Kaiser Senpai Posted May 27, 2015 Share Posted May 27, 2015 Okay I was planning on waiting to do my armored army until after I had a sizable amount of my troops army (Cadian 726th), buuuuuuuuuuuuuuut the ETL is a thing and a lot of troops are worth less than, and take more time than a couple of tanks. SO I decided to go ahead and get started on these guys... Girls They're all girls. (FYI I hope I'm not stepping on any toes using Orax; it doesn't look like it's referred to much and I wanted a planet fairly close to Cadia). The fluff being that humans (males especially) on Orax evolved to be noticeably larger over the millenia. When the planet was brought into the fold of the imperium, the male populace made good stock for imperial soldiers, but could not fit into the armored tanks that were built en masse off world. In their dire need to field armored divisions for the imperial tithe, the Oraxian government recruited women from the populace to fight for the Imperium. Now several millenia later, the armored divisions of Orax are known to possess some of the toughest and brightest tank veterans in all of the Imperium. The 7th division is referred to the 'Matrons of Steel' and are some of the more reckless tank fighters in all of the Oraxian military. I'll be using the Victorian miniatures Arcadian Rifle squads for my female troops (the ones I will occasionally field.) I'm looking for fill-ins for other AM units, although a good portion can be proxied from Raging Heroes (at least I think they will work). I'm going to go with a dark metal and red in a tiger stripe camouflage pattern (if I can pull it off). I'm not sure whether I'll paint the guns differently to make them stand out or not. Everything has been made interchangeable so I figured I would use the maximum points available for the two kits as my ETL vow. The Pic is what I used to make the vow. Kaiser Senpai Posted May 29, 2015 Author Share Posted May 29, 2015 Okay! Attempted and finished the camo on the battle tank (excluding the sponsons). It's a bit on the shiny side, but I think some grime effects and a matte varnish will tone it down. I'm not entirely sure yet how to paint hte guns and exhaust pipes yet. Suggestions? The right side is a bit wonky. I can fix some of it with touch-up but I neet to be more aware of the stencils moving after I apply them. The tank was given a basecoat of Khorne Red. Stripes were then cut out of painting take and applied somewhat randomly. Long strips were placed first and then shorter and shorter ones were made to fill in gaps. The tank was then gone over again with a 3:1 mix of Leadbelcher and Abbadon Black. Strips were removed and the pictures were taken. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Well done on the stripes they're both uniform and not which can be hard to pull off :) Â For the gun, Leadbelcher is usually solid but you might already have enough of that. Perhaps a different metallic? Exhausts can be a nice bronze maybe? Or maybe go for something a little different and paint them a dark gray/black? To make details pop out you could use rust effects.you should also consider weathering powders. They are a lot of fun,offer a new challenge to master and look totally ace! Kaiser Senpai Posted May 31, 2015 Author Share Posted May 31, 2015 Update: Okiedoke. I went over the whole thing with Nuln Oil for a nice, dirty/grimy look. Took a lot of the sheen off of the Leadbelcher parts (still picked up a bit with the camera flash). I did the exhaust parts, grate and vent covers, and gun parts in bronze.I'm not sure if I want to wash those as well or leave them shiny (the plasma cannons need another coat and detail work). The black portions of the exhaust and guns are also up for debate, as I'm not sure what, or if, I want to paint them. I guess I could also paint the interior of the sponson. I got my tracks on as well. Went over with them with rust and corrosion effect. They're basically done, but I might try another dark wash on to. The only thing I'd do is was the tracks either with another wash of black or a brown wash. They look like a solid part of the hull rather than a moving part of the model at the moment. The battle tank now just needs the weathering pigments I have yet to get in, and some lighting color on the spotlight. Most of the work has been on the tank commander, however. The tank as been base painted, striped, and washed. The bronze parts have also been painted but needs washing. I still need to do the treads, black parts, plasma cannons, lascannon, armor on the gun barrel, commander, spotlight, lettering, and then the weathering pigments. I base my exhausts with bolt gun, then wash with typhus corrosion, follow this with drybrush of ryza rust then chainmail. It gives a oily rusted look like this.
