Imperial Fists that look fresh from the Siege Of Terra....

Hi guys, im going to be building an Imperial Fists army and eventually when im done with that a successor chapter I've made up called the “Devils of Dorn”. Fluff wise they are heavy weapon specialists who were too savage to fly the Imperial Fists flag but were incredible warriors… Brutal or not.. So Dorn made them a small secret chapter that hit the battle lines first and tear a path for the Fists to claim victory.

Enough on that though, getting carried away as always.. First thing is first, Imperial Fists 5th company. I love battle torn troops and vehicles hence the title, I want this army to look mid/end of battle, not polished up for a ceremonial march lol.

I have painted my test mini for the army using a few techniques I have never used before, like AK Interactive heavy chipping and biggest of all, an airbrush! I have never painted a 40k army, I collected a few when I was younger but never painted just built them up. My painting was always done on LOTR and Warhammer minis but I've lost interest in them now and can’t wait to start this.

I don’t have a gaming background even though I've been in and out of this hobby for a good 14/15 years. I’ve always been just a collector so my army may not be the best in terms of a game but it will be the best in terms of  my perspective.

I will stop rambling now and let you see the test mini, next to come is a tac squad and a Adeptus Astartes strikeforce. Wish me luck!

Hail and welcome to B&C brother! I take it that you intend to make this a your painting log (plog), correct? If so, I can move this topic to a more appropriate subforum that gets more foot traffic. ;)

I love the purple bolters!!! I do the same my friend. One suggestion if possible i'd try a darker purple so it contrasts a little better. Looking great though and I love the subtle blood drops. Keep it up!!!

FOR DORN!!!

Oh I am a sucker for battle damaged Imperial Fists.

I do like the yellow you have got there, and the battle damage looks quite nice and different. I'd only suggest perhaps having a little metal in the middle to give some contrast to the damage itself. I do really like the purple/pink bolter, as it is a really nice shade. Although it does look a little out of place on the marine, so I would be tempted to dull it down a bit with some Nuln Oil or perhaps go for darker shades such as black or dark red.

Still, a very nice start and these boards could always do with more Imperial Fists armies. Thanks for sharing! Cheers!

Yeah I was thinking the exact same thing. I washed the whole thing with a 60/40 mix of umber and black shade from vallejo, think I might just use that for everything but the purple and go 100% black shade for that.

Thanks for the comments, I've read the log you have a few times lately, amazing stuff. Yeah I was thinking of adding highlights into the battle damage, it's weird though because I use Vallejo Tinny tin as the base colour for the chipping it has a mix of light and dark metals but it doesn't come out on camera. I agree with the purple, rather than a 60/40 of umber and black wash I'll try it with just black and then build it up from there. I didn't know if I should add a 3rd level of highlights to the yellow?
