I suppose this is my wip thread if the mods don't mind.

Thanks for the support so far. There are some sword brethren terminators progress pics in my gallery...

Will try to do some better progress updates... it's Mardigras and my new phone's machine spirit is uncooperative...

Thanks

BA SGT Bit

working on Converting Space Hulk Terminators into Sword Brethren Terminators.

noticed a Black Templar like "Maltese Cross" among the Sgt's knickknacks.  (the dangly thing furthest on the right side of the image... the Marine's left side.)

i also have 4 more SBT's built from the DWing kit i'll have to post up soon.

All the other crosses are definitely crux terminus. This one is

Distinct, having only 2 arms visible and they very much look like a Maltese to me.

As for converting them, I have no fear. This is my second set of them, the first will stay original as blood angels. This second set I picked up just for this. .. (ok I wanted the 2 new missions, and relevant pieces also)

My flgs had a habit of having big boxes of stuff lying about king after out of print. .. hence the second space hulk and the shields of baal kit I picked up a while back.

Thanks for the concern tho, they are excellent minis...

Wow. I'm way out of date...

But I've completed my etl vowed Marshall with terminator armour, burning blade and stormshield.

And have since vowed 5 of my crusaders to support the imperial fists vs the iron warriors.

And I've aquire the formerly rare terminator captain from strike force ultra via his new deathwatch blister... not bad, plus DW parts for a future project perhaps...

Poor guy will be utilized as a terminator sgt tho. But I really needed it to make the numbers work, so win.

So...

Update coming soon. Thanks to IFE IV

Bit until then I need someplace to document this, your thoughts are appreciated...

Color coding specialist initiates.

Ive decided to paint the vents on power armoured initiates with special, heavy and power weapon upgrades so they can be quickly identified by their Marshall and directed as needed...

For now the code is as follows. Reading vents left to right.

Special weapons

Melta = black, red

Plasma = black, blue

Grav gun = black, green

Flamer = black, orange

Storm bolter = black, yellow

Heavy weapons

Missile = white, white

Heavy bolter = yellow, yellow

Lascannon = purple, purple

Plasmacannon = blue, blue

Heavy flamer = orange, orange

Multimelta = red, red

Gravcannon = green, green

Melee

Power sword = blue, black

Power maul = green, black

Power axe = orange, black

Relic blade = gold, black

Power fist = yellow, black

Eviscerator = red, black

Thunderhammer = white, black

Lightning claw(s) = purple, black

Did I miss any obvious ones?

Obviously sword brethren are excluded from this as they can more freely choose from the armoury.

Interesting idea. Do you have an example to show of how this looks? I'm not sure I get the concept just yet.

Cheers,

Good timing...  my completed IFE IV Vow!!!  did some with and without flash shots, sometimes you get a better look at certain details one way or another.  not bad for the 2nd thru 7th models ive painted since i ended my 11 year hiatus a year ago(need to check)

if you look the melta and power axe follow the scheme i was imagining.  its not to blatant i think, but it will allow quick ID for me with whichever squad the Initiate has joined.  ie this is instead of squad markings because we form squads on an ad hoc basis.  therefore the initiate is identified by HIS specialization, not his unit.

Stuff you CODEX, we do things OUR way!

So apparently trying to quote Honda here is broken and it won't load the page when I attempt...

But...

Chaplain Honda, unique. Special rule, if he can see a witch then all other units are invisible to him gaining a 2+ Reroll able cover save and he can only make snap shots against them.

Lol

Ok. Since this is my black templars WIP thread...

I have decided to build objective markers.

Some generic some themed for each of my armies, but in this thread i will focus on my templar specific ones...

The first few are going to be easy. 2 generics. First the 'homing beacon' from the terminator box, the second and third are the C.A.T.s from 2 copies of space hulk. Then the 4th is the long dead BA terminator from space hulk and for the 5th a converted to templar of the same long dead terminator.

The ancient dead sword brother terminator will be the most work I imagine.

But what else should I build especially BT themed? I'll look thru ye Olde bit box.

