Once the Maiden Guard were finished, I started the first infantry squad for the third platoon. I have got quite far but unfortunately the picture is massive so if you are interested... here's where it's at :) :

This has been a fantastic read(and your blog too  ) Apart from the usual fawning over of your Greenstuff skills and such, i really love the way you have made them "Real" even though they're squats and in the 40k universe you have stayed away from the comic like/cartoon vibe and given them a definite gritty realistic Feel and your little back story just backs it up so well   it's been a few years and i'm guessing that as much fun as it's been it also has been a Grind too  . I, like probably the rest of the people watching this plog cannot wait to see this army painted, but i'm old enough and wise enough to sit back and watch the flower bloom in it's own time.

Thank you ever so much for sharing this wonderful adventure your on with us

cheers, Mithril

oh and congrats on the Lad joining up :cool.:  that must've been a very proud moment indeed!.

Cheers :smile.: .

My son made me very proud when he followed in my footsteps and made it into the RAF. There were so many coincidences that it helped to make my leaving so much more 'right'. Now he's having the time of his life :smile.: .

This army has been on the back-burner since 1994... a sad time when, in my stupidity, I threw away my Squats (yes... in the bin... bikes, exos, metal troops... all of them... in the bin) so it was always going to happen. Fortunately, I am a masochist and decided that they would all be plastic and that meant lots of sculpting and conversion (because I really don't like the plastic arms and there are only three varieties of head... most of which would be the helmeted one).

The arm sculpting can be a bit of a chore but it is worth it when I have them finished... and the more I finish the less I have to start.

Speaking of which, here is the third platoon; in it's current condition:

I am working to get them all to the same standard before I start work on the arms. A platoon that is made together, stays together :biggrin.:

Once I have got everything assembled, converted and sculpted, I will be looking back over their gallant history and putting some fluff together to go with them so that they can become the glorious army they deserve to be.

When it eventually comes to painting them, the realism will hopefully shine through :smile.: ... no brightly coloured Squats in my army!

Thanks to everyone who has joined me on this journey so far... you have been helpful travelling companions :smile.:

So... to keep the ball rolling, I have now finished adding beards to the full platoon which means that next, I will be adding weapons and back-packs (as required) :) :

They're looking great! The variation in beardage is also impressive, always an issue with so many similar models :tu: I'm also digging the photo, looks like they're all about to break out into a dance number :D

Dance number :D!

With only one version of the head with helmet available in plastic, I had to make all the beards a bit different, otherwise they would have looked proper boring. I would have loved to have had the option of using more standard heads... but they aren't available :( .

  • 3 weeks later...
I bought some of the new Kharadron Overlords today and thought I'd share a few scale pix. Before I do, I reckon that they are a bit big for this current army but have potential for a future faction... here they are:

I'm not convinced... but it doesn't really matter because I have a set style for my troops and these arms wouldn't suit it so it will be a case of continuing with my sculpted arms for this army.

On a different note.. now I've 'scratched that itch', I can get back on track with a bit of sculpting so I am now 2 finished and one WIP, where Halfling snipers are concerned:

It appears that Photobucket is holding me to ransom. If I don't pay $399.99 a year, all of my photographs will remain as those photobucket place holders.

I will not be held to ransom so I will be looking for an alternative host. In the meantime, I apologise for the fact that all of my images are gone... and are unlikely to reappear.

I had no warning... the hosting update that apparently happened on 28th June has obviously come into effect. I now know why I have been seeing the place holders on so many forums.

Fortunately, the pictures still work if you 'right click and view image in a new tab' on each of the placeholders... so they aren't completely gone.

It doesn't make it any less infuriating though
