Greetings! Welcome to my attempt at moving forward with a personal project. I have a love for Space Hulk and a gamers passion for being extreme with my visions. I will be showing my progress in the miniatures I will be using and the supplemental 'terrain' that will be used for the game floor tiles.

Stay tuned as I get my feet steady and know how to show you what I plan on doing.

Well, to start with I have started my miniature collection with these guys from Centerpiece Miniatures:

I have had a very positive experience with them and will have images as well as my impressions. Take a look at their website:

Next would be the floor tile system that basically is identical to the Space Hulk game system. These come from Fenris Games:

These are from the Sulaco floor tile system. If it sounds familiar, it's because it's the name of the vessel from the movie Alien. He is working on multiple varieties of sections and it was my choice for my plan. Check out his website for excellent products:

I also have some additional pieces that I have gotten from Fenris as well as Secret Weapons. Just little things to make the experience more immersive. I will be getting an airbrush to make the bulk painting a joy. I should also be getting a tutorial video on painting the Tyranids as well as the Terminators. Here is Secret Weapons website:

I will be giving my full rundown of all the items I'm getting, as well as my process of what I'm going to be doing with the floor tiles, accessories and the additional miniatures I will be using in my games.

I will be looking at various sources on achieving certain effects for the tiles such as weathering and OSL.

Any advice, tips or websites would be appreciated.

I'm curious to know what your goal is? What are you trying to accomplish beyond having a beautifully painted Space Hulk set.

I guess the Sulaco floor sets resin? The picture on their site doesn't really convey too much. If so, that's pretty cool.

Oh, and the cost of the commission how much was that? I get lazy and may ask him to paint mine up. If you don't want to post it, just send me a message.

The overall plan is to have a 3D set of Space Hulk. Floor tiles, walls, doors, objectives and possibly tokens. I'm even looking to make a 3D version of the Mission Status Display. I wanted to have a "WOW!" factor. It's just a cool thing to do for an awesome game. I suppose it's the little things, it makes it more of a hobby-type of game than just a board game. It's a little extra, but worth the effort. I used to go to Florida-based gaming conventions (Suncoast Skirmishes) and had the privilege of playing on someones system that was over the top and it left an impression on me. If I could do the same thing, then I'll be very happy.

On a side note, I was looking at the helpful hits in regards to posting pictures and I'm not getting it. I suppose I could just post links like I did before, but I would prefer to have them in the post. Am I missing something simple? Message me if anyone has some tips.

@vampyrerodent - yeah, they are resin, so pictures don't do them justice. They are the same configuration as the Space Hulk tile sets and I also ordered a ton more for extra! I'm using 40mm bases for the miniatures, so they should fill the corridors. I'll send you a message about their prices.

Sounds like a very cool project to follow!

As for the images you will either need to host them somewhere ( website or Photobucket etc. )  or upload them to your gallery here and us the My Media button.  If they are hosted on another site use the BB Code or the pick button to embed it into your post.  hope this helps - great looking models and bases!

Hey, thanks Truckin'! Thanks for the various replies in helping me get this rollin'! Very excited to get things going! My main source for influences for my theme came from Garfy at Tale of Painters. I'm only assuming that you all have seen his work and the website. If not here's a link or two:

Tale of Painters: http://taleofpainters.blogspot.com/

Deathwing Terminators: http://taleofpainters.blogspot.com/2014/09/tutorial-how-to-paint-deathwing.html

Tyranid Genestealers: http://taleofpainters.blogspot.com/2012/04/tutorial-garfys-tyranid-scheme-with-new.html

I'll be trying both a white-based and black-based primer on the Terminators to see the best way for me to paint. I will also be trying some various techniques for weathering and OSL. Those I will be using mostly on the floor tiles. The cool thing about the floor tiles is they can be magnetized!

Um, if you are painting more Deathwing Terminators, go with a white primer. Hand painting to a bone white, or so, over black can be really tedious, really quick. If you can, I would recommend spraying the base on over a white primer via spray can or air brush to get it smoother and quicker. I'm all about painting things up fast.

I'm curious to see how the floor tiles come out. With the magnetizing, aren't you running into the issue of some pieces not fitting due to polarity?

With the polarity issue, it's easy. Once you get the knack for mounting them.

Here's a good tutorial:

Once you figure out the "One" to start your miniature/game piece, then the rest follows. I'll put some photos with this particular post this weekend. Super easy!

Sorry about no updates this past weekend, I ended up working two 12 hour shifts at the hospital, no way it was going to happen. I'm going to post some images of the miscellaneous item to be used in the game, pre-painted, pre-prepped. I will also post them in the WIP section.

Have a great day ya'll!

  • 2 weeks later...

Sorry about no updates, I'm heading out of town for a week and I've been crazy busy. On the positive side, I should have my commission from Centerpiece Miniatures here when I return!

Promise to have some images here soon.