I did a few myself:

A black sword half-embedded in the ground - something the crusade can fight and die to retrieve ;)

I also turned the DA 'watcher' into a pilgrim/Serf/servitor guy carrying a relic sword.

I've got a planted banner as well, will get painted up to bear the crusade badge.

The nephilim gun was turned into a plinth with a holy orb of Antioch mounted on it as well :P

Less Templar specific;

The stasis-bomb from the nephilim became a bomb on countdown, and a vindicator shell/ammo crate became a mumitions dump.

Special thanks to Ace for fixing weird hidden tag bug.

Been a bad week for hobbying and recent rumours are killing my mojo. . But my WF-FDN vow has been primed and fully gone over with black, so... I need to go over them once more and make sure the dark recesses are saturated then move on.

To avoid opening to many WIP threads I'll detail some of my plans here. Forgive me if this is repetitive I haven't reread my own thread.

I have 60 mk3 marines on spru, I intended to use 20 for ironwarrios, 20 for black templars and 20 for imperial fists... I have a glut of 3rd edition tactical marines thst need spruced up, but since I'm revamping my crusade and including these 20 mk3s, idk if I want to keep all 30+ish 3rd ed tacticals as templars. I had been planning on building a full 100+ man battle co that was 50/50 IF/CF and some of those tacticals could go a long way! Plus I have 10 of the newest tacticals on spru still also.

Thing is I want 12 Cataphracti terminators for my IW, which obviously justifies 2 copies of B@C right? And then I would have 60 mk4 marines to dive up... I would probably use ar least 10 for my BT for some variety of marks... and I could easily use 20 for my IF/CF project, ad maybe 10 for IW... unfortunately the FA stuff is calling my name and I could use some bits elsewhere so maybe I'll get 2 DA vet sets t add to 10 mk4 and get 20 fallen!

The last 10 mk4 could blend in with my word bearers perhaps...

But I still have back burned some plans to revitalize the BA I inherited from my brother when he quit the hobby a decade ago.. so many things...

So... how do I retroactively truescale everything?

I am rejecting the primaris astartes fluff... I'll use whatever rules suit the unit... a slightly more elite unit of multi wound veterans is ok since there is currently to much of a leap from a current veteran to a captain...

I avoided true scale for the hassle but if as I suspect all new kits from here on out will be truscale then I will want to slowly bring the old stuff up to speed.

Will need some numarines for reference when they come out, then it's off to work...

Well, I'd say the answer is: you don't. I asked myself the same question when official pictures turned up on GW's website for a brief moment.

Take some time, wait for the release of these new Marines, then move to making any decisions. I'm not sure whether you have any metal models in your collection, but they will be a problem. For your plastic, regular Marines - that's too much of an effort, I suppose. If you really want to do that, you have to bear in mind that vehicles could use a rescale as well. You can cut/saw the legs and add 1 mm plasticard in two places and this should do the trick, but I'd say it's not worth it. I even wanted to do that to my Crusade. What stopped me was our metal EC, Helbrecht, Sword Brethren, Grimaldus, etc. and a certain stubbornness to accept the extremely cheap change in 40K background.

Sure, I can imagine that people working on the newer Marines really believe that this Guilliman-spawned force is cool and are enthusiastic about it an whatnot, but I honestly don't believe that. That is why I recommend immunity to the paranoia/hype GW intends to start throughout the community in their effort to make a profit. Patience.

This is the best I can do ;) You're not alone, Brother.

Well. For one. I'm ignoring the fluff... I'm seeing this as what it is... GW is finally correcting the scale f it's marines but they have to much invested into what is probably at least half of their total manufacturing capability to abandon the current scale of marines until the molds and masters wear out.

So bad fluff, extra rules etc...

Numarines are here and the old ones will be phased out as the molds wear out and new numarines scaled molds arrive to fill their places...

So I will move forward, I won't surrender my hobby... but I will inevitably want my older models to look decent next to the new ones...

Obviously as you say, characters and other unique models are nearly impossible... especially my older metal ones... they simply be phased out over time... idk
