Awesome minis. I Like the bionics on Sergeant Nerva and the Templars are great especially the blue power fist.

I wanted to use yellow to paint faceplates and icons on my SoBs but was hesitant. After seeing how your yellow came out Flint from just using two paints and two shades I'm going through with it. Thanks thumbsup.gif

Congrats on the win Heinrich (even if it was against the III)! I'm still hanging out to see that terminator sergeant finished and the Scimitars are pretty enticing. Have you painted a test mini yet?

Awesome looking legionaries Flint! I didn't realise how much detail was on the Phalanx Warder minis. Can't wait to see them given the Flint treatment :)

Guys, girls, how's this look for one of Fafnir Rann's Wardens? The shield glared out my camera just a lil bit, but otherwise, I'm pretty happy. After this imma finish up the First Oathed Templar as well as the rest of the Wardens so the 59th's support elements are all complete. Then I'll get started on the 59th themselves.

@ Slipstreams - I take that as a positive? happy.png

@ Krieg - Thanks! How does the yellow look scaled up for an entire marine?

@ Kizzdougs - Yeah, I really like the Warden kits. Absolutely everything except those giant goofy shield FISTS. They're a bit silly.

@ Recon - Thanks! How's the first one looking?

@ Augustus - Haha, of what, exactly? biggrin.png

Everything is looking fantastic! The poses and overall look of both legions are great!

The painted Fists, if I may dare say, look the business. The tutorial also looks too tantalizing to not try out. If I could get my hands on some plasticard I would want to give it a go with my kill team and put them on those new, slightly bigger bases.

I'd give you a high five for the really nice yellow marine but I'll just end up breaking my laptop monitor. :P

Really good job. I'm just going to stick with painting small bits on my SoBs armor. lol thumbsup.gif

You said that after the Yriel yellow highlight you washed with Cassandora yellow. Did you use the lamenters yellow glaze at the end?

Where did you get the mace the warden with the back banner has?

Also it might just be me but some of the edge highlights on the power axe seem a bit too white for the blue beneath them.  A small concern with a awesome model.

The fist on the shield is amazing, love the highlighting. In the same token though, the white on the shield feels too pure compared to the more worn look of the rest of the model. That said it could just be the camera washing out the details(they tend to do that on large white surfaces)

The yellow looks good, I like the worn look.  Could maybe do one more brighter highlight but I can see where you did edge highlight the yellow. So again it could be the camera washing it out.

The axe head doesn't do it for me. I like the blade, but the head it to dark IMO.  Perhaps do some some bright highlights on the power "nodes" to break up all the dark blue?

Overall great model, yellow is notoriously hard to do and you've done a great job on it! Can't wait to see more

PS: Can we get a shot of a his chest?

Afternoon folks! Here are a few updated shots of my prospective Warden color scheme.

1.) Brightened his axe up a bit, thought I'm unsure if I want to refine this metallic blue deal or go back to the normal blue and white John Blanche thing I'm decent at.

http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/640x480q90/633/9bTICV.jpg

2.) Took one more highlight step up before glazing his layers together.

3.) Got a shot of his shield and THE FIST (gawd those things are goofy) that isn't all glared out happy.png

Also, since I've gotten tons of replies and PMs asking after my yellow recipe, I sat down and plotted it all out for your convenience.

For the full sized marine, here are all the things I used:

http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/640x480q90/538/uiYzKO.jpg

And the process:

1.) Primer gray

2.) Basecoat w/ Averland sunset (typically 2 coats)

3.) Wash recesses with AP soft tone

4.) Broad layer highlight with Yriel yellow

5.) Top 25% layer highlight with 50/50 Flash Gitz and Yriel yellow

6.) Top 10% layer hightlight with Flash Gitz

7.) (new to this last batch of pics) Edge highlight with 50/50 Dead white and Yriel yellow

8.) Neat little targeted Lamenter's yellow glaze to tie the layers together.

As always, feel very free to ask if you have any other questions.

Replies!

@ Recon - Haha, thanks! I certainly wouldn't call myself gifted, but I think I'm starting to learn. I certainly see why heavy weathering is so popular with the VII legion crowd now though biggrin.png

@ DimDim - See above!

@ Hushrong - Thanks! Always glad to be the business cool.png

@ Black Cohort - Ah, that's from my little Imperial Fist command bros set. I wanted both a mix of weapons in my Wardens, as well as an axe on my Standard Bearer.

@ Slipstreams - Ah, that is indeed the one.

@ Acebaur - Thanks for the constructive advice! I'm glad the weathering turned out ok. I knew from the start that I didn't want to go the super heavy duty way a lot of awesome Imperial Fist players were going. I wanted a "worn but maintained" look to their armor. It's seen definite use... the paint is discolored in places, they have a few dings, they may have hastily resprayed it in a couple places. But dammit, they are proud Fists of DORN. They will maintain basic upkeep :D

How does the shield look now that he isn't all glared out?

I'd go back to the flat blues and whites for the power ax.  As for the yellow, I'm not a fan.  It's muddy in a way that resembles trouble with painting more than simulated weathering.  That said, I don't know the first thing about painting yellows, aside from the fact that it's a pain in the ass.  So... :teehee:

Doing good on the black, though.  Gotta get those lenses (which are for some bizarre reason) on the shield's trim.

Maybe its because I prime Black but I +/- use the same colors for my yellow and I feel that mine comes out more Golden..

Oh well, no harm no foul, looks awesome anyways.
