A possible 2k SoH list...

Sons of Horus – 2000

With the rumours of the plastic Heresy everywhere, it has inspired me to restart the SoH project that I put on hold (I was lacking mostly the rank and file tactical marines!)

So, with these kits seeing a possible release in May, I’ll be able to finally put together a somewhat decent list that might perform ok against both Heresy and 40k armies.

Anyways, this is the list:

HQ:

-Legion Centurion, Power Weapon

Troops:

-20 man Legion Tactical Squad, Sgt with Combi-Plasma, Legion Vexilla

-20 man Legion Tactical Squad, Sgt with Combi-Plasma, Legion Vexilla

-5 man Legion Veteran Tactical Squad, Sgt with Combi Melta, Melta Gun, Tank Hunters/Furious Charge

Elites:

-Legion Apothecarion Detachment:

-Apothecary with Augury Scanner (joins a tactical squad)

-Apothecary with Augury Scanner (joins a tactical squad)

-Apothecary (joins the veteran squad)

Heavy Support:

-Landraider Phobos (This will transport the Primarch, The Veterans and the Centurion)

-Legion Sicaran, Las Cannon Sponsons

-Legion Sicaran, Las Cannon Sponsons

Lord of War:

-Horus the Warmaster

So, the list is very straightforward. I like the idea of large Marine blobs (despite some of the shortcomings of such a unit), especially with FnP, their pseudo interceptor, and leadership 10 with a re-roll curtesy of the Primarch and a Vexilla. I could potentially outflank one or both of the units also.

The Landraider will transport Horus, and the Veterans. It will be an assault focused unit that could potentially pop a transport before charging, or if my target is on foot, furious charge makes Horus’ Talon even more deadly. With FNP I don’t think many could stand up to a fight with Horus.

The Sicarans provide the Long Range firepower, and If I’m facing a potential drop pod list then the Tacticals will deploy close by to intercept any Melta/Plasma units that arrive from reserve.

As I'm playing SoH Orbital Assault list, can share some of my experience:

1. Give tactical sergeants an Artificer Armour, usually it is a good investment.

2. Depends on your opponents, usually giving sergeants a Power Fist (which is very cheap in 30k when comparing to 40k) makes a lot of sense and forces your opponent to think twice before accepting a challenge.

3. in 30k your enemies are not force to leave a Drop Pod when they arrive. Which means that your augury scanners will not do anything against them. And even if you will take a combi-melta for sergeants to pop the pod (to shoot them with your second tactical unit), your enemy can argue that RaW for interceptor means that your target has to be in line of sight at the end of enemy movement, which is not because it is hidden in a drop pod. It is up to your gaming group to decide, I think it is just lousy written rules by GW, but some of my opponents feel that they must follow RaW.

If you come up against lots of blast weapons (Typhon etc) your blobs will get wrecked and you'll probably lose straight off the bat. A lucky venator shot (or something similar) into the Land Raider and suddenly Horus has to walk the board, your entire army is pretty slow. Your army has a lot of bodies but very little speed which will hamper you a lot

A 5 man Vet squad will get butchered regardless of Horus being with them or not. Your tactical squads are huge for a 2k game, thinning the heard a little and pick up maybe some more Vets or armoured ceramite on your tanks, a deep striking land speeder squad will have a field day with your tanks.
