The Wardens of Light retreated onto the mountainside. The attack of the wolves had taken its toll. Both fast and menacing, the unprepared Wardens were cut down by heavy fire raining from the sky with the Wolves sinking their teeth into the survivors. Gilad and his squad managed to surprise some Wolves and overwhelm them, taking their weapons to replace their own that were long spent. From his squad, only 4 members had survived the onslaught. They escaped the city where the main attack had occurred, passing dozens of broken bodies of the inhabitants. Inhabitants whom a few hours ago were celebrating the arrival of the Wardens of Light and their civilizations integration into the Imperium of Mankind.

However it had all been in vain and their lifeless eyes sentenced the surviving wardens for their failure.

Gilad pressed forward hoping to hide in the mountains, evading the Wolves until they left the planet. It was a sliver of a chance but it was the only option they had....

-----

The Wolves had followed the Wardens trail, with every minute the pack drew closer, ready to end their prey. Jorrik Snøwolf was tasked to bring their heads to his primarch and always completed his tasks in full. A few metres above him the golden armor of those that had lost the way of the Imperium were finally visible. He activated his lightning claw and drew his sword from its scabbard, speeding up his pace until he was in full sprint. The banner bearer was the closest to him and Jorrik could already smell the fear of the soulless.

----

Gilad turned and saw a giant in grey armor sprinting towards them. Besides the primarchs he was the biggest man Gilad had ever seen. With long strides the Wolf soon closed the distance between them. Brom the banner bearer was the slowest and first to fall. He turned around firing his boltgun towards the enemy but the giant Wolf leapt forward, plunging his sword into the wardens throat. With blood gushing from the grievous wound, Broms legs collapsed and the bearer fell to his knees, still keeping himself upright with the banner.

The wolf drew a colossal mace from his back and with a single swing struck brother Kane onto the rocks crushing all his bones. Brother Nengam fell right after, torn apart by lightning claw.

His brothers all fell in an instant and now Gilad was alone. He fired a salvo of shots with his bolt and plasma pistols but couldn't hit his pursuer. The Wolf hammered the mace into his chest crushing his ribcage, a second hit splintering the mask of the Warden and cracking his skull. Gilad perished with a final blow, the lightning claw piercing the Wardens armor and pinning the body into the snow beneath him.

----

Jorrik Snøwolf knelt above his prey, waiting for the rest of his pack to arrive as there were more Wardens to hunt. And on that day the Wardens of Light were purged from history.

Wow... just wow... After you whining so much about your painting ruining your models I was expecting worse... This is awesome brother, maybe you got too excited when applying blood ;), but everything else looks great! Seriously, specially in the last pic where you get to see the whole piece together it is really impressive!

PHENOMENAL WORK MIKHAL! Love how you've given such a vivid story to your model! The fallen wardens look great and the addition of snow and blood really show off the brutality of the purge. Definitely looking forward to seeing you paint some more stuff in the future cause your painting is greater than you give yourself credit for! Well done brother, was a privilege to work with you in the challenge!

Thx man. But if I were a better painter, then I wouldn't have made the mistake and coated all with matte varnish. It totally destroyed the blood effect so I had to apply it again, resulting in more blood on the minis^^.

Next time I will remember.

  • 5 weeks later...

Throughout the Insurrection, Alexandros is sending petitions, missives, and outright pleas for Gwal to return to the Imperium. Now, while Gwal obviously rejects all but the last one, Alexandros does try to ask for lesser favors. Early on in the Insurrection, when there are instances of independent rebellions in Seg. Pacificus, Alexandros asks if the Wardens of Light would at least restore order, siding neither with the Traitors or the Loyalists. ...though by putting down the rebellions, Alexandros would be in position to quickly re-establish Imperial rule.

How does Gwal react to this request?

He would send small detachements to soothe the problems and restore order or the wardens would to it as it does not go againsts Gwalchavads last known wishes. Gwal himself is hidden in a cloud of mystery, the torment done to him from travier had a high price.

Excellent, that'll cut Hectarion's eastern campaign by a third.

One more question. Xana. If information suggesting cruel and dark practices were taking place there was 'leaked' to Caerbannog, would Gwal or the Wardens of Light mobilize to stop Xana's evil?

Wjere exactly is xana. We have different factions inside of the wardens. The majority follow the last known wishes of gwal. " return home" don't fight each other" but there are those like cap kylan oder scorpion who would take action and get reprimanded for it.

But i have to know more about xanas evil to make an exact answer

Xana is in the far Galactic west. At the time of the Xana incurrsion, they hadn't necessarily commited a massive evil (they had forges manned by slave labour but let's be honest what forge world doesn't?), but they had agreed to an alliance with Horus, supplying materiel in exchange for thousands of Astartes bodies to experiment with (along with war machines to salvage etc)

It's described as "on the very far tip of the western fringe". It's supposed to be on the edge of the galactic void. So, I theorized that it was the very edge of Pacificus, about a distance north of Caerbannog. Looking at Grifft's map, however, it might actually be on the edge of Tempestus, directly south of Obsailes in the Veiled Region.

So, I'm not sure anymore if that last question matters anymore.

More questions. Blunt reminded me about the Grey Wardens. I'd like some details. One, are they still a thing? Two, if they are, when do they break away from the Legion? Three, who is their commander? Four, how many Wardens are involved? Five, do they count as an Insurgo?

Hello again. So many questions.

First..of course they are still a thing.( although the don't call themselves so before the end of the terran siege) They break away after captain kylan was exciled to the night guard and returned after he saw the truth if chaos. He was accomagnied by the scorpion and others who wanted to help the nightguard. Primarily terram wardens who still feel a deep connection to terra. And the scorpion is the leader of the grey wardens. Actually they split around the time of the blood crusade. After they witness the truth they return to caerbannog and beg to Gwal to join them. But still can't open his eyes to the truth.

Guaire is not the leader of the "Grey Wardens". In Broverse he is absolute loyal to Gwalchavad and shares his ideal ( what a bomb in your face can do to you)

Do they count as Insurgos? Hmm. They could if needed. They see themselves as Wardens of Light. Defenders of the Imperium against the onmarching darkness. When Gwalchavad dispatches the legion, says that the wardens don't exist anymore, the followers of kylan and Scorpion paint their armor grey and call themselves Grey Wardens.

On Terra you have 2 colorschemes. The followers.of Scorpion with the traditional Gold and blue and those who stayed at Gwals side until Alex draw him back : Gold and Black, because Blaxk symbolizes the darkness war brings.

Of course if we need an additional Insurgo, we can alter them and make the Grey Wardens a thing during the blood crusade who accompagny the Nightguard on Cadia. Amd the refer to themselves already as Grey Wardens because they left the light of their primarch for example.

No. All retreat back to Caerbannog after the day of revelation. They were unsure what to do. Their primarch in devasted condition. In his fever rambling that thiis shouldn happen.and that brother should not fight brothet. But there were.those who wanted to take action. They opened the caerbannog corridor and escorted every ship which arrived

Bit too many arrived.with death passengers or only destroyed ships came out of the warp. Which led the young kylan to hunt down the raider astartes. When he returned the meesters had to judge over him and there Gwalchavad showed himself.for the.first time.in years among his sons and sent Kylan to the Nightguard who asked for support because the warp got.lively. Scorpion and many others wemt with Kylan because sitting around and seeing day after day yhe destroyed ships depressed them.

But that means the Wardens will just be dealing with some Warp stuff. I'd like to have some Wardens active in the war relatively early - the Legion are some of our biggest poster boys, and it seems a shame to keep them back while we wheel out all the others.
