Gorthaur's Skitarii of Mars

Wait until you tackle the dune crawlers lol the legs are a nightmare !

Thats why I haven't bought one yet, honestly im much more interested in the Cult Mechanicus stuff thats coming up than the Skitarii walkers. But meh, never say never!

Edit: does anyone know if the Skitarii transfer sheet is sold out for good? was it a limited run or might they restock in eventually?

I was thinking it might be worth getting, for the original 20$ price, the ones on ebay are absurd, 50 bucks for a transfer sheet??

The big transfer sheet has the option to email you when it restocks, so I would hope that it'll restock at some point.  GW tends to remove truly limited items from the store within a few days of them selling out.

Yep, I knew about that but its been out of stock for a while and I started to wonder!

I finished another ranger today and the last two are about half complete, exciting stuff. The thought of doing another ten is a bit daunting though, not going to lie.

I'm going to be starting a Vanguard squad soon; hoping that the reduced details on the simple helmets and the smaller firearms will make them an easier paint.  That said, while the Onager's legs are definitely an awkward initial assembly, it paints up very easily and has an impressive profile, especially when you pose it near Skitarii infantry.  There really is an overarching aesthetic in this army which I feel has been somewhat ignored in certain other recent releases.

Indeed if I did ten more i'd do vanguard. Just for varieties sake and they look a tad simpler because I don't have to put 5 layers of red paint on their heads. I did minimal sub assembles on these guys, im not sure if it would have been faster if I left the heads and backpacks off. I am absolutely thrilled with the aesthetic of this army though.

New images of the Kastellan bots came out today, they are looking pretty sharp.

Hmm, I dodged out on the cream color for the Onager. I suppose that would be a pain. The red I'm using is that new Mephiston Red foundation, which goes down super smooth over Vallejo Black Primer. It shades easily with GW wash too.

Definitely digging the robots. Mrs. Vel'Cona almost has me convinced to "bling" them out when I get them, with some fiber-optic lighting in the helmets. It does sound pretty cool, but all that wiring . . . sleep.png

The Infiltrator princeps head has a tweaked visor so if I can't fix it im going to have to run ruststalkers cause its damaged. That or get a replacement online wacko.png its like the sprues chafed together and wore it down.

Brilliant stuff! These guys look like straight out of a WD picture but more grimdark paintscheme and thus more appealing to me. biggrin.png Is this unhooded head included in the sprue? Love it! And would you mind sharing the colours you used on the skin of the head of the alpha??

Thanks, yes the unhooded one and several other odd techy heads are on the rangers sprue.

The skin was kind of a random thing, my memory on it is iffy. I'd say I used bugmans glow as a base, then the older tallarn flesh paint mixed with a little grey. Then highlighted with pure astronomican grey, then washed with a thin coat of thraka green to give it a sickly look.

Thanks guys, I was thinking about doing a simple tutorial for the bases. Its really easy if you have the paints needed. I managed to get the infiltrators head looking alright but still haven't had a chance to put a coat of primer on them. Its raining right now, and looks like it will be for a couple days so definitely not the right conditions for spraying outside. If the Kastelans show up on time I might just spray them all in one batch so its less of a hassle.

I managed to assemble a couple Kastelans and scrap up two objective markers!

I finished working on the two objective markers, and begun slapping paint on the Kastelan robots (which are really nice models actually).

Really like your objective markers; I'm getting inspired to work on mine now!  How are you finding the Kastelans to paint (about to start 2 Maniples, myself)?

Thanks, they take a bit of work to assemble (the legs come in alot of pieces). But they look really nice when they have some pain on em!

Thanks, for the Kastelans I just paint the base first. And then I find it easier to paint the entire thing the main color your going to use, then put leadbelcher where it needs to be, and then tidy up with red. And then wash with nuln oil. Its a bit time consuming as every time I highlight the metal colors I mess up the red, and have to go back and tidy up. They definitely look cool though, worth all the effort.

Finished the first Sicarian infiltrator, they are less work than the rangers. It still took a bit of time to complete however.
