Welcome to the fourth modelling challenge hosted by the Bolter & Chainsword's Imperial Guard forum, Regiments of the B&C: Blood and Glory.

What the vow entails:

  • Signifying your participation (via a post stating as much in this very thread) in this grand endeavour and posting an image of the unpainted or primed model in this thread by the 1st March 20:00 GMT.
  • By the 29th March 20:00 GMT:
Posting at least one image of the finished single (loyalist or traitor) Imperial Guard HQ or Elite unit infantry model representative of your regiment or army.
Writing up a short bio of that Imperial Guard model, no shorter than 100 words.
Writing up a short background of your army, no shorter than 300 words.

What is allowed:
A single infantry model from a HQ or Elite infantry unit/slot from any Astra Militarum army (loyalist, PDF or traitor), armed with Imperial weaponry which means all FW, GW, Victoria Miniatures etc. as long as the model is within the Astra Militarum codex, any supplements available during the competition period or one of the Forge world books. Please state in your vow the source (book) of the vehicle. Conversions and partially painted models may be entered at the commissariat's discretion along with models you plan to repaint - please confirm eligibility before vowing!

Regiments of the B&C promotion details:
As for the previous Regiments of the B&C challenges there are 3 tiers of completion by the end of the challenge:

  • Successfully submitting an image of your completed model earns you one rank.
  • Successfully submitting the write-up about that model earns you one rank.
  • Successfully submitting the write-up about your army earns you one rank.

You cannot earn any ranks in the challenge if you fail to submit the image of the completed model as this is the minimum completion level.

Those who submitted their army write-up in a previous Regiments challenge are requested to submit it again (by all means expand upon it), but it can only count once to your overall Regiments of the B&C rank.
Those who earned ranks in the previous challenges will be promoted further via completions in Blood and Glory.

Finally...
By all means flaunt your participation in this grand endeavour with the addition into your signature of your choice of the following images:

=][= MESSAGE FROM REGIMENTAL COMMAND =][=

It has been noted that several regiments have joined the crusade since its inception. While such devotion is only to be praised this has left a hole in the administratum's documents. This is of course unacceptable and will be redressed immediately.

Any regiment that has not successfully completed the One for All challenge may do so in addition to, or in exchange of, the Blood and Glory event. The times, dates and criteria are all identical save for One For All requiring a single infantry model from any Troop unit as described in the original challenge. Please make the appropriate vows in the same post if possible.

These additional completions will provide promotions and medals as normal. If there are any questions direct them to myself or Commissar elmo, we expect the appropriate forms to be filled in and on the commissariat's desk by the end of the next solar month.

For the Emperor.

I, Grotsmasha, of The Desert Rats, do hereby vow to complete one Ogryn from Codex: Astra Militarum for the Regiments of the B&C: Blood and Glory Challenge by March 29th for the honour of the Baulkney 71st Regiment.

Bone 'ead Gnar-Kill

Gnar-Kill is some-what a oddity within The Desert Rats, he joined the ranks of the 71st when he was rescued from imprisonment within an Ork stronghold, the sole survivor of his regiment. Upon release by the 71st's Elite Grenadier company he found a home as the Grenadiers mascot, an honourary member. After a time the Grenadiers noticed that Gnar-Kill waa learning their tactics and maneuvers, mimicing their drills from the sidelines, not only that, he was performing them well. He was allowed to join their daily drills, even becoming proficient enough to join in their training missions. Proving to be a combat-multiplier when the Grenadiers needed to get up close and personal Gnar-Kill was promoted to an official member of the Grenadier Platoon, participating in active engagements, the Grenadiers using him to add a some shock to their assaults

The Baulkney 71st, The Desert Rats

The Desert Rats are an elite reconnaissance unit and hail from a large equatorial island on the third moon of Baulkney Prime. The vast island has only the one settlement, the training fortress of the 71st. Although the troopers of the Desert Rats are conscripted from all of the continents upon the planet, every man and woman will spend 2 years of extensive training in the harsh desert climate. They are trained to be experts in all aspects of desert warfare. They are taught how to survive the heat of the days, and the chill of the night. They are taught to track in the drifting sand of the dunes, they're taught how to conceal themselves in the open expanse of the desert.

