KBA's Heresy Thread

Good work there KBA. That tank is cute!

Haha thanks Col. It's got that WWI, Grot Tank thing going for it, I feel. I thought having non-truescaled marines next to it might tone the cuteness down. Nope :)

Entered in to the BA sub forum kitbash challenge :)

This entry will be my first foray into 30K Blood Angels allies for my Sons of Horus. Onto a pic!

WIP:

Axe positioning may not be final. I need to GS some blood drops here and there as well, but he's coming along.

Although I think you did a cracking job on the truescale guys I think you made the right decision going with the regular sized marines. Heresy especially has a lot of vehicle options and it soon goes from I made ten guys to ok so now I have to make an up scaled Rhino, now I need a bigger Land Raider to go with them, etc. True-scaling is a harsh mistress at times... What I'd suggest is make them as a side project to your main army.

I really like what you are doing with the Blood Angel, great use of parts. What I would be inclined to do with the axe is turn it so his palm is facing outwards and the axe is pointing in the other direction.

Keep up the good work, these are looking great. :tu:

Dabbling in True Scale really made me appreciate the work you dedicated scalers do that much more. Definitely not a bad idea making the true scale thing a side project. I've got to paint the stuff I've already finished that's for sure.

And thanks all for the praise of the angel. The axe... my gf had the same reaction, along with some frater in the bake off thread. I was afraid the look would be a little too Celestine, but I should probably embrace the pose as I'm borrowing so much of the feel from her and sanguinor anyway. I'll mull it over :)

Personally, I'd rotate the axe-hand so the flat head of the axe is showing the opposite side to the one we see atm. Not sure how feasible that is, though. ^_^

Alternate axe positioning:

Gonna need some GS in that wrist. Not sure what I prefer personally. This option is definitely more awe-inspiring, and as a shock-and-awe legion, that appeals to me. There was a 'quiet brutality' to the first option that I quite enjoyed though.

It's the waist that's rotated a bit in that last shot that's making things look a little goosey. The left foot is stock and unmodified.

WIP, guys ;). This guys far from finished, far from glued and set in place. Uncooperative Blu tac for WIP shots can make a man go crazy!

That left foot needs to be kicked out about 10-15 degrees as he appears to have a cleft gait as he is;)

So much love for the 'come hither my children so I might smite thee' pose!!

I think it's the right leg that could be tweaked to open the legs a little. But this is talking semantics, as it's already amazing.

The axe head is a bit to big for my taste but that's just me. The model is spectacular though.

Yep, I am inclined to agree that the axe head is a little large.  I do think it works in the previous pose though because it gives the impression that he's going to enjoy floating in angelic pose for one more second....before grabbing it with his other open palmed hand and start cleaving heathens in half.

Seriously, I was breathless seeing it the first time.  Well converted brother.  Could we get some additional angle shots please? I'd love to see the hybridized backpack.

No, it's not just you. The model is a fantastic conversion, but the massive, clunky ace head really distracts from the otherwise excellent composition. I too would suggest either switching the axe to the other hand or replacing it with a somewhat less massive weapon. Apart from that, however, fantastic work!

Thanks for the kudos guys. To kick off talk on axe head size, I do want to mention the size is being exasperated by the outward angle of the weapon slightly pointing toward the camera. Future example shots will show paint the picture a little better.

That was what I had loved about the first positioning. The weight of the axe and the suggested movements about to come.

I tend to agree with you, but the lure of the giant, brutal axe head juxtaposed with the angelic pose just summed up what I was going for with my angels. I had lined up a ton of weapon options for this guy, and at the end of the post I'll do a line up shot of the different heads, and then some shots of the weapons on the body :)

Looking at it now, the massive axe throws it off.

Can you move the head closer to his hand? That would keep the bulk of the model centralised, or get rid of the second head on teh axe.

I don't want to mess with the shaft length as I want it to convey two-handedness, but here are some alternate axe/weapon heads I had in mind:

Option A:

This is the axe head from the Assault Company Master figure from a few years back. It's essentially a smaller version of what I had originally concocted.

Option C:

This next one is from Astorath. I love how 40K Blood Angels it is. Not sure about it for 30K but it's growing on me.

Option F:

This one is the spear head from the Minotaur Terminator. Pretty cool looking, and alters the flavor again

Option H:

The popular tribune weapon.

Option J:

Last one! This one is tons of awesome -- a 30K MK II/III heavy chain blade. Could look great in the previous axe positioning as well.

As you guys can see, there's a lot of weapon options here. Luckily, the challenge doesn't end for quite some time, so I can mull these over. Last shot is one of the forward angle of the weapon I had mentioned. This is making every weapon option seem a little bigger than it actually is:

After looking over these in succession, Options A,C, and F all flow pretty well. Editing out some of the ones that are becoming a no for me.
