Returning Player has questions about paints

My brothers, I come to you in this, my time of need. My time of questions.

I recently returned to the hobby and with it, to my Dark Angels. The last time I seriously played, Ed.4 was current.

And with it, all my supplies are from that time. Including my paints.

Now I did hear about the citadel color change, but since I still had some Dark Angels Green, I didn't mind. But now, after even more time, my supply of this beloved colour has dried out.

I tried to supplement with Vallejo's Dark Green. But I found the colour to be too thin and glossy.

I tried Caliban Green with a bit of Warpstone Glow as a highlight colour, since my DA are relatively bright.

But nothings seems to fit. How have you adjusted? Any other manufacturers I could try, or mixes I should test?

Also, if you have access to the Army Painter line, see if you like the look of Angels Green.  But overall, I think the new system lets you duplicate older colors once the glaze is used, as Bryan says.  The advantage is that it will help tone down your highlights too.

First round of testing.

I am missing Warpstone Glow and Army Painter Angel Green, so further testing has to be done. Very glad(os) about it.

I've posted about my testing in my WiP topic, but it makes sense to post here as well.

Here are the test minis.

Marine 1: that is my main color scheme. I really like the lighter, stronger green. Dark Angels Green with Snot green

Marine 2: Cailiban Green basecoat, 2 highlights with Caliban Green + Warboss Green and then 2 wash layers of Vallejo Dark Green.

Marine 3: Caliban Green basecoat with highlighting of Caliban Green +  Snot Green

Marine 4: Vallejo Dark Green basecoat, Vallejo Dark Green + Warboss Green highlight. These colors did not mix well.

I am gravitating towards Marine 2, although I still have to try out more color mixes, so I took some more pictures of 1 & 2

Then I also tried out something new with my robes

Marine 1: The old way. Codes Grey, Fortress Grey, Skull Grey

Marine 2: Vallejo Cold Grey, Agrax Earthshade,  Vallejo Stonewall Grey, Vallejo Dead White

Marine 3 + 4: Vallejo Stonewall Grey, Agrax Earthshade, Vallejo Stonewall Grey, Vallejo Dead White

I have to say, I kinda like Marine 2. But I'm not sure, if the brown isn't too strong.

Like I said, I will test some more when I get the other paints, but I could really use some feedback.

I just discovered the Vallejo Dark Green ink today and picked up a bottle.  I'll be trying it out some time  I've been wanting something with a bit more black tint than the Biel-Tan wash I normally use.