Due to the islands remote locale, The Desert Rats have adopted a unique method for combat training within the regiment. In ages past, an Ork Rock crashed into the moon, leaving very few survivors. Upon the Orks discovery, it was observed that none of the xenos' Meks had survived, and the mob had reverted to a feral state. It is against these Orks that the Desert Rats perfect all facets disruptive warfare including aerial assaults, dawn raids, night-fighting, sabotage and infiltration.

Above all else, The Desert Rats are expert marksmen, with a regimental preference for over-charged, long-las rifles. As such, their preferred method of engagement is to attack from concealment as snipers en masse, leaving the enemy surprised and off-guard which allows the regiments lite Sentinals to move forward unmolested. The Desert Rats are a completely infantry based regiment. Although they maintain several Valkyries to assist in rapid redeployment should it be necessary, their heaviest support comes from their Sentinal Corps. The Sentinals of the Desert Rats are made from a lighter material than standard STC Sentenals, leaving them more susseptable to damage, the payout, however, is a significant manoeuvrability upgrade, greatly increasing their range and response times.

Honoured Lord Commissar, I'm afraid I have a question. If one wants to also complete an entry for the One For All competition, where should he/she vow- in this thread or the other?

All clear, then, Lord. Nothing to see here. Nope. Had to reread the rules myself as a daft servitor read them to me the first time. All fine here.

I, Mehman, vow to complete one Priest of the Holy Church of the Emperor Inviolate by March 29th, greatly adding to the strength of the Ostheim 93rd Infantry Regiment. His entry is to be found in the book Codex: Astra Militarum, or, This Book is Only for Colonels and Above, Move Along! in the section labeled: Head Quarter Units [HQ].

I also vow to paint this cigar-smoking Lieutenant of the Ostheim 93rd Regiment, 7th Company, by March 29th, for the One For All competition. May the Emperor's grace bless you forevermore.

Ostheim 93rd Regimental Overview with Focus on the 7th Company "Timber Wolves"

Ostheim, the third planet orbiting around the star, Heim, has been a planet rich with life since its founding during the Dark Age of Technology. A world first colonized by settlers selected from the Scandinavian Emirates of Old Terra, Ostheim was terraformed to remind the colonists of the world they left. Little did they know the flora and fauna they introduced would thrive better than they had since before Ancient Terran records.

Populations of animals that were on the brink of extinction back on Terra exploded and changed, subtly at first, to become terrors of what they once were. The largest and most fearsome of these newly adapted creatures was to be called the Timber Wolf. At home within the towering conifer forests of the middle region, peat bogs of the south, and the tundra of the far north, the Timber Wolves were, and still are, kings.

To combat these roving monstrosities, villages of ages past would band together and form hunting parties the likes of which made the pogroms during the Age of Strife look tame. They would strike out against the giant beasts until their numbers could be roughly counted and mankind again ruled the planet. From the ashes of the hunting parties of old, the Planetary Defence Force was moulded and formed, just as the fires of the Horus Heresy were dying out.

To join the Astra Militarum is to take a fork in the road between the forestry villages or ore smelter centers; a simple task. The people of Ostheim are a proud and hardy stock, used to bloodshed against all manner of creature- man or beast. To this end, youths are given a choice: serve in the Planetary Defence Force or test Fate and serve the wider Imperium in the Astra Militarum. There is no shame in either choice as each brings glory in battle.

