No, there's no individualisation I don't have that much free time :P Besides I'm not sure there's any customisation that could be done, by wearing your rank in your sig you're letting everyone know that you've attained such a prestigious rank which is all I can think of!

Woo hoo! Warrant Officer 2! Time to go bust up some troopers for loitering!

This is really an awesome thing you do, Lord Commissar. Putting these events on has really saved my sanity and they let me go wild with the bitz box. So, to you and all the other Commissars (Elmo), thanks a lot.

It is good to aim high ;) Also we like to shoot quitters... there's that too. Let none say the commissariat doesn't hold itself to the same standards!

I should have a bit more time to paint this weekend which will see me well on to the home mile - I've got some catching up to do! I'll find some non-painting time for the write ups too, aside from adding a mention of a special fuel can everyone's been writing some great stuff so my attempt is starting to look meagre by comparison!

Stoneborn, reporting for duty, Sirs!

gallery_63566_10402_86789.jpg

A career soldier, Lord Commander Arvind 'Arvey' Darvaal has gradually crept up the ranks over his 25-year long service to the Stoneborn. Like the majority of the men under his command, Arvind cut his teeth battling greenskins in the deep mines of his homeworld, Euryale, before being sent further afield. A naturally charismatic character, Arvey took to leadership easily and his skill as a warrior quickly earned him the respect of his superiors. A combination of luck, skill and sheer stubbornness
saw Darvaal persevere, surviving through the Stoneborn's greatest victories and most terrible defeats.
More recently, however, Darvaal has been promoted beyond his ability. After the death of the company's former Lord Commander, Eryn Kerphos, Arvind's years of experience made him the obvious candidate. Whilst his skill and tenacity are unquestionable, Darvaal's lack of formal education and years on the front line have left him ill-equipped to manage the movements of the entire company. Worse, Arvey detests the politics of the regiment's upper command structure and yearns for the opportunity to return to the front line proper.

Guardsman Kernoc joined the Stoneborn at the age of 15, and in the five years since has seen little but the dark walls of Euryale's mines, illuminated by the flaring prometheum of his crude flamethrower. Orders have recently come in, however, that the regiment is being dispatched to a new warzone and, after years of stalking through a subterranean hell-hole Kernoc is eager for the chance to fight the enemies of the Imperium underneath a new sky. As icing on the cake, in readiness for the new deployment, the soldiery are receiving additional training, which for Kernoc means trading in his flamer for a melta gun.

Euryale

gallery_63566_10402_3121.jpg

Euryale is the seventh planet of the Vitharr system, which lies on the Cygnus Arm of the Segmentum Obscurus. An industrial mining world, Euryale’s surface consists of a single major landmass, and a large proportion of the water on the planet exists in the many rivers and lakes that negotiate the planet’s vast mountain ranges.

The world was first colonised by refugees from Medusa, the home world of the Iron Hands Chapter of the Adeptus Astartes, during the chaotic period that followed the galactic civil war. In honour of their Medusan heritage, the planet was given the name of another gorgon from ancient Terran myth, Euryale.

Euryale was poorly suited for large-scale agriculture however and, despite the enormous potential of the planet's rich mineral seams, the early settlers struggled to eek out an existence, relying heavily on pastoral farming to support the growing colony. Indeed, it was only once the Euryaleans began to forge close partnerships with other nearby planetary systems that the population began to grow and thrive. Each playing to their strengths, Euryale agreed to trade with the lush, verdant world Vitharr, exchanging precious metals and gems for a steady supply of food.

As the settlements developed over the centuries, the specialised industries of each planet grew in kind. Vitharr is now a breadbasket world, contributing the lion's share of its produce to the Imperial war machine and using what little remains to feed the inhabitants of the local star system. Euryale on the other hand has been almost cored like an apple to provide huge quantities of iron, zinc, copper and aluminium for the forgeworlds of the Mechanicum: the planet is now littered with the vast craters and labyrinthine depths of former mines. Virtually picked clean, only small-scale mining continues on Euryale. Nevertheless, mining continues to dominate the world's economy. Raw materials are now extracted from nearby asteroids and moons and brought Euryale to be processed and refined, before being sent further afield.

