[30K] Sons of Horus - Rukal Breacher

You probably stated before, but which paints did you use for your Sons of Horus?

I recently bought the Horus model and want to do him in the green armour with a deep purple cloak (the armour he wore on Davin just before he was stabbed with the athame and when he was "resurrected" on Davin in the Serpent Lodge).

I see a lot of people do him in black armour but precious few in green.

I have admired your painting and wondered what colours you use.

Thanks

Could you write a quick tutorial on how you do your bases, what paints and pigments etc do you use? I would like to try that scheme on my project too smile.png !

Cork and Putty --> paint it with a dark redbrown --> some grass --> Dark Brown pigments (Mostly the one from FW) --> and then at some spots rusty red pigments (think mine are from vallejo)

And thats pretty much it. some times i put some barbed wire or something on the base but in general thats all I do. It's really easy.

Captain Casso Cajastak,
Commander of the 2nd Company - "The Somber and the Pale" , Assault Echolon, Rukal Breacher Battalion

"And the wolves will come at night. And they will hunt you. And they will cast you down and tear you apart limb by limb.
Because it is the nature of the beast to devourer until there is nothing left."

-Malatan Comatus, prophet, Anastorian Empire, Terra, M.8

While most of the Battalion is made of Breacher Units, the second company holds the assault troops of the contingent. Like a spear plunged in the body of an enemy, once the armor is broken they are used to hit at places the enemy lines and fortifications are broken allready.

Wanted to make an DA captain out of this fella, ended up repainting him when I was finished because I loved the model but didn't liked the paintjob I did and changed my mind about the concept of the model. So I swaped the head and the backpack to a jumppack and came up with a leader for my assault/reaver troops.

That model was on my desk for like 4 month, lost motivation several times and I'm very happy to see him finally finished.

cheers.

Got some new pictures today. This assault captain was my last project for 2015. I have plans to give that SoH army finally some bulk in the next year. There's a 10 man reaver squad with jump packs, a 10 man breacher squad and a contemptor wainting to get built but I can't promise you when you will see the first pictures. But it's pretty sure they will not appear in the all to near future since I got a lot to do for university in early 2016 and still got some commissions to paint.

Great chipping on the armour plates, loving the bulk of the model too, gives him a very ominous look.

Thanks mate! The bigger Jetpack from Maxmini was the key to make that look work for an assault marine otherwise the FW jetpacks would have looked unrealistic with that heavy plated custom MK3 armor. I want to mix my next units for this army up: Customized Armor and other Marks than just the MK3 and ofcourse the reavers can't all wear MK3 plates but I still want them to look like they belong to a breacher contingent. And the officers of those bulky warriors must be the even more bulky biggrin.png

Where'd the torso and head come from?

-Torso/Body, Pauldrons and Base are from Alexis Polux.

-Head is based on the tankcrew head. But Hair and the jawpiece are selfmade.

-Arms and Sword are from the MK3 Command Set

-Jetpack is from maxmini

You have just made the model I was envisioning to make as my breacher centurion.... All except the head and backpack.

Part of me now feels like I would be copying you to go ahead and make it, pat of me now has confidence that such a model is possible. The rest of me is trying not to wet myself at how awesome that model looks. :)