The Ostheim 93rd Regiment has been formed by thousands of brave men and women already used to the horror in the night. To this end, the 7th Company have been branded the “Timber Wolves” to remind the Guardsmen of what they have faced before and to teach new enemies the meaning of a keen fury. Listing all they have accomplished since founding would take many scrolls. A brief overview for the uninitiated:

First War for Unification of the Drowned Planets (aka, War of the Youth)
Fighting ensued over three Agri-Worlds in the Sumatari System that had pledged allegiance to the Ruinous Powers. The arrival of the Ostheim 93rd Regiment, 7th Company on the heavily forested Ethonia broke the war of attrition between the armoured Midtenheim 8th Regiment, 2nd Company “Iron Teeth” and the hated Arch Enemy. Utilizing basic stealth tactics, as learned in their youths on Ostheim during Herd Culls, the Timber Wolves crept silently through the densely forested No Man’s Land and took the enemy renegades by the throat. Hundreds of lasgun discharges lanced into the weakling, filthy infantry as Sentinels emerged through the cover of the trees, autocannon shot and lascannon blasts tearing apart their hull-down, rusted tanks. The program of Decimation was enacted by Triedes Sector Command and carried out by the 7th Company on the populace of Sumatari II for falling from the Emperor’s light. It was a “necessity” the war needed.

Second War for Unification of the Drowned Planets (aka, The Shifting Ways War)
After victory, and eventual pacification, on the second planet in the Sumatari System, Sector Command deemed it a matter of import for the first planet, Sudari, to be recaptured from the forces of Chaos. Showing great courage and determination, the Ostheim 93rd Regiment vowed to stop the foul Barogenic Cult’s galactic march eastward on Sudari. To this end, a regiment of Militarum Tempestus Scions, the 23rd Cetan “Dire Wolves”, were seconded to the 7th Company. Although regarded at first as insular and uncaring soldiery, attitudes quickly changed when the Dire Wolves showed a strong bond with their adoptive company by saving their lives time and again on that arid planet. Without the aid shown to each other, both units were surely to die against the traitor who outnumbered the loyalists twelve-to-one.

Third War for Unification of the Drowned Planets (aka, Plains of the Holy)
The third embattled world, Negrobi, saw the Timber and Dire Wolves least amount of fighting. They instead took on the roles of Military Instructors to the populace who were quick to say they would fight their own battle against the cancer of the Warp that infested their holy planet. Thousands of years ago, a young scribe ended a civil war that saw Negrobi embroiled in a firestorm of hate and malice by calmly walking up to the instigating force’s commander and whispering one question: Are we not the Emperor’s own? For this young man to get so far past No Man’s Land astounded all gathered. It is said that no one knows who fired the shot that killed him, but all agree that it was an atrocity for, when he died, he bled the light of the Emperor Ascendant that washed the lands clean of all ill-will. The end of the Third War came when Major Rune Dagrson cut the head from the Plague Marine, Baro, and then ordered his retinue burned at the stake for atrocities committed against the Imperium of Mankind.

Løytnant Orjan Hroarrson (One for All vow complete)

Company duelist and marksman, Løytnant Orjan Hroarrson has served with the Ostheim 93rd, 7th Company for decades in an officer role with the 1st Platoon. It comes with great honour to be selected for service in his platoon because as long as his troopers do their best, he gives the best. Spirits, tabac, over-charged power cells- nothing is too good for his troopers. On the field of battle, he is ever the wolf, dogging his opponents until they tire and then setting his jaws upon them. Off the field, he is a gracious and kind man; ever popular with ladies from several planets. If his honour is broached or if it is just for sport, Hroarrson leaves his kindness off the dueling range. Apt with bolt pistol and thrusting sword, nary is the man that can boast a winning bout.

med_gallery_83709_10451_79638.jpg

Far Magnus the Wrathful (Blood and Glory vow complete)

Before taking the title “Wrathful”, the monk Magnus was a peaceful shrine-keeper in the wilds of Negrobi, the first planet in the Sumatari System.

