Sicaran Tank for Crimson Slaughter/ Chaos

Recommended Posts

So I think another army is getting my new Fire Raptor... perhaps not since the only Chaos flyer I have is the fireturkey.

What do you guys think of me putting a Sicaran in a Crimson Slaughter army?

It is unpainted and I haven't decided 'who is getting it' so to speak. I'm trying to figure out which of my armies 1) benefits most from it, and 2) it makes sense to get it.

The way I figure it, my CS play with World Eaters, so there's that possibility but also the way the CS have been 'raiding' Dark Angel worlds, or any world for that matter, it's plausible they've stolen one....

What do you think as far as its function? Has anyone used one? Do you think it's a real asset for Chaos? Or are the 200 approx points better spent elsewhere?

Sicarian is probably one of our best tanks, more reliable armor than a predator especially if you give it armored cermite, and can reliably deal with pretty much any skimmer especially if you give it lascanon sponsons, all for a pretty good pts cost. Don't have one myself but just at face value I'd recommend one.

Should I give it Las sponsons? Or Hvy Bolter?

Neither, just a Dozer Blade and it's a fine tank for 140 points.

IDK, everyone and their dog pods in melta. At least the ceramite might be a good idea.... no sponsons though? really? Seems like almost a waste.

Thing is, it's still a predator chassis. It's not hard to strip 3 hullpoints off an Av13/12 vehicle. Investing 20 points into something you might not use is also something I personally wouldn't advocate.

I can understand people want to stick Heavy Bolters and the Ammo on it. 9 rending shots extra is fun, but in the end that's what, 1 rending shot on average extra per turn? While you increase the cost with almost 50% and still die as easily? It's not terrible of course, it's a pretty close call, I simply lean towards "no" here.

I think that the reason people like it is the purely psychological enjoyment of getting that jackpot rending roll. Sure you only expect 1 rend for every 9 shots with BS4, but it has a much higher variance in unsaved wounds inflicted against PA and especially TDA than normal heavy bolters. Sure you "probably" won't roll that jackpot 3+ rends per turn of shooting, but the odds are far from vanishingly small, and you do get that gambler's rush when it happens. Also considering the Sicaran is very expensive (in dollars, not points) people will probably want to give it a few extra goodies to really "see" it wipe something out on the table, and to get your opponent to go "it gets how many shots?" Again, not a super competitive tourny consideration, but for me at least, giving certain units "fun" upgrades just to see if they work is a big part of the enjoyment of the game when I do get to play, especially since I consider 40k completely broken from a competitive standpoint and get my tryhard jollies from Starcraft 2.

I have no dramas with a Sicarian in a Crimson Slaughter army. The Warband spent their first days as renegades annihilating other renegades before officially becoming renegades and annihilating non renegades. Whose to say they didn't find, steal, trade, acquire or ask the dark mechanicum to build them one?

  • 4 weeks later...

I like the Sicaran. One of my friends had a SM squad deep strike a little too close to one and his jaw put a dent in the table when he found out how many rending shots were headed there way. A turn latter he lost a one of his fliers to the rapid track. Now, when I play against him, I use it as bait to draw out his anti-tank units or herd his troops into locations where I'm waiting with bottlenecks or no man's lands.

As far as the OP, I thunk it's very helpful to a CS war band and can be very fluffy.

My question is, would it be completely painted in CS colors or left in the other army's colors with Chaos icons and stumbles added?
