I love your use of the Polux mini. I was considering using him myself, so I would like to ask you if its difficult to remove his IF legion heraldry and such?

No it's not that difficult. Actually I bought 2 of 'em but one is in my project box. The other one will become a Dark Angels Captain, once theire Legion Upgradeparts are out and I muster a little Fallen Angels Detachment ;)

Wow, wondered where my post went...

So as I was saying before...

Simply Awesome, your painting style with the matt green/black/rust and contrasting bright head is fantastic, always enjoy looking at your SoH models.

I'll be back here like a shot as soon as you've completed a breacher squad for a group shot :D

Thank you guys. I really appreciate this so much! I get into discussions with fellow painters very often when they criticize my lack of highlights and contrast in the colourblendings. And it's really not that I can't paint like this or that I dislike it, it's just not my own style. To get praise for your individual style means so much more than just for a well painted miniature.

I mean this in general :  In my opinion it's way more about your own touch to your miniatures than just about well performed painting techniques. Because in the end the whole painting stuff is just a craft and belive it or not, everyone can learn to paint if he invests enough time to learn. But art is what you do with those abilitys.

I started with the chaplain and the first lieutenant today. Problem is that we have 36 to 38 degrees in Vienna these days and I mainly used my airbrush to blow air into my face. But I managed to cork the parts and primed them today. Going to start with the basecolours tomorrow.

The chaplain gets a jumppack and will be part of a ten man reaver squad with jumppacks. The first lieutenant (who is just the MK3 command squad captain becuause that piece looks proper nice) will serve as a centurion/legionchampion in bigger games and in smaler ones he will be my praetor since I don't want to carry around the Alexis Pollux Conversion all the time. The shield and cloak makes him pretty fragile.

Also I decided that I will try to feature my next models with some backgroundstory. I allways wrote fluff and short stories for my other projects but since they were in german which happens to be my native language I felt pretty confindent writing it. But I like to make these things up and it gives a project more depth so I try my best in english from now on.

With this words, cheers and Prost from hot Vienna!

First Lieutenant   Iak "the black fox" Ajatus

The shell detonated infront on him and pulverized the auxiliar troops. Iak had never understood the reason why the Rukal Breachers had to fight with mortal support units. They were utterly unfit for this kind of warfare. What chance has a mortal soldier in an enviorment where demigods died in score at every moment.

He pressed on and led his squad in the next trench. Moribund all of them. Some of the MK3 faceplates where painted with the lower half of a skull but other than that their armor was unadorned. No topknots, no Chtonian Glyphs. The Rukal Breacher have allways had their own cult. Chtonian, Larusian, Terran...it made no diffrence. The Rukal originated from all kinds of squads all over the Legion. They are singled out because of their destructive spirit and their refuse to die in situations which demand certain death.

But most of them would die anyway within weeks or months after their initiation in the ranks of the Breacher batallion. The few who manage to surive for years or decades against all odds are viewed with the utmost respect. They are the elite of this warrior society. They are the Moribund and legend tells they died a long time ago and the spectre of death just forgot to claim them.

Iak jumped in the trench before him. He crushed a human soldier under his feet and cleaved an Imperial Fist Legionary from chrest to groin. After that his squad reached him and turned the narrow trench into a place of complete mayhem. The Imperial Fits Legionarys were young, they where stationed on Taspara as a garrison and haven't fought in too long. No, this was no fight. It was carnage. Utas Tarks vital signs suddenly fell dark in Iaks HUD. He turned around to the postion where Utas, a veteran of many years, had been standing a moment ago. A tall figure in a yellow MK3 Armor was standing above a smashed corpse in veridian livery. The Imperial Fist centurion was lifting his thunderhammer and pointed at Iak. "Prepare to die, traitor!" A smile spread on Iaks face. Then he started laughing. "Finally somebody worth fighting, brother." said Iak over his inbuild helmetspeaker.

So! Summer has been busy but I finished my Second in Command "First Lieutenant Iak Ajatus". He originates from the medieval world of Larusian where he was born in a noble family and learned how to fight with a sword in his early youth. I figured that the Rukal Breacher recruite from many worlds on their way since they have a lot of casualties. Known for his cunning way to wage war and fight in sword to sword combat he earned the titel "the black fox" which is shown in his heraldry on his pauldron. He is second in command and one of the most respected members of the Moribund. The Moribund, as I allready said in the flufftext are the veterans of the Rukal Breacher and all of the Batallions officers and most of its veteran units are recruited from their ranks. The Rukal don't accept leaders from outside their formation, who didn't rose through the ranks of the battalion and so every officer is a man of great respect with the ability to survive for years against all odds.

Chaplain Atanox Pajanas, The faceless, Scourge of Savaia IV

http://i.imgur.com/cWMwkCsh.jpg

_______________________________________________________________________
some music to go with the text...

Atanox Pajanas was standing at the edge of the roof. He leaned forward to look down. Golden light from below painted dreadful shadows across his deathmask. 400 meters below them was the imperial plaza where the citizens of Neo Geneva were gathering to demonstrate against the annexation of Savaia IV through Warmaster Horus. Separated from all forces of the loyalists they were under the pathetic assumption they could peacefully refuse the appropriation. Peace. Atanox never understood the concept nor the desperate longing of the mortal population for it. He turned around to look upon his squad of Reavers. First Reaver Squad of the Rukal Breacher, the bloodless. They stood in the same deep black livery he wore himself. His deep rasping voice sounded through the Vox "It seems the Warmasters proclamation hasn't quite got to those mortals yet. I am under the assumption they think it is... debatable." Dark chuckles came back through the Vox of his squad. "Let's give this proclamation some...emphasis." With this words he leaned back and let himself fall of the edge.

I promised you guys a chaplain and I'm finally here to deliver! As usual I am behind my planed schedule but screw it - You gotta work when the muse kissed you msn-wink.gif (Is that even a saying in english? Dunno if my german proverbs are getting out of control here sometimes msn-wink.gif)

This chaplain was kind of a testmodel for my next project. I usually avoid working with black since it's the most difficult color to master. But my next project kinda needs black so I had to get into it at some point. Something that really helped me understand the color and theory behind it (although I am countless hours away from getting it right) is the tutorial by the Painting Monkeys at Massiv Voodo.

I tried to get a blue/green tone to the black but the final outcome was not what I intended. I also tried to chip the armor with some chipping liquid but went to dark with the redbrown underneath so it is barely visible at the finished model. But I learned from it and even though I didn't got the black right, I am quite pleased with the final miniature.

Next thing up will be a traitor Dark Angels captain. Maybe to lead an allied detachment for my SoH, mby just for my showcase.

Greetings from cold and rainy Austria,
spex