The Stoneborn

Euryale and Vitharr have not always been such close allies, however. In circa 700M39, Vitharr began expanding its reach and took control ofseveral other neighbouring planets, including the desert world Nomos (the fourth planet) and the densely populated Amphiarus (the sixth planet). Whilst the sparse Nomosian peoples embraced the leadership of Vitharr, Amphiarius required firmer persuasion. After a sixth-month blockade, Amphiarus capitulated - the planet's food supplied having been exhausted three months earlier. Growing in confidence, when Vitharr moved to conquer Euryale, it attempted to over-awe the Euryaleans with a great show of force. The planet's orbital defences were quickly dismantled by the Vitharr fleet, and the nascent empire's army was deployed en masse to the surface. The Vitharri forces were unprepared for the kind of war facing them on Euryale, however. Within months of landing, Euryale's cities had emptied, its citizens retreating to the comparative safety of the world's vast mining systems. The labyrinthine systems were a death trap for any enemy forces sent in to root out the Euryaleans - entire regiments disappeared within their depths - either destroyed directly, or simply trapped and left for dead by a controlled cave-in. Far from content to castle themselves within their subterranean refuges, the Euryaleans launched attack after attack from the network. Vastly outnumbered by the Vitharri the Euryaleans could not face the invaders in open combat, instead the mining systems gave the Euryaleans the opportunity to pick when and where they would fight, and it is from this conflict that the warriors of Euryale earned their epithet 'Stoneborn' - the soldiers appearing to simply materialise from within the rocks themselves.

With neither side able to secure a convincing victory over the other, the war deteriorated into a brutal war of attrition. The conflict dragged on for four more years before the Vitharri were forced to abandon their conquest. Although the war was brought to a close with the departure of the last Vitharri soldier, the two sides did not agree on a permanent truce and it was only around 150 years later that the two sides were able to bury the hatchet.

Two more vows completed. In truth the models were done just two days after submission here. Took a little longer to do the write-ups. tongue.png

Perhaps not the most interesting models, but it was what I had coming up the pipe next when this kicked of.

First, Blood and Glory:

http://munivity.com/orkhunterhq1.jpg

Unit and Army background:

Commander Manila Scarr of the 16'th Armageddon Ork Hunters
For many years Manila Scarr was known as a notorious criminal and gang leader in Hive Helsreach. He was involved in illegal acquisition and trade of Imperial property, as well as controlling large portions of his very own level of the hive. From the shadows of course. He ran a tight ship and an even tighter crew of hardcore hive scum. Local law enforcement feared him and his men as much as the local populace, and he was allowed to do as wished for quite a while. But eventually his operation reached the attention of Adeptus Arbites officials, who decided to deal with him.
Several Arbites, and most of Manilas gang were killed in the battle that ensued. Manila had the presence of mind to not pull a gun on the Arbites that kicked down his door however, and was put into custody instead. Following a quick trial he was sentenced to fate worse than death. The Armageddon Ork Hunters. His undeniable skills and leadership was to find purpose in the jungles of Armageddon, where he eventually came to lead the 16'th Armageddon Ork Hunter Company. Many of the principles he had used as a gang leader turned out to be quite useful as the soldiers he had to deal with in the Ork Hunters were of the same caliber that he had been used to dealing with as a gang leader.

The 16'th Armageddon Ork Hunters.
The 16'th is a group of Ork Hunters made up of criminals and hive gangers from Hive Helsreach. Some join out of free will to serve the emperor, or more commonly, sate the lust for blood and a good fight. Others choose service in the equatorial jungles of Armageddon as an option to the firing squad, to atone for whatever crimes they have committed.
Arriving at Cerbera Base at the heart of the equatorial jungles, fresh recruits are introduced the the merciless company commander, Manila Scarr. Basic training consists of a week of fighting in feral Ork border territories. No particular objectives. If you survive the week you are accepted into the ranks of the 16'th, no more, no less. Casualties tend to be high, but the approach has ensured that the 16'th is as hard as they come.
As with most Ork Hunter companies, the 16'th is a crude and brutal bunch. Brawls, and even subsequent deaths among the soldiers is not uncommon. The fighting men and women of the 16'th come from a wide variety of backgrounds and alignments, which often is the cause for conflict. The answer to this has been to offer them as little downtime as possible, keeping the occupied killing the enemy, rather than themselves.
Recently the 16'th were pulled out of duty in the jungles to bring their particular talents back to the hives and help burn out the Orks that have dug into the hive underworlds following the initial sieges of the Third War for Armageddon. This is an opportunity relished by many of the 16'th, as they are literally fighting on their home turf. Aside from Manila, one the 16'th most famous members is Sgt. Sabine Harker. A former hive ganger, mad tinkerer and weapon nut. Many a feral Ork has learned to fear her maniacal laugh and the roar of her custom Heavy Stubber which tends to accompany it.

