The Angel and the Machine - Blood Angels/Skitarii Log

Recommended Posts

++Picture heavy post!++

Hail brothers and sisters! Leviathus here with her Blood Angels and Skitarii WIP log!

I've been playing and painting Warhammer 40k for almost a year now and my first and foremost gaming army are the Blood Angels. I just love they way they look, the close combat battles and of course their fluff!

Unfortunately I haven't come that far though painting wise as a particular Xenos race cries for attention now and then and the Astral Claws are quite demanding as well (will start a plog about them soon-ish). *sigh* live is not easy when you have several projects in the works tongue.png Anyways without further ado let's get on to the pictures.

So let me introduce you to my (painted) Blood Angels:

My count as Donatos Aphael. I'll probably redo this character and make a custom Aphael one day.

The first completed squad. Nevermind their weapon loadout as I were a complete noob back then when I put them together (and I was indifferent then about moldlines and drilled gun barrels... ugh... no comment).

Pretty proud about this guy. I affectionately gave him a name; revered brother Altus. Whom fell to the Black Rage when he failed to open a pickle jar.

A squad of Death Company marines. Man I just love these guys in combat!

Next in the painting queue is Lemartes and a Rhino who's been waiting for ages to be finished (and a lot of other stuff but not gonna list them all. They'll pop up eventually msn-wink.gif).

But this log will not only be about Blood Angels, Skitarii will get some attention as well!

When the Skitarii kits came out, I really wanted to use them as a small allied force for the Blood Angels for much needed shooty support. The colour scheme I'll be going with is the Forge World Metalica one. So lot's of white! Here's a test Ranger painted up to see if the scheme works:

I still need to drybrush some dirt on his legs and cape to tie him more to the base. I'll just be using the Mars like basing for contrast sake. Metallic bases just wouldn't work here.

The coming updates will focus more on the Skitarii since I want to assemble and paint them in one go (with some room for other projects in between). Just to get them out of the way as they will not be an ever continuing army project anyways.

So, thanks for taking a peek and C&C are always welcome.

Cheers!

Gorgeous work with white/red on the Skitarii. The freehand is very mpressive. Was it especially time consuming?

Cheers my friend. Well it depends. Painting the markings on the robe was not really that time consuming (I sketched it out first with a pencil. That went rather quick too) but you could spend ages on cleaning it up and perfecting it though.

Love the Metalica skitarii scheme, very well executed. here is a 3 digit and one thumb thumbsup.gif as all mechanical skitarii hands should be !!

Thanks brother!

You certainly have some good looking models there and it's nice to see that you haven't over done the highlights and battle damage on the Death Company and Death Company Dreadnought respectively.

Are you about to start anything new for your Blood Angels and if so, may I be so bold as to ask if you'd consider pledging it to our ETL cause?

Thanks for the feedback brother!

Welp, I have been thinking about joining ETL and Lemartes and a rhino a dying to await completion. Perhaps I'll join with those two. :)

You're more than welcome. We're certainly interested to see your take on Lemartes. The "new" model is fantastic but I found it really hard to paint due to the amount of detail crammed onto the model...

Ah bugger just read in the ETL rules that only assembled an primed models may enter. Lemartes and the rhino are further than that... Perhaps I'll find something else then now that you've convinced me to join ;)

Cheers BrotherJim! And I will join ETL! I made up my mind and I'll be submitting my 5 man assualt squad and a sanguinary priest!

And no worries the Astral Claws will get their own thread soon! biggrin.png

Cheers mate!

Okay guys small update but I assembled an Ironstrider yesterday. Some parts are really tricky to do, so you have to follow the instructions to the letter.

The weapons and the rider are not glued on yet. For painting purposes but I also want to magnetize the weapons (gonna magnetize the crap out of the Skitarii so I don't have to buy loads of kits tongue.png).

In other news, I've been thinking about converting the heads of the Kastelan Robots. Just like many of you, I find the heads pretty ugly. So, since a want these bugger in my force, I had to come up with a plan.

Forge Wold has some excellent Ad Mech stuff so I dropped by their site for some inspiration. There were some models whom caught my interests:

The Castellax Battle-Automata

The Thanatar Siege-Automata

I really dig those bronze "heads" and to tie the Kastelans more to Forge World's releases, I'll be going for that look. My idea is to keep the heads nice and clean looking. Here's a sketch I made from that idea:

The head's going to be less egg shaped and will receive some bolts and steampunk-ish gubbinz but I still want to keep it simple like the Thanatar (saves me a lot of time too).

So, what do you guys think? Let me know! thumbsup.gif

Agreed! "shouldn't" be tooo Hard :P.  i don't have the model so not sure what parts are separate but you might be able to fill in the visor with Green Stuff and add the other parts to the top?

The head is seperate forunately. And you're reading my mind friend! :D I'll indeed fill the visor with green stuff and will do the bolts and other gubbinz with either plasticard or green stuff. The vents, methinks, need to be carved out with a plastic cutter or knive of some sorts.

ETL update!

I made the vow and will be participating in the Blood Angels part of the ETL! biggrin.png

Here are the guys who'll be painting for the comp:

I was allowed to enter with these guys although they are a bit further that the standard. They've been laying around for ages and ETL was the perfect opportunity to finally finish them.

And the sanguinary priest. Yes, raise the cup priest, you'll get painted!

Stay tuned for ETL progress in the near future! I've also bought the Kastelan Robots kit btw. Hopefully I'll get around to start converting their heads this weekend biggrin.png
