Order of the Burnished Heart - A WIP

Kriegsmacht

Recommended Posts

Hi all after being months away I decided to jump back to 40k and do some painting. Found a spray primer that's been working great for metal miniatures so I figured I'd go back to Sisters of Battle. My mission is to build a good size force of sisters so I can start playing games this summer or earlier.

First I'll show a pic of a Priest and three Death Cult Assassins that I put together and painted for last years ETL. I'm hoping to do more this year.

Since the week-end I've been painting a group of Battle Sisters. I don't have a name for them yet so far I just want to get the colors down and try different things. A lot of touch ups need to be done with the armor. I changed my plans with the fabric by drybrushing so lesson learned for the next batch: Paint armor last! laugh.png

Armor is Screaming Bell for base and will get some other colors this week-end for highlights. Fabric is base Uniform Grey(army Painter), drybrush Celestra grey and again with white while the back of the fabric is blue. I will be painting the face plates and icons yellow with some silver and gold thrown in.

Here is a list of what I have right now:

The previously mentioned Priest and 3 Death Cult Assassins

2 Sister Superiors(one with bolt pistol & chainsword, one with bolter and power sword)

2 flamers

2 meltas

12 Sisters with bolters

Currently painting these miniatures

Saint Celestine the Living Saint

Cannoness with chainsword & Inferno pistol

Battle Mistress of Repentance

6 Sisters repentia

Currently having primer removed in Simple Green

I have on order at local game store:
Immolator

Battle Sister with Multi Melta

Battle Sister with Simulacrum Imperialis

Would this be good/ok/average(lol) as a start for a Sisters force? Thanks all in advance for checking this out. I'll try to update as soon as I can.

That looks like a good start !

In terms of what to aim for, considering what you have:

- Celestine Squad with 5 Seraphim, 2 Hand flamers (or at least 1). This is quite a strong HQ Unit (seraphim are FA), as Celestine on her own does not do too well...
- If you can get 4 Dominions with Melta-guns into a Multi-Melta Immolator, that is one of the "core" sisters of battle Units.
- I would really recommend purchasing an Exorcist - Great model, both in game terms and in looks ;)
- You can then play around with the other Squads, depending on which works best for you:
Mistress with Repentia Squad.
DCA with priest and the canoness could be quite nice.
You will need 2 Troops, the best probably being 5 Sisters, 2 flamers (consider 1 Heavy Flamer) in a Rhino (so you can use the 2 flamers, 1 Superior, 2 Boltgun sisters) and then a Squad with the rest: Superior + 10 Sisters + Simulacrum sister, and the priest could go with these guys quite well. Consider bringing this Squad (currently 12 Sisters) to the max of 20 Sisters. They also work well with 1 Melta-Gun and 1 Heavy Flamer.

As Such, your "To Buy" list for improvement would probably look like this, in order of "most needed":
- Exorcist (at least 1, but aim for 2 or 3 in the long-term)
- Sister with Melta-gun (this is usually the "most used" sister)
- Sister with Heavy Flamer (have 1 or 2 at least)
- Rhino(s)
- Seraphim (a Set of 5 will do, can increase if needed)
- just filling out squads: Repentia is 10-Girls; The "main" sister squad works well with 20 (and priests x 2-3); The Death Cult work well at 6-7 with 2-3 Crusaders (and priests).

Hope these suggestions help ;)

Canoness with Cloak of St aspira, inferno pistol (Warlord, try to get the 5+ invulnerable shield of faith trait, she will go with the Repentia in this case, otherwise...)

Saint Celestine the Living Saint (goes on her own unless the Canoness is not with the Repentia, then she should go with them to tank.

7 Repentia

5 Battle Sisters with 2 meltaguns, superior with bolt pistol and chainsword, meltabombs.

Immolator Dedicated Transport with dozer blade, laud hailer and Multi-melta.

13 Battle Sisters with 2 flamers, Veteran Superior with power sword, melta bombs, Simulacrum Imperialis.

Comes to 744 points, and uses all but 1 model from your collection. It's about the best list I can make with that collection but it is very ropey and has a lot of weaknesses. Best thing to do would be to run the Repentia up behind the Immolator with a tanking character and wolfpack the enemy. Plenty of anti-tank, anti-cc, anti Monstrous creature and decent anti-infantry though. Your mobility will suck! tongue.png

Best things you can buy for these models next is more special weapons, some heavy flamers, some priests and of course Sister superiors, but before any of that, get at least one Rhino/Repressor... it will REALLY help!

EDIT: In my opinion you'd be better waiting on getting an Exorcist until your main army is built up a bit more.

Thanks for the tips guys. I'm going to the store tomorrow to see if there's a Rhino in stock and see if my order was placed(they need a minimum shipping requirement). If it hasn't I might add a couple more to it like a Sister with heavy flamer and another melta sister or another pack of Sisters with bolters. I'll probably try to make another priest again since that was fun.

The Exorcist I'll probably get down the road. It'll probably be a while before I start on any of this so I might have some Vows for the next ETL. I'll try to update soon with more progress.

Rather than a Rhino, you should see about another Immolator. They're roughly the same price and the Immolator comes with a wealth of bitz and pieces that your conversion fingers will simply adore.

I just checked the site and they are the same price. Plus seeing them side by side they just look cooler.

I think i'm going to make my first attempt at magnets. was thinking of using them for the guns on the turret. What size of magnets would be good? I know the store has a couple packs I see them before.

