish on the top to give it a uniform surface finish. It looks much better now. I think some subtle weathering is needed. I am trying for a rough and seasoned look to it. I think I will have to try making the feet a little dirty too. As far as battle damage goes, I find it difficult to scratch up the pretty paint.
The knight is almost done! I just have the dangle banner left and that has been a challenging decision for its contents. Here is a teaser pic! I will post more tomorrow when I have some natural light to work with. The hardest thing that I have done in this hobby is the decal work for those monster shoulder pads. The skeleton aquilla was not that bad but that first skull made me sweat. I had only one set so there was no room for error. C&C is welcome!

Damn, those are some sexy decals. Where did you get them from? Great stuff man, time to find me one of those Renegade boxes.

The decals shoulder pad decals come from the IK box. The swords on the hatch are DA swords cut from the decal sheets. It took a few tries to get them cut out right. Wait until you see the armour panels for the legs!

I do have a knight on my wish list, but it's a bit further down. My 2nd company needs some attention first. Not sure on a colour scheme yet. I want to start an IG army as a side project, winter themed and will probably tie it in with my marines, so the knight will have to match both armies

I'm with Greenz. I may have to budget a knight purchase soon. Fantastic work on such a huge model!

Thanks everyone for your comments and suggestions! I am happy to say that my vow is complete and ahead of schedule too. The biggest choices have been what decals to place on it and where. I liked the look of the marking on the House Knights but this guy was going to be a Freeblade. I started with the Obsidian Knight markings and modified it from there. I had to do something different with the hatch and I think the swords and the 7 9. I don't have a full fluffy story for the markings but I am sure I will come up with something. I used a lot of swords from the DA icons. Decals are always more work than I expect but they really finish the model. So without further ado I present Sir Bucharus Dolven, Sworn Blade to the Guardians of the Covenant!
And here is Lothar with an assault squad.

Dark Angel player for just over a year (this time - played in 2nd Ed too!)
Developing, mixed 4000 or so points, still nothing that I call "a finished Army" yet.
Always looking for a game in my local area - let me know if you are near Andover, Hants, UK and fancy playing someone easy to beat!

Thank you for all of your comments! Now all that I have to do is get them on the table at some point!
The big question is, what to do next? I am thinking of a jump pack assault squad in proper GotC colors to escort Lothar onto the battlefield. I am also thinking scouts for Kill Team games. I have a few list ideas that may have to get pushed to the lists forum.

The finished knight is even more stunning. It's taking some willpower to not run out and buy a knight! Your champion turned out incredibly well; the pose really works.

Thanks, FC!
Greenz, I have a squad primed and ready for paint. There are 5 snipers and one heavy bolter. All of them have camo cloaks. I picked these guys up used so there is not much choice in load out. I was thinking a good scout load out for a kill team would be 2 bolters, 2 snipers and the missile launcher. This team would not have the camo cloaks in order to conserve points. Would you happen to know if the ML is in the bolter scout kit? The big question is a paint scheme for my GotC scouts. I am not a fan of bright or shiny colors on scouts. You know what this means? Paint a test piece!
I do have a 10 man assault squad on the assembly line. I am using the old kits since I already had them. There will be two extras with flamers so I can sub them out if needed. The sergeant will be getting a power axe for some 4x AP2 assault goodness on the charge!

As for the paint scheme, instead of silver being the main colour, try gray. Then maybe mute down the red accents, or dirty them up with some brown wash to match your bases a bit better. Or forgo the red altogether and just use gray and black? Test mini time!
Edit: half asleep and not making sense
