The poor lighting muddies up their faces a bit, but the main point was to see the eyes ;)

Here's an update on my progress. All that's left are some minor details like faces, gems, weapon cowlings, and bases.

Apparently one of my Death Guard, sans bolter, photo-bombed the picture :laugh.:. Expect the final pictures of these pseudo-Chaplains in the next few hours.

As an aside: I'm so tired. So very tired...

Well, once again the lovely powers that be (combined with poor dry fitting, evidently) have screwed me over.

http://bolterandchainsword.com/uploads/gallery/album_6916/gallery_38474_6916_27509.jpg

These two guys barely fit together.  The new arms don't get along with old torsos, particularly the rather bulky Templar chests.  The guy on the left has his arms attached to his torso by the thinnest margin.  The guy on the right has a gap between his hand and wrist that I'll have to try cramming some greenstuff into now.

And then, there's the problem child.

http://bolterandchainsword.com/uploads/gallery/album_6916/gallery_38474_6916_37210.jpg

Guess what?  Forgeworld arms don't fit plastic torsos.  I sense a running theme with my challenges.  Anyway, as shown, all the parts were painted as necessary for my own personal deadline of midnight April 4.  I'll have to rush through an old pair of Tactical arms tomorrow to make him whole.  Oh joy of joys.  :dry.:

All this aside, I'm quite proud of the candles.  The lantern...meh.  Could be worse, could be better.  Traditionally I have just painted the lantern bits solid metallic shades, but seeing as these guys are flamer marines, a bit of glowy orange seemed appropriate.  Not excellently executed, but I could've done a lot worse.

To take some proper pics, I'm gonna have to go through the trouble of reclaiming my photo space.  Sounds simple enough on paper, but currently that space is taken up by the entirety of my Templar models.  That'll be about an hour of work putting it all away. :sleep.:

And finally, I'll have to bow out of round 3.  My High Marshal is going to involve some techniques I haven't tried yet, and I wanna hammer out the kinks before I apply it to the model.  That, and it'll take some irritating finagling to safely attach that crappily super fragile sword hand to his body in a way that won't leave it snapping off in a crosswind.

Worse yet, my supply of old paints is pretty much dead.  My custom mix of Chaos Black and Codex Grey is down to a thin bit of gunk, and my Codex Grey isn't much better.  I managed to find a great replacement for Bleached Bone, but it wasn't easy.  Le sigh

But this was fun.  And it finally got those damned Neophytes off my desk, so gracias for the incentive.

Oh, and now I can bust out a fully painted bare face in about 20 minutes flat, minus drying time!  Quite happy about that. :biggrin.:

Alright, I'm away from home, but brought them with me.

These pictures will suck, but it's merely proof I finished. When I get home... Today I guess (why is it 2:34 in the morning?!?!), I will post more to my WiP page.

Dang! Some awesome entries being finished and posted today! Lovely all of them. Wow. I will comment on each and every one of them in the 'official' deadline update, which will be written shortly after this day is over. Which will be at least a couple more hours ;)

However, I am going to make a ruling here on Tekman. YES buddy, I'm talking to you! Since you asked for C&C, I'm not counting your entry as completed yet, and rightly so, for I think your Fire Raptor's base could use some more work. Right now, it's just a lot of snow (which looks like it's still drying?) and not much more. Also, the edges of the base (not the sides, the actual edges of the upper surface) are still bare. So it needs a bit more work there, mate. You've delivered some excellent snowy bases before, so I'm postiive you can deliver. :tu: :tu:

As I recall from the last deadline we had until midnight in our own timezone? (so many pages can't seem to find it )  I know I won't need til midnight but I do still have some highlights to finish before the day is out.

Very nice work, Arkangilos. :tu:

If you have the opportunity to get a pin vice in the future, drilling weapon barrels will really improve how they look.

Oh, and tidy up the edges of their bases ;)

No matter the odds! -out comes the glue, snow and stir sticks for a photo finish.

