Small IG and Scion force

Ive been a bit quiet this week on the painting front but Ive managed to start the base.

Im going for a battered defense line with a couple of defending guard. (maybe a SM scout too)

Im also looking for the right nid on ebay to add to the mini diorama

Here we are so far

The wet stuff is wood glue that expands as it dries. Its a great way to add texture and height to a flat base with out having to resort to building plasticard mounds.

Heres a small update

I managed to get some paint on the base today

Its just had a coat of purity seal so its still a bit shiny

I might not add minis as it depends on how the vow goes for timing but ive just ordered a box of ebay tyranid bits including 5 rippers so i can see an overrun defense line coming on

With Mini for size

Cracked on with the base

There is some clean up on the clear support but its about done

Ive started work on a casualty who will have a damaged arm and leg, hence he is sat defending his position.

Now imagine a dead ripper over the wall with one heading over and another 3 behind it.

....and that is blutac holding his legs on that you can see!

Ok so I bagged an ebay bargain

Unfortunately one of the tanks was a glue bomb with 5 layers of paint...... green, black, red, blue, grey.....

So I bought a bottle of dettol and sat them in it.

The old russ came out ok eventually but the back was a wreak with glue so I had to cut off the exhausts and engine cover and think of something else.

a little bit of work with some resin stowage and a few baneblade parts and Pask has a beast of an old school tank

I dont think it breaks up the profile too much although I wasnt sure if the fuel drums were too big

  • 1 month later...

So Ive had a bit of a break from painting so to get me back on track ive done a couple more guard. As usual taken a couple of days on each which isnt that productive for a horde army but at least the little squads looking good.

I bought a set of Kromech backpacks and Ive got to say they are great

love the streaks, did you use oils for it?either way, it's some fantastic weathering! ;)

Thanks, yes. I'm using black, dark brown and orange oils for the weathering

Gotta echo that the weathering is excellent, and well complimented by the muted/faded colors on the paint scheme.  You must have practiced with historical minis in the past!

Thanks for the complement but honestly no

I literally looked at the tutorial linked above, bought some oils and went for it!

It really is easy and the beauty is if you make a mess you just put some thinners on it and it wipes straight off. Its completely different to the committed process of painting with acrylics.

Give it a go it really isnt that hard to do.
