+++E Tenebrae Lux IV - Horus Heresy Strategium+++

Recommended Posts

WIP number one for my (slower than intended) first vow. Base coats all done, hoping to smash out the metallics tomorrow before moving onto the trim/highlighting/basing on the weekend. Such is the plan. We'll see how it's still standing after first contact with the enemy that is paint

I'd say you've done more than enough to carry us towards victory brother. However your previous posts has kindled an ambition of mine for this year's contest. A big midnight clad ambition

Scion of Ferrus, one of my favourite.

Rolltonotdie, as long as they are in one of the Heresy books, which they are, they are fine. So go for it. If I manage to get my second bow done I may add some Taghmata for my third. Big if at this point.

Excellent!  In that case...

I Rolltonotdie rise a second time to the challenge of E TENEBRAE LUX and vow to complete

6 Thallax Battle Automata with 2x Phased Plasma Fusils 285pts

6 Thallax Battle Automata with 2x Photon Thruster 305pts

2 Castellax Battle Automata with Mauler Bolt Cannons 170pts

1 Thanatar Siege Automata with Enhanced Targeting Array & Paragon of Metal 290pts

for a total value of 1050 points  from the age of darkness army lists on or before August 1st, 2015. Success will bring eternal glory to the IV Legion and failure will doom me to bear the Badge of the Oathbreaker until the year-end!

Onwards! To Victory!

Alright, I finally have some progress to update. It's not much, but it's something. I'm also adding a heavy flamer to the squad, upgrading the sarge with a combi-melta and a grenade harness, and giving the Praetor a grenade harness as well. New point values:

Praetor in Cataphractii armor, armed with a master-crafted Paragon mace, Volkite Charger, Iron Halo, Grenade Harness, & Trophies of Judgement at 202 pts

Nine Cataphractii Terminators with 8 combi-bolters, 1 heavy flamer and power weapons, plus Grenade Harness for sergeant at 322 pts

Total pts = 524

Squad assembled with arms and guns, and base coated.

They won't stay that midnighty color for long. I'm thinking now that the blue base coat is down, I'm considering adding the upper shoulder pads on at this stage and spraying them as well. I dunno, maybe. This figuring out how to do the sub-assemblies for painting iis one of the worst parts of assembly lining a whole squad for me. It's probably what's caused me to delay for so long.

Ahh I just build then worry about the rest later, less stress. Until you can't paint a certain area. Nut that happened later. Always live for later.

I've since learned that painting the model as a whole irks the hell out of me, much more so than painting sub-assemblies. Damned nooks and crannies. dry.png

Exactly this. Do I want the hassle of breaking everything into sub-assemblies, priming, and painting it all in different parts, or do I assemble the entire figure and deal with the stress and screaming cursing fits when it's a total PITA because you can't get everywhere with the brush?

To be perfectly honest it's easier just to split it into three pieces; the torso/legs/head/backpack and the two arm assemblies. Anything else is already covered, and it's easy to drill, spray and then assemble them all once painted. :p

The current batch of models (shown in my update) were second hand (except the Moritat). Seeing as they were already built, taking them apart seemed counter-intuitive regardless of the current round of cussing. The next batch are not second hand - I'll be sub-assembly-ing them.