The life out on the plains was full of hardships, even for the anchorite. Daily chores involved finding something to eat and a plentiful water source. Luckily, the Shrine to the Weapon Interred had both; giant, venomous Great Beetles- and the things that hunted them- for game and the only fresh water spring for kilometres. Other tasks required of Magnus were blessings of the interred weapon, daily close combat drills, and the reading of the Magnum Sumatari, the most holy text in the Sumatari System, detailing the life and death of Saint Melker the Scribe and his part in the events that surrounded the Brothers’ War thousands of years ago.

The day Magnus took his title, it was a day the sky should have rained blood. Cultists and a lone Arch-Enemy appeared around the shrine and demanded the monk kneel before their debased, pestilent god of disease or they would kill him in a most gruesome fashion. But first, they were to debase the shrine with raucous laughter and much joy. As the once-marine placed his foot at the base of the shrine, a spark exploded in Magnus’ head. That was all it took for the anchorite to snap- the devils were literally at his doorstep and he had to act.

Praying for righteous action and furious anger, the monk recalled his decades of combat practice. The Saint and the Emperor must have heard his hoarse calling because he did not martyr himself that day. Instead, he set the bar for the next shrine-holders of Negrobi by ripping the head from the Traitor Space Marine single-handedly. The Cultists fled but Magnus knew they would be back, and in numbers hard to count. The time had drawn nigh for the object of the shrine had to be awakened- its planet needed it once more.

With great reverence, Magnus said the prayers of awakening as he released the power couplings from the eviscerator. At the same time, Cultists were making their way behind his back, rusted knives dripping with poison to be the monk’s reward for killing their master. A great, cracking sound and force threw the assassins to the ground. Enoksstorsverd, the holy weapon, was free, and to all who beheld it that day, death followed quickly.

The monk was reborn in the blood of traitors. Calling himself Father Magnus the Wrathful, he vowed himself take pilgrimage and slaughter all forces against Saint Melker and the Emperor on Terra until the day he is martyred for their cause.

Veteran Sgt. Sasha

Just need to do the base. I'm still working on my layering technique and don't have the steadiest of hands. I am getting better and this model was really fun to paint.

Sgt. Sasha Garcia

Sgt. Sasha Garcia

Here I present Color Sgt. Sasha Garcia Contreras of Sharpe's Rifles. She met with Col. Sharpe during the Iberian liberation during the Sabbat Crusade. She was a partisan leading a group of guerrilla fighters against the forces of the Archemeny. During one of Col. Sharpe's many exploits behind enemy lines. Sgt Contreras came to the aid of then Captain Sharpe and his troopers as they had been cut off by a platoon of Chaos Space Marines.
Had it not been for the bravery and sacrifice of Sgt. Contreras and her fighters Capt. Sharpe most certainly would have been killed. Ever since that mission the 2 have been inseparable.

I spy a custom model? Will be great to see her painted up, especially as it's hard to make out the details on the clear stuff! :P

I have got the undercoat done:

So I'll be able to start making headway once I get a bit more free time in the week. As you can see I've not glued the carapace armour on so I can easily paint the bits it'd cover :)

I Lucio, Chief Tactical Advisor to the Quintos warband and their allies, the 88th Phlegethos Regiment, do vow to complete the regimental discipline officer High Priest Torvek by the 29th March.

Due to special dispensation from Commissar Warriorfish, the WIP shots are delayed pending recovery of the data from the body of Imperial Agent Hrolf.

I, Lucio also vow to complete an All for One challenge featuring Squad Sergeant Fulk, whose sqaud acts as a loyal bodyguard to High Priest Torvek.

UPDATE:
Magos Leopold has been able to partially recover the data from the device swallowed by Agent Hrolf, and we are able to present early images of Squad Sergeant Fulk. The Magos will endevour to recover the remaining imagery stored on the device.

Squad Sergeant Fulk Before 1

UPDATE 2:
Magos Kryton was bought in after Magos Leopold was "volunteered" for the Servitor program and has been successful in recovering the imagery of High Priest Torvek
