Returning after a 6 or 7 year absence

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

as the title says I'm returning to the hobby after a fair old hiatus, that started coincidentally around the time of 5th edition's release. I got into 40k through the Space Crusade game, in around 1995, so about 20 years ago. In my time I've owned Marines, Dark Eldar, Tau, Lost and Damned, Witch Hunters, Daemon Hunters and Imperial Guard, but I've sold most of these to fund life, leaving pretty much just my marines, The Hounds of Erinn.

I'm hoping to get an idea of how the game has changed over this time, I've yet to buy the 40k rulebook but have acquired the Marine codex from eBay, and any new tactics or ideas I can pick up along the way would be an added bonus.

Hail and well met! It's good to see another veteran joining the boards, especially one eager to jump back in to the game. Enjoy your stay, brother. :)

Welcome back! smile.png

You are not alone. I am also trying to piece it all back togeather and figure out what has changed after a gap of several years. The community here is extremely hepful and is an extraordinary source of all things game and lore related. Im sure you will be up and running in no time! biggrin.png

The Hounds of Erinn you say? you have piqued my curiosity. I look forward to finding out more... huh.png

First tip, ditch the Space Marine Codex and pick up a Chaos Marine Codex. Chaos, Chaos is strong.....

Dark Vengeance isn't a bad place to start an army and with some conversion work all the miniatures are usable.

Thanks for the welcome, guys.

@Argentius The Hounds of Erinn came about due to 4th ed chapter traits where I wanted a small, elite, stealthy army. So repainted my Ultramarines purple (don't ask, I was in a purple phase) and set about coming up with a backstory. A lot of people were doing DIY chapters, but no-one I knew were doing a Celtic one. So I thought I would. In essence they're Irish Celts, (think Finn MacCool and the Fianna), with a dose of Anglo-saxon thrown in.

@Lucio Interestingly my rhinos were bought as Chaos rhinos. They were the same price as SM ones, but came with spiky bits. I toyed with the idea of an Alpha Legion army with 3.5 codex, using my marines as stand ins for marines and guard for cultists for a while, but then 4th edition codex came out and it kinda lost the feel of an Alpha Legion army for me.
