Space Wolfes by Adam - WIP Thread

Recommended Posts

Hi!

So as I have been suggested, I'm starting my own WIP thread. You can find the link to my original plog in my signature.

So, I started work on a lone wolf, and wanted to paint him better than my other terminators so far. I browsed around, and got really inspired with Tommies works:

So here it is, my first attempt in painting in this new style. Any comments/advice greatly appreciated smile.png

(I did 2 pics, 1 with flash and the other without)

So I posted the finished Lone Wolf in my HoH thread:

I had some more WIP pics taken, unfortunately, I deleted them by accident.

I started work on my next Lone Wolf, and hopefully I will post more step by step pics.

Here are the first, after basing with GW The Fang and drybrushing with Russ Grey. Next will come a wash with a diluted Drakenhof Nightshade.

Here are the next stages. As for the recipe - after giving a general wash of the armour with diluted Drakenhof Nightshade, I add more of it where I decide the shade will be deeper, and then I highlight with diluted Fenrisian Grey and White Scar. I even up some imperfections with diluted Russ Grey, to achieve a better blend.

Important notice: I dilute the respective paints with Lahmian Medium to the consistency of milk, I don't know the exact proportions.

Here we go:

Well, its hard for me to say exactly how I do the armour. More or less it goes like this:

Phase 1 - base The Fang, thorough dry brush Russ Gray, and thorough wash with mix of Lahmian Medium and Drakenhof Night Shade.

Phase 2 (important: all paints used in this phase are thinned down to the consistency of milk) - go down with Drakenhof Nightshade (the same mix as in phase 1), and then go up with Russ Grey, Fenrisian Grey and White Scar.

The breakthrough in my painting was seeing this thread, where Tommie Soule showed his own terminators:

Only after seeing this I understood where the light should go, and how big the contrast should be. So it's hard for me to tell you exactly how to do the highlight properly, it needs some practice to get there. Also, it helps to have the paints already thinned down in separate bottles.