Hey all was at the hobby store today and picked up my order. Really happy that the Immolator is all plastic. I Thought there were going to be metal bits involved.

Do have a question. A box I am always seeing on the shelf is the Witch Hunter Inquisitor with Retinue. It's been there for a long time and I was wondering if that's a good purchase for SoB. It has the inquisitor of course but what caught my eye is the Hospitaller, a Crusader, an Acolyte plus some others. Would it be a good idea to pick this up?

Edit: Deleted two lines involving Diologus. I realized that they're part of an Order so no men which I think the mini I mentioned is. happy.png

It's a good buy. The Dialogous was originally an alternate model for the Savant, which is what scroll-guy is, so using him as one isn't a stupid idea. The Crusader is useful and the Hospitaller is one of the nicest models in our range. :)

Not much of an update just a happy update. Well happy for me at least. biggrin.png Bought the box set of the Witch Hunter Inquisitor with Retinue. Yayyyy

It receives my seal of approval. thumbsup.gif

Can't wait to get these out and about. I know I can definitely use the Hospitaller and Crusader. Miko said the guy with the big scrolls can be used as a Dialogus so that's good. Only other option was to get the actual model and cut off her eyes and put a bandage around her head.
I was thinking of using the masked guy on his knees with chains as an Arco-flagellant. I'll try to build others from whatever I have lying around.
So that's four minis out of seven. Inquisitor I don't think i'll use but will still paint him up later. The Cherub and Acolyte I really like but i'm not sure what I can use them for.
Anyways still painting away with the Battle Sisters. Will put up an update on those later on. Thanks for looking. smile.png
Edit: Oh score! I just opened it up and found a transfer sheet staring right at me. Sweeeeet.

You could use the Inquisitor as a Priest with a little tweaking of his Inquisition icons.  Acolyte could also be an Arco-flagallent and the Cherub?  either use it as a marker for when Celestine pegs it or just use it as an objective marker? :p

As Miko says, they usually just fit on without magnets. But if you want to go the magnets route, i think that the attachment is EXACTLY 3mm wide. So 3mm magnets (about 1-2mm thick) are just perfect.

  • 2 weeks later...

Hello all!

Started work on my first of five Arco-Flagellants. I really like the Sicarians and thought they'd make good Arcos...still do. smile.png

Here's the first one. I was a little bummed out that the neck is part of the torso 'cause I did have an idea in my head about what to do with the heads but I don't want to commit to sawing the neck off. I already was hesitant about sawing the feet 'cause I wasn't sure how that would turn out. in the end I'm happy with it.

I plan on making some armour plates out of plasticard to cover the cut seam between the feet and the hands I used. Changing the fingers for the left foot was a bit of a pain but with my skills at converting I think I did ok.

With the thumbs cut off the arms that made it easier because I was going to cut the arms up anyways to make the weapons.

Let me know what you think. Thanks for looking.

Here's my five Arco-Flagellants so far without the arms. Now just need to make the flails on the end of the sicarian arms. Was thinking of using guitar strings but the ends of the arms are small so will work on that.

Again let me know what you all think. Sorry for the shoddy pics it's the best I can do right now. Thanks for looking.

Oh also why can't Sicarian have left hands? would have helped make the feet so much easier. Sucks there were only 5 hands on the sprues so only two have the modified feet.

Hi all small update.

Been fiddling around with one of my Arcos seeing what I can do. Was inspired to try something out from the two page spread pic in the Witch Hunters codex so I tried making a bars type crown thing with pieces of Brass Etch. That fell apart....literally. So then I decided to give something new a try. I cut up one of the Sicarians backpacks, turned it upside down, and added guitar wire as cables. Was a little annoying trying to get the wire in the little holes I drilled and bend them around but I did it. Yay.

Here's some pics to show it off.

Let me know what you think. Thanks for checking it out.

Hi all finished the cables. Again first time using guitar strings for conversions and I will be using them again when needed. smile.png

Now I need help. All I have left to do now is work on the arms and I plans on using the Sicarian arms up to the wrist. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can use to make the flails that'll be attached to the wrists?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks for looking. smile.png

These are looking cool Kriegsmacht.

I'd be inclined to stick with the guitar wire for the flails as well...  They look quite "techy" anyway, so it will fit in nicely.  The risk with using more "flail-like" bits is that many of them come from Fantasy kits, and might look a bit out of place...  I think that 3-4 bits of guitar wire (perhaps 1 or 2 different thicknesses) would look good, and it fits in with the arco-flagellant aesthetic as well (look up the Inquisitor model called "Damien 1427" for an idea of what I mean...)

It could be worth checking out the Dark Eldar range as well, as they have lots of tiny plastic chains that could be made to work.

Some great looking Arco conversions you have here mate - good stuff! B)

Looking good Krieg! Liking the Arcos so far, and they'll look even better properly armed ;)

Have you considered using the chains from the Khorne Wrathmongers set?

Though I'm not sure what a good servant of the Throne like you would do with all the Chaos Icons laugh.png

Thanks Aeternas

I already went through my bitz boxes and found some Dark Eldar chain weapons and flail/mace/something weapons from Chaos Marauder sprues I ordered a long time ago.

Those Wrathmongers are nice though...well for burning but still very nice. :P lol

Hey all

I've now finished my five Arco-Flagellants. Started on the first one with guitar strings as the flails. Then decided to use different weapons for the other Arcos but kept the flail look.. Let me know what you think. Thanks for looking.

Just need to finish the bases then I can start painting then for one of my ETL vows.