Brother-Captain Alaric Tyr

XIXth Legion 'Raven Guard'

Captain of the VIIth Assault Company, Istvaan V Campaign

'Let the Lycaeans follow Corax as they will. To them belongs the future of the Raven Guard, a name which now turns instead to ash in my mouth and brings only bitter resentment towards a father who cast out his own sons. Let us not dwell upon what once was, but instead turn our thoughts to vengeance. We are the last of the true XIXth, the Terran Legion of old, and our path ends here amidst these blood-soaked ash dunes, on the barren plateaus of this accursed world. Let the Lycaeans run and live to fight another day. We are the ash-blind, the ash-clad demons of our foes' darkest nightmares. We are righteous vengeance made manifest. Let the traitors of the fallen Legions count their victories whilst they may. In their shadows stalk the shades of the Ash-Blind, and before this night is over, by the spirits of our fallen Terran brothers, I swear that we shall leave behind us a legacy of bloodshed and devastation such that our foes will rue the day they dared turn from the light of mighty Terra.'

For clarity's sake - this is my completion of my Arena challenge. In the spirit of openness, I should note it's extremely likely that I'll add something to his base and a transfer to his jump pack. However, this requires a bits box and a transfer set, both of which are in a different country to myself at the moment. He is at a stage I'm very happy with and very much tabletop-ready, so I'm going to go ahead and call him complete - I trust that doesn't break the spirit of the Arena. Were I in my home country I'd add the requisite bits well before the deadline.

Truly excellent.  Love how the OSL turned out, and the weathering went great.  Aside from the slightly strange shape of the claw freehand you put on his ankle, I can't find anything to nitpick.  But I found one thing, so I can still feel good about that. :teehee:

...which is sculpted on, and part of the original model ;) I guess I could have shaved it off, haha. Cheers man.

Sadly I must admit failure. I painted 8 out of 9 minis of my pledge. Oh well. I shall bear the badge of shame with pride! ;)

Will post pictures of the finished models once I get back home after Easter.

Quick update: Bases for the Dreadnoughts are done. Will do some more painting tomorrow. It would be awesome if I could complete both dreads before the game I will have in the evening. But that might be too ambitious. Will see what I can do. Here two pics:

Messy :blink.:

For the blood, you may want to try adding gunkier, darker viscera in the center of the splash, especially around the hips where the splash would be pouring from.  A deep crimson would work.  Just water it down and dab it here and there like a wash, maybe in two or three layers.

Very nice work, Arkangilos.

Oh, and tidy up the edges of their bases

Yeah sorry. Once I get a drill, I'll start driling my barrels :tongue.:

As it is, it's a low priority for me to spend money on, so that's as done as that is getting anytime soon.

As for the bases, they are bad in that picture because it was 2:30 in the morning, I didn't pay attention to that, I had a little to drink earlier with my grandparents, and I was exhausted, so I was like, "Fhew done." And I am. The bases are done, but I'm not going to upload new pictures just to prove one small change was made here. I'll upload them to my WiP a little later. And maybe here. Heck, I don't know.

Plus I spilled my nuln oil... I was pretty livid at myself. Internally of course.

+P.S.+

I'll buy a drill this week when my friend and I go up to the local GW Store to buy him some paints.

Arkangilos, are those white bits on some of your weapons marble? I'd love to know your recipe and see if ours match :happy.:!

Yes! Those are supposed to be marble spots. So they were all primed black, then I did white > a few small lines of nuln oil > accidentally smear nuln oil > white again > nuln oil slight wash > white... again... (basically, a white wash) > 'Ard Coat finish.

Also, when I applied the Nuln Oil to the white, I let it pool up in blotches, in random spots in the middle.

finally got the pic to upload. vow complete

not bad at all! it looks to me like the eyes are quite well detailed. However i cant stop staring at thr hair. I feel like that needed some work but i have personally stayed away from it for lack of knowledge on how to do it right.

Well they are finished. I got a little sloppy at the end,  as I was up against the deadline, so some of the details I'm not 100% happy with but they are battle ready. And so I declare this vow complete

http://i85.photobucket.com/albums/k48/Acebaur/40K/20150405_205542_zpsthk6htcm.jpg

I also note that I will take the 30K badge as my reward, despite this being a 40K squad. This being because the 30K badge has an honorable Imperial Fist on it, where as the 40K badge has a filthy witch chapter Blood Raven

:p
