Yes please share how you get that shade of red on your models! Im new and just starting the hobby and I love that shade. Much better than the plane Mephiston Red that Im using. I bought all of my paints going by the colors of Citadel paints Duncan Rhodes uses in his 'How to' tutorial on the BA Tactical Marine and yours wins by far

Haha sure thing , I have struggled a long time too get the red right its by far the hardest color too paint so I will shear what I have learned :smile.:

1 ! never ever ever paint it over black primer , I always use withe or light grey (baal is basecoted in army painters uniform grey) Astorath in withe

The main color for my blood angels is Vallejo air red , I like it because its more purple tone then orange so its a good start

I now paint all the reseses in Vallejo air mahogny and then  Druchii Violet (thin ..no washing )

Then I start blending up the color with vallejo flat red , I think its a rich red and not to bright

Now I ad the first highlight its flat red + GW Flayed One Flesh (but any ligth skintone will do fine)

Then I glaze it with army painters red tone (its the same as GWs old Baal red wash) the new  Carroburg Crimson its grate but its a bit to dark for shading ..but I will use it later

Now I tuch up the highlights 2-1 mix falt red and flesh

And as a final fix a thin thin red glaze on it

however Astorath is painted in a darker tone ..the teknik is the same but I use this colors

Base GWs khorn red

wash Carroburg Crimson

Paint in all the lines Druchii Violet /black (nuln oil)

highlight vallejo air red

highlight vallejo flat red

wash red tone

highlight flat red + flesh

------------------------------------------

And now the gold :smile.:

Its P3 brass balls /vallejo air gold (if I have to paint a large area)

Vallejo Modell color gold (or GW Auric Armour Gold)

glaze Druchii Violet (yes this is the secrete;)

Highlight army painters Shining Silver

hope that helps you in your painting

I will have to hit my local Hobby Lobby to pick up some Vallejo paints. I have mostly Citadel right now with some Vallejo and a little Army Painter. My first trip to Hobby Lobby I didnt know what I was doing or looking for (The store is brand new here. I live out in the Boonies) and a week after I got into the hobby I realized they carried the Vallejo Brand of paints. Could have saved some money over all of this Citadel Paint I bought since then LOL

Well I see it this way ..you can never have to much colors ;)

I use many brands as the color that  are difrent form each other but I dont think one is better then the other

Vallejos flat red is a different red then citadels ..thats all, so keep the citadels and be happy you have more colors to paint with

And heres my first taq marine ..Im in love with the 32mm bases they look so much better on them :D

Wow, absolutely stellar work so far. All of your work has a very rich, vibrant look to it without going too far into cartoony. Great business.

Do you mind elaborating a bit on you painted Astorath's axe? Blue power weapons are a bit of a passion of mine ^_^

Wow!  Your use of a brighter red really brings me back to classic BA.  The Baal Predator is especially appealing, to me; everything on it is so crisp and vibrant looking.  That glow effect on the headlights is particularly impressive.  Keep it coming!
