Modeling death cult assassins

Recommended Posts

I'm looking to make a melee retinue and thought a group of 10-ish death cult assassins, a priest and psyker might be interesting. The downside is that the current models went to resin and I'm not a fan. I was thinking of using the new plastic witch elf kit from the fantasy line with the sisters of slaughter heads (maybe file off the pointy ears). It winds up being about $20 cheaper which is a plus. Any thoughts?

What do you guys use?

I personally don't like the whole BDSM vibe of the standard Death Cult Assassins, plus I wanted assassins who would fit better with my army theme which includes a contingent of Death Korps troops seconded to my inquisitor's command. So I painted some DKoK engineers up black and gave them power swords.

If you want something similar to the BDSM assassins, I think that witch elves are the way to go. Check out the most recent forum painting competition for some examples of how they can look.

I put together a box of fantasy witch elves and a box of dark eldar wyches to use as death cult assassins.

For the fantasy witches, they are all perched on stones w elf looking runes, I filed the runes off.

For the wyches, the sprue has some melee weapons but not enough for every model.  I'm using leftover dark elf witch daggers, cutting off the hand at the wrist.  Then I use the dark eldar pistol arms, cut off the hand and replace with the fantasy dagger hand.  I've run out of daggers, need to order some bits.

None of my assassins are painted yet, still assembling.

I forgot about the dark eldar wyches. Hmm. Half the price too. My only concern is that they will just look like DE. The fantasy ones will at least look... different, I guess. I'll think on it. Thanks.

My friend was giving me a hard time about the DE models.

I will probably paint mine up in an inquistion looking color scheme of some sort.

Fluff wise, isn't there an Inquisition faction that uses xenos?  I can't remember off the top of my head and don't have the codex in front of me.

I have some DE wytch conversions. You need to clean up the curves and bladed armor bits for a start and also add some Imperium looking weapons. The hardest part of the project was converting the pistol arms to holding power swords. The DE models are slender and delicate looking while space marine power swords are huge in comparison. All in all I am not happy with how they turned out. The weapon issue is the deal breaker for me.

You could keep the dark elves swords, add a powercable and the "i" (the line from the sword guard to the middle of the blade) in greenstuff for instance.

If you can get your hand on Sicarian powersword, they seem less bulky :

Or you can do them with plastic card :

I've recently kitbashed some Daemonettes using a box of Daemonettes and a box of Dark Elf Witches/Sisters of Slaughter.

I can't praise the Sisters kit enough. Extremely dynamic poses and nice weapons (of which you'll end up with a lot spare).

I liked them so much I bought a second box so I can kitbash 20 more...

I've heard of people doing Harlequins with them, and DCA would be excellent too (as KRG's post illustrates).

A box of Empire flagellants and left over Falchions from my Grey Knights.

I like it! Flagellants kit is so useful.

Yep, got myself 4 DCA and a Priest out of that box and some bits I had left over from my GK.

Looking at modelling the man in the stocks into a daemonhost but cutting him and another model at the legs and increasing his height.

And maybe even another DCA or two msn-wink.gif

Well thanks.  This gives me lots of ideas.  I'm thinking witches with ruststalker arms will be my next angle.  I was also looking at some of the new sigmar pieces are crusaders but I'm afraid theyre a bit large.

The Ordo Xenos. ;)

They are also the Home of Deathwatch.

A thing of beauty right there, I struggle with fine detail GS'ing however...

That and I would need 6/8 of them.

Just remember when you do your assassins the ordo would dictate how they look.

Malleus would look very down to the line drilled and same looking where as Hereticus would be more church influenced and Xenos more xenos influence and mechanical/ steampunk due to them willing to use anything.
