It's a great conversion, but my first thought was "That's so adorable aswell as deadly!" :P

That being said, I still want one :D

Haha I definitely understand the sentiment!. Too many times while hacking and chopping I thought about the cuteness of this build. But hey, the WWII Sherman is pretty cute, so to emulate that in this tank is a success I'd wager :). I'd like to build a couple more to round out a squadron

Got the base coat down plus a little shading :)

A little highlighting:

I bought a new compressor for my airbrush and it's given me WAY more control. Can't believe what I was running before having opened up my new one. Suffice it to say: I love painting now :)

That's looking decidedly Sons of Horus-y :D

And great as well!

You bet!

The Khan Scout Tank STC, much like the Leman Russ Battle Tank, was named in honor of the Primarch after Forge World Rygaard requested aid while under xenos siege to several legions. An expeditionary fleet comprised mainly of White Scars answered the call. The rest, as you say, is history, and the Khan Scout Tank began to appear in small numbers in several Legions during the Great Crusade. The Sosn of Horus were among that number :)

Which compressor did you get?? I've got my eye on a paasche d3000r right now so I can paint indoors and have more control than my pancake compressor in the shed;)

Love the Khan 'mini tank' ... I'm really liking the Deimos sides on the alpha body... thinking about other conversions based on that config- would love to see a vindicator

The one I went with was:

Love the thing. My airbrush is iwata as well, no complaints there, but my old compressor was junk. Saw it at Michael's a couple months ago for 50% off and couldn't say no.

Back to the basics.

Over the last couple of days I've been thinking about the direction I've been taking in the hobby, mainly my obsession with tinkering the scale of marines. Making them bigger, taller, more in line with the art, etc. I started out using Henriech's method of lengthening the legs, but eventually found that too tedious and the result a little too lanky for me. I switched over to Doghouse's method of using Terminator parts, but eventually felt discouraged by the lack of distinct Armor marks -- not to mention the bigger, bulkier marine base further throwing off the scale of the tanks. Such a balancing act. Such a headache I had let it become.

So I decided to work with the range. Accept its shortcomings in scale and have fun. And you know what? It's freedom.

The only height tinkering going on here is a little bit of GS between the legs and torso, covered by the additional gear. Had a lot of fun building these guys. Love that MK II armor! :)

I can see the appeal of returning, and as someone who was enamoured with the idea of true/art/upscaling originally, I think it's more sensible to work with the range and just enjoy what we've got to play with in terms of interchangeability, posing, specific marks of armour and upgrades.

All of my respect to the truescalers as well, I just feel it works best for one-offs and dioramas, unless you've got the perseverence (single-minded dedication?) of Doghouse and Apologist :D

I have admired some true scaling work for the patience of you who do it, but in the end I have always prefered just to go with the scale given by GW/FW, it is so liberating.

Looking forward to seeing you paint that sweet sweet MK II.

For years I've been fighting against the tide of true/art/whatever scalers saying that the only real adjustments the marines need is a longer torso and thicker legs. I will admit that I have seen some good work by some of these folks, but the ones with the added height solely in the legs looks very weird to me. And even for us folks that are pretty handy with the GS, building an entire army like that would get so tedius and old... even for people that work a lot faster than I do.

Now, if I had the setup to cast my own converted parts, that would be a different story.

Look what a little more height in the torso did for your figures! They look great. Maybe try a little more bulk in the upper legs next? You beat me in one of Grotsmasha's conversion challenges so I know you have the skill. ;)

Gorgeous. That's why MKII is my favorite mark of power armor (which reminds me that I should order some, at some point...)

It's odd, but I'm actually somewhat glad to see you stop truescaling. As much as I admire those who go through the trouble of doing, there is something to be said for the good ol' normal Space Marine range. Perhaps it's merely the fact that it's the common currency among our type of hobbyist: simply put, more people deal in the standard scale than truescale, and there is an ease of inspirational exchange I personally feel when viewing other's normal Astartes models than truescale projects...perhaps that's just me, though. Whatever the case, they look lovely. :)

You know I have been plagued by the same dilemma for ages. I think for stuff like inquisitor the doghouse style is perfect as it really helps with the character. But a whole army is to much. I admire those who can do it, like Apoligist, it's fantastic to see but it's not something I will do regularly. I'll probably still do some led and torso extensions but cutting it down does make things quicker.

Anyway that's me. Your stuff still looks great glad to see more coming from you.

How in Throne's name did you get the piping on the front of the Mk2 so clean? In awe, sir!

I spread some GS out on a flat surface and got it as even as possible then pushed one side of my tube making tool into it. Once cured, I used a metal ruler and an X-Acto to cut it to the desired shape.

I did the same thing with much thicker GS to make some Mk V legs for a conversion.

ooks sharp.

I know what you mean about the truescaling; sooo time intensive. I used basic marine parts as a frame and chopped and added plastic card and green stuffed the bulk, but even working in a tidy production line I was looking at 2 weeks for a model.

Now I'm just adding about 2mm where I put the torso/legs together and just neaten up the groin piece which stretches out the proportions nicely enough to distort the eye.

Yes, respect to those on either side of the True-Scaling isle. Some of my favorite blogs are from those who completely eschew adding any height at all, while others are strictly true-scale.

A little bit of scenery:

And a little bit of paint:

Almost done with my Khan scout tank, which has been a fun ride. Need that front weapon done, highlights, weathering, and transfers yet.

The manufactorum is more of a pump station/refinery of sorts in my mind. My gf commented it looked 'like Bowser's castle'. Praise to my ears. I'll be making a Mechanicum character who runs the sector.

Very nice manufactorum, may i ask how many of what kits went into it as i'm thinking of making an intact building or two to compliment all the ruins i've got. I can see it's at least 4 manufactorum ruins kit and a promethius pipeline set, is that all?

I dunno if it's just me, but I cannae see yer photos, m8.

Switched over to photobucket. Hope they're visible now.

As far as the number of kits go, I think it was 4. And 1 and 1/2 relay pipe kits. I also bought some 90' bent pipe off bitz stores. The building itself isn't entirely undamged though:

The green stuff needs work yet, and some of the structure hasn't even been glued together, but I'm looking forward to giving this a quick and dirty scenery paint job.

Finished the Khan Scout Tank. I'm pretty proud of it, or rather, of finishing it within a month's time. Warm up for an ETL redemption? We'll see. Also made a light box! No more shots of crappy rug or using my couches as neutral backgrounds. Lastly, the base coats are done on the first 5 veterans. I'm pretty excited to start some infantry after the tank. Now to the pics!