One for All!:
http://munivity.com/steelvox1.jpg
Unit and Army background(army background is the same as from Big Guns Never Tire):

Pvt. Hans Dittmar of the Armageddon Steel Legion - 121'st Regiment, 3'rd Armoured Company, 1'st Armoured Fist Platoon
Hans was born and bred into life as a dockworker in Hive Helsreach. Startingout in his urchin years by doing whatever minor tasks he could pursade the older workers to pay him to do. As the years progressed he eventually found permanent and proper employment, making his way from the hustle and bustle of the docking areas to the "cushier" position in the cranes above. He became a popular figure with many of the other dockworkers as he would frequently come to clash with their superiors over working conditions. In the end it led him to loose his position and job on the docks, facing punishment for his insubordination he quickly went underground.
With the help of his former co-workers on the docks he began running an illegal vox broadcast, speaking the workers cause, while staying on the move and hidden from the law.
The revolution he was about to spark was cut short however. As the Ork threat was knocking on the gates of Helsreach he realized a more important battle had to be won before thoughts of change in local labour routines could be challenged. He rallied what followers he could and volunteered for service in the guard, bringing with him his vox experience.
Hans was among the men who rallied to Company Commander Oswald Clovis as he chose to defy orders not to ride in defence of the sea-side civilian shelters as the Ork naval assault was approaching. The subsequent actions of XO Wilhelm Reiner, who reported Clovis to the attached Commissar before he could leave and had him executed, did not sit well with Hans and the followers he still had in the Company. Hans may not be dumb enough to openly defy the new leadership of Wilhelm, but his ability to stir up the everymen around him may very well come to be a thorn in Wilhelm's side as the battles on Armageddon rage on.

Armageddon Steel Legion - 121st Regiment, 3'rd Armoured Company:
The current 3'rd Armoured Company served in the defense of Hive Helsreach. Originally a Leman Russ company with Armored Fist squad support, the fighting at Helsreach has taken a significant toll on many of its original elements. Once the forces of the 121'st were allowed to regroup the resulting 3'rd company became a rather varied selection of tanks, armored infantry and support elements like Artillery and Sentinels filling out the ranks until conventional organization can be restored. Leading up to the Third War of Armageddon, the 3'rd Armoured Company was led by Company Commander Oswald Clovis, a respected leader and cunning tactician. During the initial stages of the siege of Hive Helsreach the 3'rd AC was present along the front lines, making the Orks pay for every inch gained with as many lives as possible. By the end of the first month of fighting nearly half of the 3'rd AC was gone or put out of commission.
The forces of Helsreach were held up protecting the heart of the hive as reports of an imminent naval assault rolled in. At the time, the 3'rd Armoured Company had been ordered to set up defensive positions around one of the still operational Prometheum pipe-relays that ran from below to higher up into the spire. The relay, as it turned out, didn't find itself in immediate danger of being attacked. Due to its position within relative proximity to the civilian shelters on the waterfront, Oswald requested that he be allowed to send elements of his Company to aid the vastly understaffed and equipped PDF stationed there. He was ordered to stand his ground, as all Steel Legion forces were. When the waterborne Orks made landfall the vox crackled with frantic pleas of help. The PDF's were not prepared for an attack of this magnitude and the reinforcements that had been promised were primarily focused on defending the dockworks, not the shelters. Unable to sit back and hope for the Orks to suddenly turn their path of destruction his way, to justify high-commands actions, he readied a portion of the Company to ride for the shelters. The heroic charge never came.Oswalds second in command, Wilhelm Reiner, strongly disagreed with the plan. After a heated exchange between the two Wilhelm reported Oswalds actions to their attached Commissar, Helena Laurentia. Oswald was summarily executed against the hull of his Leman Russ, "for disobeying strict orders", just as he was about to leave. For his "obedience and devotion to the Emperor", Wilhelm Reiner was promoted to the rank of Company Commander. The Orks never came in time, three days later the 3'rd AC was ordered to pull further back and help shore up the last lines of defense.
By the time the Orks were forced to fall back and take cover from the noxious ash rain of the Seasons of Fire, 3'rd AC had suffered further casualties. However, remaining elements of other companies were merged into it as the Imperial Forces were allowed to regroup, bringing the total strength back up. In the wake of the siege the 3'rd AC has taken part in efforts to clear portions of the Hive still held by Orks, and missions to destroy the Ork Roks that still litter the plains surrounding Helsreach.

A fantastic completion, well done Lieutenant! The skin looks great, two good models with very detailed write ups. A very well earned promotion up the ranks :D The table is starting to fill up nicely now, I'll be working on my vow this weekend - let's see how many more can complete before next week! :tu:

Yes, where did that skull come from? I've used one that came with the Marine Scout sprue I think for a commissar but I've not seen one with a jaw bone.

It's a glorious day with the sun shining on the righteous (as is proper) so I'm making some good progress. I think I'll have him done this weekend nicely if this keeps up :D The camouflage is almost finished along with the black, then I've just got to finish the shield and head and it's just a matter of basing and transfers :)

Indeed! My Bullgryn is all but done now :) I've put aside the model for today leaving the basing PVA to set, so I'll be painting the base and completing my vow tomorrow - a week before the end of the challenge for those who've yet to post their finished model.

We have a good number of completions, comfortably over half but of course this isn't enough as we want a 100% success rate! A last push to the finish line is all that's required, a single week of effort is surely not beyond the faithful! Onwards comrades, glory waits for none! thumbsup.gif
