The Apostles of Quetza : ETL V Update

Recommended Posts

“My dear Presidente, it seems that the traitors are trying to outflank us.” Penultimo whined as only Penultimo could.

Curling the corner of his well pampered  moustache , El Presidente , known as El Chupacabra to his friends and enemies alike, glanced sideways at his aide.  “You worry too much, Penultimo.” He said calmly in his thick accent. “I have a leetle surprise waiting for out traitorous friends.” His R’s rolled smoothly in a way that almost calmed his ever gittery aide.

On the worried flank a lone figure burst out of the tree line in mottled camouflage with a bright red beret, a smoking satchel in his hands. “Viva TROPICO!” he screamed as the platoon of traitors looked on incredulously, their Leman Russ coming to a hault.  For some reason no one fired until he was almost to the tank, which careened sideways in a terrific explosion.  Lasgun fire erupted from the trees and more red berets put the cultists in flight.

“You are truly a master of strategy and tactics, Presidente.” Penultimo  flattered away.

El Chupacabra grimaced as he pulled out a cigar from his jacket. Penultimo  tripped over himself to proffer a lighter.  As he puffed, he looked on as the  Red Berets chased the cultist from the field. “Yes, it probably would have been better if he had  THROWN that demo charge, but…. One less mouth to feed.”  He shared a chuckle with his sycophant.

VIVA TROPICO!  The loyal forces of the Tropico Archepeligo have come to Warzone: Crixus to aid in the fight against the combined might of the Templars of DOOoom and their Ork allies. Considering their combat record.... not everyone is thrilled, btu when you need reinforcements... you need reinforcements.  They are accompanied by the enigmatic Apostles of Quetza Space Marines.  Surely, the tactical accumen of the legendary El Chupacabra combined with the might of a Space Marine company can save the day!  Well... maybe.

Yeah, I'm a fan (a bit obsessed really) with the pc game Tropico. And after a careful inventory of my unbuilt models and such, I realized I have way too damned many miniatures..er, I mean... enough to do a Loyalist army. And it gives me an excuse to buy more minis... which I need.... like an inch wide whole in the side of my head.

SO.... here's the plan.  A smallish Astra Milit.... er, Imperial Guard army with space marine allies and maybe some Ad Mech too.  Because.... just because. Like all of my armies, it will be tongue-in-cheek, because its more fun that way.

Of course, we must start with El Presidente himself... El Chupacabra.   Here's what I have so far....

Basically a Company Commander, but can double as Creed if I'm feeling sporty.  I'm working on the command squad, but more on that next time.

Now, on to the Apostles of Quetza. Think space marines meet pre-columbian Central America.  I fiddled around with them a while ago, thinking of using the Dark Angels codex and such, then they found there way in a box.  With a fresh set of eyes, I'm back in love with the idea. Here are the models I have going...

Terminators in process of being converted to big nasty jaguar warriors...

This guy is in a varied state of disrepair, but the cloak of feathers is still intact.  Along with a Librarian, he will be leading the Apostles allied force from time to time.

And the Librarian...

That's all for now.

Awesome theme! I can't wait to see what you come up with next. The heretic in me demands ritual sacrifices and heart eating.

As for the Apostles, they are definitely loyal...er, at least their army list is. Few things are as they seem with my armies. :)

and cannibalism is perfectly loyalist so long as no chaos-god gets invoked.

.Cough. sons of malice  for one .cough.

The feathers are sculpted. Its tedious, but fairly easy with the right tool. You start at the bottom and work your way up. Pull an oblong slip of greenstuff with the tool and add the feather veins. Over and over again.  I've actually changed his back banner/headdress thing.. but he still looks cool.  I DO.... however, have to get the new Speeesh Marines Codex to see if there are any new.cool things to put in the army.  Plus, I'll have to see how my dusty, old Raptors army is working these days.

I've sorted through my guardsmen and got a rough idea of how many I have available. I'm hoping to keep new purchases to a minimum, but we all know how that goes.  I know there will be a mail order from Poland in my future, but not until August at least. SO... I could be painting headless guardsmen for a bit.  I do have enough heads for a veteran squad of Tropico's elite communist Red Berets.  I blocked in the basic undercolors for the uniform pattern on this guy and plan on a version of the WW2 USMC leaf/spot pattern.

My dad brought back a shirt and pants from the war. I used to squirrel hunt in it as a teenager.  It kills me that I lost it during one of my many mooves after college. Planning on picking up the new Speeeeesh Marines! Codex tomorrow and we'll see where the Apostles go from there.

A quick update.  In the mysterious, eldrich Realm of Unfinished Miniatures, A Sergeant of the Apostles of Quetza is confronted by an abomination of Nurgle. Luckily, it has no head, but lots of tenticles.  He might be lacking a sword blade, but that Plasma pistol could come in handy at any moment....

All sorts of update goodness here.  We'll start with the Tropican Army.  Here's the test model for the Red Berets, plus the standard infantry uniform. Sure, the camoflage looks like a nightmare, but its actually a fairly quick process for me. And the end result looks good.  Still some details, liek unit badges and that to do, but he's close to done.

El Presidente is also underway. In the process of blocking in colors and doing his camo, I realized he needed a thumb... and sunglasses.  Still a ways to go, but he's looking pretty good.

On to the Apostles of Quetza. The Sergeant for the Tactical Squad is built and waiting paint, complete with chain "Macuahuitl".

I also blocked in some undercoats on the Chaplain.

And the Librarian, though he is still missing an arm...........

This looks cool & has me hooked, the camo looks ace on the tropico's

I think El Presidente's sunglasses need to look a little mre like aviator shades than wrap-arund Oakleys though....

Yeah, I noticed that too. When I took the photos the green stuff was still curing, but a little work with an Exacto knife will get those aviator looking good.

I started sculpting on the Jade Skull for the Sergeant. The image on the right is what I'll be shooting for in an end result.
